Roundup: Shawnee improves to 16-1 in boys hoops

KENTON – Shawnee pushed its record to 16-1 with a 74-46 boys basketball victory over Kenton at Kenton.

Shawnee remains atop the Western Buckeye League at 7-0. Kenton is 0-12, 0-5.

George Mangas paced the Indians with 32 points and five rebounds.

Austin Miller had 16 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Caden Vermillion added six points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

Brady Wheeler had six assists. Gavin Payne had 12 points and Jacob Eversole scored 11 for Kenton.

Shawnee led 35-30 at the half and 52-38 after three.

Columbus Grove 75,

Delphos Jefferson 49

DELPHOS – Columbus Grove ran past Delphos Jefferson in a Northwest Conference game at Delphos.

Grove, 14-1 overall, remains atop the NWC at 6-0. Jefferson is 5-11, 3-3.

Bo Birnesser led the Bulldogs with 20 points and four 3-pointers. Tayt Birnesser scored 19 and had three 3-pointers.

Blake Reynolds added 14 points. Trey Sautter scored 12.

Ian Wannemacher paced Jefferson with 16 points. Levi Rode scored 13.

Columbus Grove led 17-9 after the first quarter and 33-21 at the half.

Spencerville 37, Ada 36

ADA – Spencerville edged Ada in a Northwest Conference game at Ada.

Spencerville is 7-11, 3-3 in the NWC. Ada is 2-14, 0-4.

The game was tied at 8 after the first quarter. Ada led 18-15 at the half.

St. Marys 71, Bath 49

ST. MARYS – St. Marys knocked off Bath in a Western Buckeye League game at St. Marys.

St. Marys is 13-3, 4-2 in the WBL. Bath is 9-9, 3-4.

St. Marys led 14-8 after the first quarter and 36-17 at the half. St. Marys led 54-37 after three.

Lehman Catholic 48,

Temple Christian 24

SIDNEY – Lehman Catholic pulled away from Temple Christian.

Temple is 1-16, 1-6 in the Northwest Central Conference. Lehman Catholic is 13-3, 5-2.

Landon Callahan had eight points for the Pioneers. Preston Patrick scored seven.

Luke Frantz paced Lehman with 15 points. Michael MacFarland scored 11.

Allen East 75, Bluffton 68

HARROD – Allen East posted a Northwest Conference win over Bluffton at Allen East.

Allen East is 9-8, 2-4 in the NWC. Bluffton is 6-11, 1-6.

Gabe Criblez led the Mustangs with 28 points. Garrett Newland had 25 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Bradden Crumrine scored nine.

Terry Boblitt led Bluffton with 17 points. Trenton Donley scored 16. Carson Soper had 14.

Wapakoneta 41, Celina 40

WAPAKONETA – Wapakoneta’s Noah Ambos hit a pair of free throws with eight seconds to play to push the Redskins past Celina in a Western Buckeye League game at Wapakoneta.

Wapak is 10-6, 3-3 in the WBL. Celina is 4-12, 2-5.

Wapak led 23-12 after the first quarter.

Ottawa-Glandorf 71, Defiance 53

OTTAWA – Ottawa-Glandorf knocked off Defiance in a Western Buckeye League game at Hermiller Gymnasium.

O-G is 12-3, 5-1 in the WBL. Defiance is 11-7, 5-2.

Van Wert 72, Elida 44

ELIDA – Van Wert rolled past Elida in a Western Buckeye League game at the Elida Fieldhouse.

Van Wert is 6-9, 2-4 in the WBL. Elida is 2-14, 1-6.

Owen Treece paced the Cougars with 17 points and three 3-pointers. Ethan Brown scored 11. Nate Jackson had 10.

Tyler Long led Elida with 16 points and four 3-pointers. Aiden Bartels and Brendan Crow both had seven.

Kalida 32, Miller City 21

KALIDA – Kalida bumped off Miller City in a low-scoring, Putnam County League game at Kalida.

Kalida is 14-4, 4-2 in the PCL. Miller City is 6-13, 2-4.

Kalida’s Luke Erhart had 12 points, three rebounds and two assists. Brandon Miller scored eight points with four rebounds.

Austin Ruhe led Miller City with 14 points with five rebounds.

Kalida won the boards, 20-17.

Kalida led at the half 14-8 and 25-10 after three.

Ottoville 69, Continental 36

OTTOVILLE – Ottoville pulled away from Continental in a Putnam County League game at Ottoville.

Ottoville is 15-2, 6-0 in the PCL. Continental is 6-12, 1-3 in the PCL.

Ottoville led 16-15 after the opening quarter. The Big Green then pulled away and led 64-30 after three.

Coldwater 49, Parkway 47

COLDWATER – Coldwater edged Parkway in a Midwest Athletic Conference game at Coldwater.

Coldwater is 9-9, 3-4 in the MAC. Parkway is 7-9, 3-4.

Coldwater’s Ethan Post had 14 points and nine rebounds. Zack McKibben had 10 points and four assists. Jay Muhlenkamp had six points, five rebounds and three assists.

Coldwater led 32-27 at the half.

Versailles 66, Delphos St. John’s 57

DELPHOS – Versailles posted a Midwest Athletic Conference win over Delphos St. John’s at Robert Arnzen Gymnasium.

St. John’s is 4-13, 0-7 in the MAC. Versailles is 7-14, 2-6.

Versailles led 27-26 at the half.

Minster 48, Fort Recovery 45

FORT RECOVERY – Minster got past Fort Recovery in a Midwest Athletic Conference game at Fort Recovery.

Minster is 15-4, 8-0 in the MAC. Fort Recovery is 9-9, 4-3.

Minster’s Justin Nixon had 14 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Bryan Falk had 11 points.

Johnny Nixon had 10 points and six rebounds.

The Indians’ Dillan Evers had 10 points and four rebounds.

New Bremen 46, Marion Local 42

NEW BREMEN – New Bremen posted a Midwest Athletic Conference win over Marion Local at New Bremen.

New Bremen is 12-5, 5-2 in the MAC. Marion Local is 9-9, 4-3.

Reece Busse led the Cardinals with 15 points. David Homan scored 11.

Alex Eyink scored 15 for the Flyers.

Marion Local led 15-13 after the first quarter.

St. Henry 54, New Knoxville 41

ST. HENRY – St. Henry notched a win over New Knoxville in a Midwest Athletic Conference game at St. Henry.

St. Henry is 13-5, 6-1 in the MAC. The Rangers are 5-12, 1-6.

St. Henry led 20-11 after the first quarter and 25-19 at the half. St. Henry led 39-27 after three.

Cory-Rawson 34, Pandora-Gilboa 26

PANDORA – Cory-Rawson defeated Pandora-Gilboa in a Blanchard Valley Conference game at P-G.

Cory-Rawson is 9-5, 6-2 in the BVC. P-G is 8-9, 6-2.

Keevan Lee led the Hornets with 10 points. Michael Bixler scored nine.

Will Huffman had six points for the Rockets.

The Hornets led 14-11 at the half and 23-19 after three.

Liberty-Benton 56, Leipsic 45

BENTON RIDGE – Liberty-Benton won a Blanchard Valley Conference game over Leipsic at L-B.

L-B is 8-8, 6-2 in the BVC. Leipsic is 12-4, 6-2.

Mason Brandt paced the Vikings with 16 points. Dillan Niese scored 14 with nine rebounds.

The Vikings won the boards, 26-22.

Upper Scioto Valley 61, Riverside 42

MCGUFFEY – Upper Scioto Valley posted a Northwest Central Conference win over Riverside at USV.

USV is 9-7, 6-2 in the NWCC. Riverside is 7-11, 3-4.

Connor Sanders led the Rams with 25 points and seven rebounds. Jackson Rohrs had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Drew Stephens scored 10 points with six rebounds and five assists.

Ridgemont 59, Waynesfield-Goshen 56

RIDGEWAY – Ridgemont knocked off Waynesfield-Goshen at Ridgemont.

Ridgemont is 11-6, 4-3 in the Northwest Central Conference. Waynesfield is 3-13, 1-6.

Hardin Northern 41, Elgin 36

DOLA – Hardin Northern knocked off Elgin in a Northwest Central Conference game at Hardin Northern.

Hardin Northern is 10-8, 4-3 in the NWCC. Elgin is 7-11, 1-6.

Luke Wilson led Hardin Northern with 13 points. Nevin Robson had nine points and 11 rebounds.

Boys Bowling

WBL Tournament

VAN WERT – St. Marys won the Western Buckeye League bowling tournament, but Wapakoneta won the overall league championship Friday at Van Wert’s Olympic Lanes.

St. Marys won the tournament with a 2,844. Wapak was second with a 2,828. Elida was third with a 2,696.

St. Marys’ Richard Hurley won the individual league title with a 739 (233-276-230).

Elida’s Matt Adcock was second with a 651 (191-212-248). Wapak’s Sam Wagner was third with a 596 (188-218-190).

Bath’s Payton Newbury rolled a 562 (148-190-234). Brady Peterson had a 560 (139-213-208).

Wapak won the overall team title with 19 points. St. Marys was second at 18.5. Celina was third overall with 16.5 points.

Celina’s Britton Hole rolled a 590 (181-185-224). Isaac Garrett had a 562 (178-218-166).

Defiance’s Trey Siler had a 571 (231-171-169). Boston Brisero had a 559 (149-200-210).

Elida’s Landen Crates rolled a 561 (229-150-182).

Kenton was led by Stone Sauber’s 501 (166-177-158).

Ottawa-Glandorf’s Sean Kelley rolled a 544 (149-192-203).

St. Marys’ Cayden Ballweg had a 570 (158-232-180). Carter Monbeck had a 549 (187-189-173).

Shawnee’s Solomon Smith had a 568 (185-197-186). Myles Aldrich had a 526 (176-176-174).

Van Wert’s Jacob Place fired a 588 (221-191-176). Taylor Springer had a 516 (153-202-161).

Wapak’s Jon Hefner rolled a 560 (200-170-190). Tanner Haggard had a 562 (176-208-178).

The girls tournament will be held starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the same venue.

Colleges

Women’s basketball

Ohio Northern 68, Heidelberg 43

ADA – Ohio Northern ran out to a quick start and sprinted past Heidelberg Friday night at the King Horn Center.

ONU is 2-3, 2-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

ONU’s Lexi Jacobs (Wapakoneta) led the way with 13 points. Kate Iliff had 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Brynn Serbin had six points, six steals and four assists for the Polar Bears.

Alissa Stahler (Shawnee) and Kristen Luersman (Fort Jennings) both scored seven points.

ONU went out to an 18-2 lead and led 18-9 after the first quarter. ONU led 33-22 at the half.

Heidelberg (1-4, 1-4) was led by Brooke Beamer’s 17 points.

“I’m proud of the way the team played tonight,” ONU coach Mark Huelsman said. “Lexi (Jacobs) got into and offensive rhythm and Kate (Illiff) did a great job rebounding.’’

ONU shot 38 percent from the field and was 6 of 25 on 3-pointers.

Both teams had 43 rebounds.

Mount St. Joseph 72, Bluffton 69 (OT)

CINCINNATI – Mount St. Joseph went to overtime to knock off Bluffton at Cincinnati.

Bluffton’s Brianna Gillig (New Riegel) cleared the 1,000-point plateau in her career with two free throws 24 seconds into overtime.

Gillig finished with 21 points. Emma Saltzman had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Saltzman also had four assists.

Kylie Brock and Sammy Shardo (Liberty-Benton) both scored nine.

Bluffton (12-2) had its six-game winning streak stopped. Mount St. Joseph is 2-1.

Bluffton shot 33 percent from the field and was 8 of 34 on 3-pointers.

Bluffton outrebounded Mount St. Joe, 52-42. But Bluffton had 26 turnovers, compared to 21 for the Lions.

Men’s basketball

Heidelberg 86, Ohio Northern 76

TIFFIN – Heidelberg moved to 4-0 on the year, all in the Ohio Athletic Conference, with a win over Ohio Northern at Tiffin.

ONU’s C.J. Napier had 21 points and 10 rebounds. Brandon Waugh had 15 points.

Landen Long had 13, while Grant Heileman had 11. Daniel Unruh (Elida) had four assists with his eight points. Adam Scott (Wapakoneta) also had eight points.

Heidelberg led 48-37 at the half.

ONU shot 54 percent from the field and was 8 of 15 on 3-pointers.

Heidelberg won the boards, 31-22.

Bluffton 57, Mount St. Joseph 52

BLUFFTON – Bluffton held off Mount St. Joseph at Bluffton to lift its record to 10-0.

Bluffton’s Dezman Brown led the way with 18 points. Ronnie James scored 13. Jameel Cosby had 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Bluffton won the boards, 33-23.

Bluffton shot 51 percent from the field and was 7 of 13 on 3-pointers.
