Roundup: Ottoville’s Knippen secures 1,000 career points in girls hoops victory

OTTOVILLE – Ottoville’s Nicole Knippen scored 18 points, including her 1000th career point, in a 49-27 girls basketball Division IV sectional championship win over Stryker Saturday at Ottoville.

Ottoville (16-8) advances to the district semifinals against Wayne Trace at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Defiance High School.

Knippen cleared the 1,000-point plateau on a 3-pointer in the second quarter.

The Big Green’s Elise Kramer also scored 18 points.

Ottoville led 15-7 after the first quarter and 27-15 at the half.

Sectional finals

Division I

WAPAKONETA – Wapakoneta pulled away from Mansfield Madison 54-30 to win the sectional championship at Wapakoneta.

Wapakoneta (8-14) advances to the district semifinals against Toledo Notre Dame at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Millbury Lake.

Wapak’s Casey Minnig scored 12.

Division II

Napoleon 49, Elida 31

NAPOLEON – Napoleon knocked off Elida in the sectional finals at Napoleon.

Napoleon (20-1) advances to the district semifinals against Toledo Central Catholic at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Paulding.

Elida is 8-11.

Toledo Central Catholic 60, Shawnee 48 (OT)

TOLEDO – Toledo Central Catholic needed overtime to knock off Shawnee in the sectional finals at Toledo.

Toledo Central Catholic advances to the district semifinals against Napoleon at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Paulding.

Grace Freiberger paced Shawnee with 22 points and five steals. Zoe Best had 11 points and seven rebounds. Kelly Cooper had six points and eight rebounds.

Bryan 48, St. Marys 36

BRYAN – Bryan captured the sectional title with a win over St. Marys at Bryan.

Bryan (17-3) advances to the district semifinals against Bath at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Paulding.

Bryan led 22-15 at the half and 33-22 after three.

St. Marys is 17-6.

Bath 67, Toledo Rogers 36

BATH TOWNSHIP – Bath had little trouble dumping Toledo Rogers for the sectional title at Bath.

Bath (22-2) advances to the district semifinals against Bryan at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Paulding.

Bath’s Ruby Bolon had 18 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists, just missing a triple-double by one assist.

Chandler Clark had 13 points and four steals. Esther Bolon had 11 points and seven rebounds. Lexi Renner had 11 points and three steals.

Bath led 58-34 after three quarters.

Division III

Ottawa-Glandorf 52, Coldwater 22

OTTAWA – Ottawa-Glandorf steamrolled Coldwater for the sectional title at Hermiller Gymnasium.

O-G (21-2) advances to the district semifinals against Liberty-Benton at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Elida.

Coldwater is 9-12.

Liberty-Benton 58, Spencerville 30

BENTON RIDGE – Liberty-Benton knocked off Spencerville for the sectional title at L-B.

L-B (18-4) advances to the district semifinals against Ottawa-Glandorf at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Elida.

Spencerville is 14-10.

Lauren Gerken led L-B with 33 points.

Gillian Goecke scored 11 for the Bearcats.

Division IV

Minster 58, Lima Central Catholic 17

MINSTER – Top-seeded Minster had little difficulty with Lima Central Catholic to win the sectional title at Minster.

Minster (22-1) advances to the district semifinals against Fort Recovery at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Wapakoneta.

LCC is 8-15.

Ivy Wolf led Minster with 16 points. Janae Hoying scored 14.

Fort Recovery 53, New Bremen 50 (OT)

FORT RECOVERY – Fort Recovery went overtime to knock off New Bremen for the sectional title at Fort Recovery.

Fort Recovery (16-6) advances to the district semifinals against Minster at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Wapakoneta.

Kierra Wendel led the Indians with 15 points.

Madison Cordonnier scored 17 for New Bremen.

Marion Local 57, Parkway 41

MARIA STEIN – Marion Local notched a sectional title with a win over Parkway at Marion Local.

Marion Local (19-5) advances to the district semifinals against New Knoxville at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Wapakoneta.

Parkway is 9-13.

New Knoxville 68, Upper Scioto Valley 16

NEW KNOXVILLE – New Knoxville ran past Upper Scioto Valley for the sectional championship at New Knoxville.

New Knoxville (20-4) advances to the district semifinals against Marion Local at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Wapakoneta.

Morgan Leffel led the Rangers with 14 points. Ellie Gable scored 13. Haley Fledderjohann scored nine.

Allison Moore scored 10 for the Rams.

The Rangers went out to a 19-0 first-quarter lead and were never challenged after that. They led 45-3 at the half.

Columbus Grove 44, Holgate 31

COLUMBUS GROVE – Columbus Grove knocked off Holgate for the sectional title at Columbus Grove.

Columbus Grove (16-7) advances to the district semifinals against Miller City at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Van Wert.

Erin Downing paced the Bulldogs with 15 points. Kenzie King had 10 points and five assists. Shay Schroeder scored eight.

Holgate is 8-15.

Miller City 60, Leipsic 45

MILLER CITY – Miller City won the sectional title with a victory over Leipsic at Miller City.

Miller City (15-8) advances to the district semifinals against Columbus Grove at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Van Wert.

Natalie Koenig paced Miller City with 22 points Grace Pfau scored 10.

Whitney Langhals scored 11 for Leipsic. Ava Henry scored 10.

Leipsic is 13-11.

Kalida 53, Continental 30

KALIDA – Kalida rolled past Continental for the sectional title at Kalida.

Kalida (16-6) advances to the district semifinals against Cory-Rawson at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Van Wert.

Brooke Vennekotter led Kalida with 20 points and eight rebounds. She hit 5 of 10 on 3-pointers.

Brenna Smith scored 10. Grace Klausing had eight points and six rebounds.

Maddie Burke scored eight for the Pirates.

Cory-Rawson 40, McComb 37

MCCOMB – Cory-Rawson knocked off McComb to win the sectional championship at McComb.

Cory-Rawson (17-6) moves on to the district semifinals against Kalida at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Van Wert.

Crestview 60, Stryker 32

CONVOY – Crestview ran past Stryker for the sectional title at Crestview.

Crestview (17-6) advances to the district semifinals against North Central at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Defiance High School.

Wayne Trace 41, Lincolnview 25

HAVILAND – Wayne Trace won its sectional final against Lincolnview at Wayne Trace.

Wayne Trace (16-6) advances to the district semifinals against Ottoville at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Defiance High School.

Kendall Bollenbacher had nine points and six rebounds for the Lancers. Makalya Jackman scored eight.

Katrina Stoller scored 15 points and had seven rebounds for the Raiders. Rachel Stoller had 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Wayne Trace dominated the boards, 42-20.

Boys basketball

Defiance 53, Lima Central Catholic 50

LIMA – Defiance finished the regular season with a non-league win over Lima Central Catholic at Fr. Herr Gymnasium.

LCC is 12-10. Defiance is 14-8.

Temple Christian 43, Ada 42

ADA – Temple Christian closed out the regular season with a non-league win over Ada.

Temple is 3-18. Ada is 3-18.

Landon Callahan and Preston Patrick both scored 13 for the Pioneers.

Cayden Murphy paced Ada with 16 points. Jake Poling scored 11.

Antwerp 49, Perry 41

ANTWERP – Antwerp, ranked No. 2 in the state, knocked off Perry in a non-league game at Antwerp.

Perry is 17-4. Antwerp is 20-1.

Jagger Landers paced Antwerp with 26 points.

Terry Riley scored 13 for Perry. Bubby Knight scored 10.

Antwerp led 32-21 at the half and 47-33 after three.

Van Wert 44, Parkway 39

VAN WERT – Van Wert knocked off Parkway in a non-league game at Van Wert.

Van Wert is 11-10. Parkway is 10-12.

The Cougars’ Aidan Pratt had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Owen Treece scored 12.

Dylan Hughes led Parkway with 13 points.

Cory-Rawson 44, Waynesfield-Goshen 31

WAYNESFIELD – Cory-Rawson knocked off Waynesfield-Goshen in a non-league game at Waynesfield.

Cory-Rawson is 11-8. Waynesfield is 3-17.

Grant Bacon led the Hornets with 17 points. Lane Kisseberth scored 10.

Shenandoah 62, Ridgemont 50

MOUNT VICTORY – Shenandoah knocked off Ridgemont in a non-league game at Ridgemont.

Ridgemont is 13-9.

Allen East 56, Upper Scioto Valley 54

HARROD – Allen East edged Upper Scioto Valley in a non-league game at Allen East.

Allen East is 10-12. USV is 12-10.

Connor Sanders led USV with 20 points Drew Stephens scored 14. Jackson Rohrs had 13.

Garrett Newland scored 22 for Allen East. Gabe Criblez had 17.

Boys bowling

Division I sectional

WAPAKONETA – Wapakoneta, Celina, St. Marys and Springfield advanced to the district at the Division I boys bowling sectional at Astro Lanes.

The top four teams and top four individuals qualified for the district tournament at 5 p.m. Friday at Port Clinton.

Maumee’s Gabe Burton (567), Anthony Wayne’s Austin Bellmore (543), Defiance’s Boston Briseno (529) and Shawnee’s Solomon Smith (523) were the individual qualifiers for the district.

Wapakoneta won the district with 3,894. Celina was second with 3,816. St. Marys was third with 3,602. Springfield was fourth with 3,399.

Defiance was fifth (3,339). Elida was sixth (3,247), while Shawnee was seventh (3,210). Lima Senior was eighth (3,165).

There were 10 teams in the tournament.

Celina’s Britton Hole won the individual sectional champion with a 631 (191-213-227).

Wapak’s Jon Hefner was second with a 585 (171-202-212). Wapak’s Caige Schnarre finished third with a 574. Wapak’s Tanner Haggard was fourth with 571.

Besides Hole’s champion performance, Celina had Kobe Piper with a 567 and Isaac Garrett with a 546. Alex Lehman had a 508.

St. Marys was led by Jonathan Perez-Shinaberry, who rolled a 560. St. Marys’ Cayden Ballweg had a 533. Richard Hurley had a 525. Carter Monbeck had a 521.

For Shawnee, after qualifier Smith, Myles Aldrich rolled a 519. Cruz Hunter had a 467. Isaiah Johns had a 454.

Elida’s Landen Crates rolled a 514. Elida’s Cory Patrick had a 493. Matt Adcock had a 460.

Lima Senior’s Anthony Lutz rolled a 508. Reece Waithe had a 465.

Girls swimming

Division I district

BOWLING GREEN – Toledo St. Ursula’s Molly Dynda won the 50 free in 23.51, while Lima Senior’s Grace Beck was seventh at the Division I district swimming and diving championships at Bowling Green State.

Also in the 50 free, Wapakoneta’s Addisyn Newman was 18th.

The top two swimmers in each event automatically qualify from the state. The rest of the field will be the best of times from all the districts around the state.

Toledo St. Ursula won the district with 340 points. Wapakoneta was 20th with 26. Lima Senior was 26th with 12.

St. Ursula’s Dynda also won the 100 free in 51.86. Lima Senior’s Beck was 17th.

Toledo Notre Dame’s Kaylee Szymanski won the 200 free in 1:51.96. Wapak’s Elizabeth Gesler was 20th in 2:04.52.

Notre Dame’s Szymanski also won the 500 free in 4:59.76.

Anthony Wayne’s Maddie Blakely won the 100 back in 57.01.

Toledo St. Ursula’s Mia Cheatwood won the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.84.

Toledo St. Ursula’s Corinne Staneart won the 100 fly in 57.35.

Strongsville’s Jordyn Homoki won the 200 I.M. in 2:07.98.

Toledo St. Ursula won the 200 free relay in 1:37.16. Wapakoneta was eighth. Lima Senior was 19th.

Toledo St. Ursula won the 400 free relay in 3:32.10. Wapakoneta was 15th.

Toledo St. Ursula won the 200 medley relay in 1:46.55. Wapakoneta was 20th.

Boys swimming

Division I district

BOWLING GREEN – Lima Senior finished 23rd in the 200 free relay at the Division I district swimming and diving championships at Bowling Green State.

The top two swimmers in each event automatically qualify from the state. The rest of the field will be the best of times from all the districts around the state.

Women’s basketball

Transylvania 75, Bluffton 57

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Transylvania knocked off Bluffton at Transylvania.

Bluffton is 14-5. Transylvania is 11-6.

Bluffton’s Brianna Gillig led Bluffton with 15 points. Emma Saltzman scored 12. Gillig and Saltzman both had seven rebounds.

Gillig now has 499 rebounds for her career.

Bluffton shot 31 percent from the field and 8 of 34 on 3-pointers.

Transylvania won the boards, 42-29.

Women’s lacrosse

John Carroll 24, Ohio Northern 8

ADA – Ohio Northern opened its season with a loss to John Carroll on a freezing afternoon at Ohio Northern.

ONU freshman Sydney Kilgore had a three-goal hat trick in her first collegiate game.

John Carroll is 1-0.

Kilgore also had two assists to give her five points.

John Carroll outshot ONU, 50-16.

Women’s volleyball

Bluffton 3, Rose-Hulman 0

BLUFFTON – Bluffton swept Rose-Hulman at the Sommer Center. Bluffton won the match, 18-16, 26-24, 25-17.

The victory assures Bluffton a berth in the four-team Heartland Conference tournament, which starts Friday.

Bluffton is 15-7, 6-3 in the Heartland.

Bluffton’s Remi Bower had 18 kills. Noel Ufferman had 21 assists. Elle Price had 15 assists.

Men’s basketball

Transylvania 58, Bluffton 49

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Transylvania held off Bluffton for a win over the Beavers at Lexington.

Transy led 28-17 at the half.

Dezman Brown led Bluffton with 22 points and hit 6 of 11 on 3-pointers.

Transy won the boards, 36-38.

Bluffton hit 33 percent from the field.
