Perry goes unbeaten in NWCC play; Miller City’s Koenig atop points list

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Shawnee clinched at least a share of the Western Buckeye League boys basketball title with a 68-29 victory over Elida Friday at Shawnee.

Shawnee is 18-1, 8-0 in the WBL. Elida is 3-15, 1-7.

George Mangas led the Indians with 20 points. He was 11 of 15 at the foul line.

Shawnee’s Tyson Elwer had 11 points, six rebounds and three blocks. Caden Vermillion had 11 rebounds. Austin Miller scored eight.

Shawnee can wrap up the outright title with a win over Bath next Friday.

Tyler Long led Elida with 12 points.

Shawnee led 37-10 at the half.

Perry 81, Temple Christian 21

LIMA – Perry ran past Temple Christian and finished the Northwest Central Conference unbeaten and champions at Temple Christian.

Perry, which had already clinched the NWCC title outright, finishes its NWCC schedule 8-0. Perry is 16-3 overall.

Will Knight paced the Commodores with 17 points.

Jefferey Simpson scored 16. Terry Riley had 15 and Bubby Knight scored 13. Ryan Yingst had eight.

Preston Patrick paced Temple with 15 points.

Perry led 39-11 at the half.

Temple is 2-18, 1-7.

Minster 60, Coldwater 53

COLDWATER – Minster won the Midwest Athletic Conference outright with a win over Coldwater at Coldwater.

It marks Minster’s first outright boys basketball MAC championship.

Minster ended its MAC season 9-0 and is 17-4 overall. Coldwater is 10-10, 3-5.

Bryan Falk led Minster with 16 points. He was 5 of 9 on 3-pointers.

Minster’s Justin Nixon had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Brady Hoelscher scored nine and was 3 of 3 on 3-pointers.

Tyler Schweiterman paced Coldwater with 13 points. Jesse Meyer scored 11.

The Cavs’ Ethan Post had nine points and nine rebounds. Carson Muhlenkamp scored eight.

Coldwater led 23-22 at the half.

Columbus Grove 72, Allen East 25

COLUMBUS GROVE – Columbus Grove clinched at least a share of the Northwest Conference title with a victory over Allen East at Columbus Grove.

Grove is 16-2, 7-0 in the NWC. Allen East is 9-11, 2-6. Crestview is one game behind Grove at 6-1.

Grove can win the title outright with a win over Ada next Friday.

Columbus Grove led 40-17 at the half.

Ottawa-Glandorf 73, Kenton 48

KENTON – Ottawa-Glandorf stayed one game behind Western Buckeye League-leader Shawnee with a victory over Kenton at Kenton.

O-G is 14-3, 6-1 in the WBL. Kenton is 0-14, 0-6.

The Titans led 35-18 at the half.

Kenton’s Jayden Cornell joined the 1,000-point club during the game with a free throw. Cornell finished with 14 points.

O-G was led by Eli Schmenk’s 16 points.

Delphos Jefferson 66, Spencerville 62 (OT)

SPENCERVILLE – The Wildcats got the win after the Bearcats outscored Jefferson 23-15 in the fourth quarter.

Ian Wannemacher had 26 points and Colin Bailey score 20 for the Wildcats. Josh Henline (18), Keegan Goecke (15), Dalton Prichard (13) and Dylan Smith (11) each scored in double digits for Spencerville.

Jefferson is 6-12, 4-3 in the NWC. Spencerville is 7-13, 3-4.

Jefferson led 21-11 after the first quarter.

Crestview 48, Paulding 43

PAULDING – Crestview notched a Northwest Conference win over Paulding at Paulding.

Crestview is 16-5, 6-1 in the NWC. Paulding is 6-10, 2-4.

Crestview led 34-33 after three.

Lincolnview 67, Ada 34

LINCOLNVIEW – Lincolnview posted a Northwest Conference win over Ada at Lincolnview.

Lincolnview is 14-5, 5-2 in the NWC. Ada is 3-15, 1-5.

Jake Bowersock and Creed Jessee led the Lancers with 13 points each. Jessee had six rebounds.

Collin Overholt had six points, six rebounds and four assists.

Tristan Conley scored 14 for Ada.

Van Wert 81, Bath 55

VAN WERT – Van Wert’s Owen Treece scored 34 points and the Cougars pulled away from Bath in a Western Buckeye League game at Van Wert.

Treece canned six 3-pointers and scored 18 points in the second half.

Aidan Pratt added 14 points for the Cougars.

Carter Parlapiano led Bath with 21 points. Jonah Wauben and Brayden Fleharty scored nine.

Van Wert is 8-10, 3-4 in the WBL. Bath is 10-11, 3-5.

Van Wert led 41-29 at the half and 63-42 after three.

Celina 48, St. Marys 45 (OT)

CELINA – Celina went overtime to knock off St. Marys at Celina.

Celina is 5-13, 3-5 in the Western Buckeye League. St. Marys is 13-5, 4-3.

Celina led 20-17 at the half.

Defiance 46, Wapakoneta 39

DEFIANCE – Defiance came back from being down 14 in the first half to knock off Wapakoneta at Defiance.

Defiance is 13-7, 6-2 in the Western Buckeye League. Wapak is 11-8, 3-4 in the WBL.

Garrett Siefring paced Wapak with 15 points. Zach Rogers scored 10.

New Bremen 68, New Knoxville 28

NEW KNOXVILLE – New Bremen went out to a big lead and coasted home to a Midwest Athletic Conference victory over New Knoxville at New Knoxville.

New Bremen is 13-7, 6-2 in the MAC. New Knoxville is 5-14, 1-7.

New Bremen ran out to a 26-2 lead after the first quarter.

St. Henry 73, Delphos St. John’s 63

ST. HENRY – St. Henry had five players score in double figures in a Midwest Athletic Conference win over Delphos St. John’s at St. Henry.

St. Henry was led by Jaden Lange, who had 18 points, three rebounds and four assists. Bennett Gels scored 16 points with five rebounds and three assists.

Carter Ontrop scored 14 with four rebounds. Casey Bruening had 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Logan Lefeld scored 10.

Landen Grothaus led the Blue Jays with 17 points. Jason Gillespie had 14 points and five assists. Landon Elwer scored 11.

St. John’s Matthew Kahny had nine points and eight rebounds.

St. Henry is 14-7, 7-1 in the MAC and one game behind champion Minster. St. John’s is 6-14, 0-8.

St. Henry won the boards, 28-19.

St. John’s led 39-31 at the half and 58-50 after three. St. Henry outscored St. John’s 23-5 in the final quarter for the victory.

Versailles 66, Fort Recovery 58

VERSAILLES – Versailles knocked off Fort Recovery in a Midwest Athletic Conference game at Versailles.

Fort Recovery is 10-10, 4-4 in the MAC. Versailles is 7-15, 2-7.

Marion Local 49, Parkway 34

MARIA STEIN – Marion Local posted a Midwest Athletic Conference win over Parkway at Marion Local.

Marion Local is 11-9, 5-3 in the MAC. Parkway is 9-10, 3-5.

Alex Eyink led the Flyers with 14 points. Dylan Hughes scored 15 for Parkway.

Cory-Rawson 55, Vanlue 53

RAWSON – Cory-Rawson edged Vanlue in a Blanchard Valley Conference game at Cory-Rawson.

Grant Bacon led the Hornets with 23 points. Leo Miracle scored 11.

Cory-Rawson is 10-6, 7-2 in the BVC. Vanlue is 7-9, 4-5.

Vanlue led 27-25 at the half.

Pandora-Gilboa 57, McComb 42

MCCOMB – Pandora-Gilboa picked up a win in the Blanchard Valley Conference with a win over McComb at McComb.

P-G is 9-10, 7-2 in the BVC. McComb is 6-15, 3-6.

Arlington 69, Leipsic 62

LEIPSIC – Arlington posted a Blanchard Valley Conference win over Leipsic at Leipsic.

Leipsic is 11-7, 6-2 in the BVC. Leipsic is 13-6, 6-3 in the BVC.

Mason Brandt led the Vikings with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Lorenzo Walther had 12 points and five rebounds.

Bryce Gast scored 26 for Arlington. Brandon Hull had 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Arlington won the boards, 36-30.

Leipsic led 31-26 at the half.

Upper Scioto Valley 46, Riverdale 40

MCGUFFEY – Upper Scioto Valley knocked off Riverdale in a non-league game at USV.

USV is 11-8.

Connor Sanders led the Rams with 17 points. Jackson Rohrs scored 10.

Kalida 52, Continental 29

CONTINENTAL – Kalida won a Putnam County League game over Continental at Continental.

Kalida is 16-4, 5-2 in the PCL. Continental is 6-13, 1-5.

Tyson Siefker led Kalida with 15 points. Brandon MiIller scored 13.

Hardin Northern 60, Riverside 51

RIVERSIDE – Hardin Northern knocked off Riverside in a Northwest Central Conference game at Riverside.

Hardin Northern is 12-9, 5-3 in the NWCC. Riverside is 7-14, 3-5.

Nevin Robson led Hardin Northern with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Girls basketball

Miller City 67, Fort Jennings 41

MILLER CITY – Miller City’s Natalie Koenig broke the girls basketball career-scoring record with a 31-point night as the Wildcats posted a Putnam County League win over Fort Jennings at Miller City.

Koenig took over the school record with 1,322 career points. Abi Lammers had a triple-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 12 steals.

Jessie Foust led Fort Jennings with 10.

Girls bowling

Division II sectionals

At Astro Lanes

WAPAKONETA – Coldwater, St. Marys and Fort Recovery moved on to the district at the Division II girls bowling sectionals Friday at Astro Lanes.

The top three teams and the top three individuals move on to the district tournament.

Coldwater won the sectional with 3,293. St. Marys was second with 3,093. Fort Recovery was third with 3,089.

The individuals who advance to district were Minster’s Elyssa Mullins, Marion Local’s Olivia Schulze and Lima Central Catholic’s Madalena Knotts.

Marion Local was fourth (2,944), followed by New Bremen (2,890), Minster (2,879), Bath (2,780) and Parkway (2,679).

Bath was led by Kyle Carpenter’s 413. Linnaea Long rolled a 408.

Champion Coldwater was paced by Jasmine Schulze’s 515. Alison Fox rolled a 502.

Fort Recovery was paced by Abigail Lauber’s 481. Megan Knapke had a 441.

Lima Central Catholic’s only bowler, Knotts rolled a 464 and moved on to district.

Marion Local was led by Schulze’s 474 and she moved on to district. Alison Bruns had a 416.

Minster’s Mullins advanced with a 485. Cora Heitkamp had a 403.

New Bremen’s Katie Howell rolled a 441. Callie Wells had a 435.

Parkway’s Avery Boroff rolled a 461. Jocie Waters had a 434.

St. Marys’ Lily Steinberg led the way with a 496. Tricia Yahl had a 447.

Temple Christian’s Madision Anderson rolled a 432.

Women’s college basketball

Bluffton 58, Anderson 45

BLUFFTON – Bluffton improved its record to 13-3 with a victory over Anderson before a limited number of fans at the Sommer Center.

Bluffton’s Brianna Gillig scored her team’s first nine points of the game and finished with 17 points.

Kylie Brock scored nine and Maddie Fitzpatrick scored eight.

Bluffton outrebounded Anderson, 42-36.

John Carroll 55, Ohio Northern 52

ADA – John Carroll, ranked No. 8 in the nation, just got past Ohio Northern at the ONU Sports Center.

ONU is 3-4, all in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Brynn Serbin led the Polar Bears with 12 points. Sydney Ward had nine points and eight rebounds.

Jaidyn Hale (Bath) had nine points.

The Blue Streaks are 7-0, all in the OAC.

John Carroll’s Nicole Heffington scored 17.

ONU shot 31 percent from the field and was 4 of 23 on 3-pointers.

ONU won the boards, 44-40.

Men’s college basketball

Anderson 85, Bluffton 76 (OT)

ANDERSON, Ind. – Anderson went overtime to knock off Bluffton at Anderson.

Bluffton is 10-2. Anderson is 6-3.

Bluffton sophomore A.J. Kenney had a career-high 30 points with seven rebounds. He hit 14 of 18 from the field.

Dezman Brown scored 10. Jameel Cosby had nine points and three steals.

Anderson won the boards, 28-27.
