Delphos St. John’s defeated higher-seeded Leipsic 56-44 on the Vikings’ home court on Wednesday night in a the Division IV boys basketball sectional opener for both teams.
St. John’s raised its record to 7-15 with the win. Leipsic ended its season with a 15-9 record.
Landen Grothaus led St. John’s with 20 points. Mathew Kahny had 16 points and 9 rebounds and Landon Elwer scored 12 points.
Mason Brandt led Leipsic with 14 points and Paul Maag had 10 points.
Bluffton 41, Tinora 38
Kyler Kinn and Nic Essinger scored 11 points each when Bluffton opened the postseason with a 41-38 win over Tinora on Wednesday night.
The Pirates will play at Ottawa-Glandorf on Friday night.
Hardin Northern 67, Gibsonburg 51
Hardin Northern improved to 14-8 with its first-round win over Gibsonburg, led by Zeb Wilson with 19 points, Owen Wetherill with 17 points and Nevan Robson with 14 points.
New Bremen 64, Ada 46
Reece Busse and David Homan both scored 12 points to lead New Bremen (15-8) to a sectional win over Ada.
Micah Cook’s 14 points led Ada (3-19). Cayden Murphy scored 11 points and Jake Poling had 10 points for the Bulldogs.
Coldwater 40, Paulding 38
Myles Blasingame scored 15 points and Tyler Schwieterman pulled down 8 rebounds for the Cavaliers, who advance to a Friday night home game against Fairview.
