Roundup: WBL crowns swim champs; Shawnee falls in boys basketball


DEFIANCE – Ottawa-Glandorf’s girls and Wapakoneta’s boys were crowned champions in the Western Buckeye League swimming and diving championships Saturday at the Defiance YMCA.

O-G’s girls won the WBL title with 359 points. Wapakoneta was second with 264.

Shawnee was third (165). St. Marys was fourth (134) and Defiance was fifth (90).

Bath was sixth, followed by Van Wert, Kenton, Celina and Elida.

Wapakoneta’s boys won the title with 308. St. Marys was second with 229.

O-G was third with 207. Shawnee was fourth (160) and Van Wert was fifth (130).

Kenton was sixth, followed by Defiance, Elida, Celina and Bath.

Wapak’s Elizabeth Gesler won the 200 free (2:06.39).

Wapak’s Nate Metzger won the 200 free (1:47.43).

O-G’s Marissa Beckett won the 200 I.M. (2:17.58).

Shawnee’s John Briggs won the 200 I.M. (2:03.01). He also won the 100 backstroke (55.78).

Wapak’s Addisyn Newman won the 50 free (25.64).

Wapak’s Alex Honigford won the 50 free (21.66). He also won the 100 free (47.83).

Defiance’s Addi Fleischman won her fourth straight diving title with 387.85.

Celina’s Holden Cuberly won the diving title with 452.25.

O-G’s Abby Warnecke won the 100 butterfly (1:03.27).

O-G’s Wes Davidson won the 100 butterfly (53.45). He also won the 500 free (4:55.87).

Celina’s Emma Guggenbiler won the 100 free (56.11).

O-G’s Kenzington Cupp won the 500 free (5:38.49).

O-G’s Maddie White won the 100 backstroke (1:02.23).

St. Marys’ Ciera Rupert won the 100 breaststroke (1:11.56).

St. Marys’ Griffin Luebke won the 100 breaststroke (1:03.76).

Boys basketball

Findlay 63, Shawnee 56

FINDLAY – Findlay halted Shawnee’s 40-game winning streak with a victory over the Indians at Findlay.

Shawnee, which went 25-0 last year, is 15-1.

Findlay is 9-3.

George Mangas paced Shawnee with 30 points and six rebounds.

Austin Miller scored 13 with three 3-pointers and four rebounds. Caden Vermillion scored seven points, with eight rebounds and five assists.

Mason Roth led Findlay with 23 points and four 3-pointers. A.J. Adams scored 14. Dylan Ankney scored 12.

Shawnee led 14-9 after the first quarter and 33-20 at the half. Shawnee led 47-43 after three.

Bath 45, Bryan 35

BATH TOWNSHIP – Bath knocked off Bryan in a late-afternoon game at Bath.

The game time was pushed up several hours because of the impending snow forecast.

Bath is 9-8.

Bradyn Fleharty led the Wildcats with 13 points. Britton Hall and Ian Armentrout scored 12.

Hall canned four 3-pointers, while Armentrout hit three.

Titus Rohrer had 22 points for Bryan.

Bath led 18-17 at the half and 29-25 after three.

Lima Senior 70, Sylvania Southview 27

SYLVANIA – Lima Senior crushed Sylvania Southview in a non-league game in Sylvania.

Lima Senior is 10-2.

Arcadia 31, Temple Christian 17

ARCADIA – Arcadia held Temple Christian under 20 points in a win at Arcadia.

Temple is 1-15. Arcadia is 2-14.

Landon Callahan led the Pioneers with six points and four rebounds. He also had three steals and three blocks.

Arcadia led 14-7 at the half and 21-9 after three.

Columbus Grove 71, Continental 47

CONTINENTAL – Columbus Grove moved to 12-1 with a Putnam County League win over Continental.

Grove is 2-1 in the PCL. Continental is 6-11, 1-3 in the PCL.

Columbus Grove had three players with 15 points, Blake Reynolds, Tayt Birnesser and Ethan Halker. Gabe Clement scored 10.

Mitchell Coleman scored 15 for the Pirates. Gavin Huff had 12.

Grove led 18-8 after the first quarter and 45-14 at the half.

Fort Jennings 50, Holgate 41

FORT JENNINGS – Fort Jennings posted a non-league win over Holgate at Fort Jennings.

Fort Jennings is 4-10.

Nick Trentman paced the Musketeers with 14 points. Evan Hoersten scored 13. Jon Grote had nine.

Fort Jennings led 28-20 at the half.

Coldwater 64, Upper Scioto Valley 61

MCGUFFEY – Coldwater knocked off Upper Scioto Valley at USV.

Coldwater is 8-9. USV is 8-7.

Zack McKibben led the Cavs with 16 points. Carson Muhlenkamp added 11 points. Ethan Post scored nine.

Jackson Rohrs paced the Rams with 20 points and eight rebounds. Connor Sanders had 18 points and six rebounds.

USV’s Kaden Hurley and Drew Stephens both scored 11.

USV won the boards, 23-20.

Lincolnview 71, Delphos St. John’s 47

MIDDLE POINT – Lincolnview ran past Delphos St. John’s at Lincolnview.

Lincolnview is 12-3. St. John’s is 4-11.

Collin Overholt had 20 points and five assists for the Lancers.

Creed Jessee and Clayton Leeth both scored 11 for Lincolnview. Jake Bowersock scored 10. Jessee also had five assists.

Nolan Schwinnen paced the Blue Jays with nine points. Landen Grothaus scored eight.

Cory-Rawson 46, Allen East 37

RAWSON – Cory-Rawson posted a win over Allen East at Cory-Rawson.

Cory-Rawson is 8-5. Allen East is 8-8.

Grant Bacon paced the Hornets with 22 points.

Kalida 51, Wayne Trace 41

KALIDA – Kalida knocked off Wayne Trace for a non-league win at Kalida.

Kalida is 13-4. Wayne Trace is 13-5.

Ayden Warnecke paced Kalida with 19 points and hit 4 of 7 on 3-pointers. Luke Erhart had 12 points and was 3 of 5 on 3-pointers.

Overall, Kalida hit 11 of 23 on threes.

Kalida won the boards, 19-12.

Brooks Laukhuf and Grayson McClure both scored 11 for the Raiders.

Kalida led 28-19 at the half.

Fort Loramie 42, Marion Local 27

MARIA STEIN – Fort Loramie posted a win over Marion Local at Marion Local.

Marion Local is 9-9.

Spencerville 55, New Knoxville 42

NEW KNOXVILLE – Spencerville knocked off New Knoxville at New Knoxville.

Spencerville is 6-11. The Rangers are 5-11.

Dylan Smith led the Bearcats with 17 points. Dalton Prichard had 14. Josh Henline scored 11.

Max Henschen paced New Knoxville with 11 points.

Minster 45, Jackson Center 41 (OT)

MINSTER – Minster went overtime to knock off Jackson Center.

Minster is 14-4.

Eric Schmidt led Minster with 16 points. Justin Nixon had nine points and 10 rebounds.

Aiden Reichert scored 18 for Jackson Center.

Emmanuel Christian 54, Leipsic 47

LEIPSIC – Emmanuel Christian notched a win over Leipsic at Leipsic.

Leipsic is 12-3.

Paul Maag paced the Vikings with 15 points. Lorenzo Walther had 11 points and four rebounds. Mason Brandt had eight points and five rebounds.

Rossford 71, Ottawa-Glandorf 57

OTTAWA – State-ranked Rossford knocked off Ottawa-Glandorf at Hermiller Gymnasium.

O-G is 11-3. Rossford is 14-0.

It was the second straight night the Titans fell to an unbeaten team, after losing to Shawnee on Friday.

Crestview 70, Hicksville 45

CONVOY – Crestview went out to a big lead and steamrolled Hicksville at Ray Etzler Gymanasium.

The Knights’ Carson Kreischer scored a career-high 28 points. Kalen Etzler had 11 points and nine assists.

Crestview ran out to a 26-6 lead after one quarter.

Riverdale 62, Miller City 44

MOUNT BLANCHARD – Riverdale knocked off Miller City at Riverdale.

Miller City is 6-12.

Pandora-Gilboa 59, Bluffton 39

PANDORA – Pandora-Gilboa defeated Bluffton at P-G.

The Rockets are 8-7. Bluffton is 6-10.

Blake Steiner and Bryce Basinger both scored 14 for the Rockets. Aiden Harris had nine.

Trenton Donley scored 11 for Bluffton. Nate Schaadt added 10.

Parkway 62, Bradford 36

BRADFORD – Parkway notched a win over Bradford at Bradford.

Parkway is 7-8.

St. Henry 65, Celina 42

CELINA – St. Henry defeated Celina at Celina.

St. Henry is 12-5. Celina is 4-11.

Logan Lefeld and Bennett Gels both had 15 points for St. Henry. Casey Bruening had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jaden Lange scored 11.

Josh Rasawehr had nine points and five boards for Celina.

Defiance 58, Napoleon 46

DEFIANCE – Defiance notched a win over Napoleon at Defiance.

Defiance is 12-6.

Elida 38, Van Buren 34

VAN BUREN – Elida won its second game of the year with a win over Van Buren at Van Buren.

Elida is 2-13.

St. Marys 67, Versailles 39

VERSAILLES – St. Marys notched a win over Versailles at Versailles.

St. Marys is 13-3. Versailles is 6-14.

Jadin Davis led the Roughriders with 23 points. Austin Parks scored 17. LeTrey Williams added 15 points.

Arlington 47, Hardin Northern 44

DOLA – Arlington knocked off Hardin Northern at Hardin Northern.

Hardin Northern is 9-8.

Oregon Cardinal Stritch 77, Kenton 56

KENTON – Cardinal Stritch came south and posted a win over Kenton at Kenton.

Kenton is 0-12.

Wayne Trace 43, Miller City 31

HAVILAND – Wayne Trace notched a win over Miller City at Wayne Trace.

Abi Lammers paced Miller City with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Gracie Shepherd had 12 points for Wayne Trace.

Wayne Trace is 13-5. Miller City is 9-9.

Girls Bowling

Minster 2,297, Shawnee 2,192

MINSTER – Minster knocked off Shawnee at the Minster Community Center.

Emma Goubeaux led Minster with a 335 (168-167). Cora Heitkamp rolled a 318 (145-173). Mara Blanke had a 313 (133-180). Elyssa Mullins had a 301 (156-145).

For Shawnee, freshman Olivia Miller led the way with a 366 (189-177). Samantha Zeltner rolled a 337 (158-179). Emma Holden had a 324 (176-148).

Boys Bowling

Jaguar Baker Marathon

Celina finished third in the Jaguar Baker Marathon.

The Bulldogs reached the semifinals before losing two straight games to Centerville, 191-151 and 205-157.

In the first round of match play, Celina defeated Kettering Fairmont, two games to one. Celina won 185-181, then lost 225-171.

Celina won the third and deciding game, 180-177, on a turkey by captain Britt Hole.

Celina finished third out of 24 teams in the qualifying stage, which advanced the Bulldogs to match play. Celina averaged 211 through six baker games.

Women’s basketball

Bluffton 78, Manchester 60

BLUFFTON – Bluffton went 6-0 on the year against Manchester with another win over Manchester, this time at Bluffton.

Bluffton is 12-1 on the year.

Sammy Shardo (Liberty-Benton) led Bluffton with 19 points and hit 7 of 10 from the field.

Emma Saltzman had 17 points. Nora Hemminger scored 10. Abbie Parkins (Bluffton) had six rebounds.

Bluffton won the boards, 36-35.

Bluffton shot 50 percent from the field and was 10 of 24 on 3-pointers.

Otterbein 69, Ohio Northern 62

ADA — ONU senior Sydney Ward (Columbus/Upper Arlington) had her first career double-double.

Ward scored a career-high 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Polar Bears (1-3 overall, 1-3 Ohio Athletic Conference).

Sophomore Brynn Serbin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) added 10 points for ONU.

The Cardinals (3-1, 3-1) had three players in double figures in scoring, led by Jenna Hoschouer with 16 points.

Men’s basketball

Bluffton 59, Manchester 54

BLUFFTON – Bluffton defeated Manchester for the second time in two nights, this time at Bluffton.

Bluffton is 9-0. Manchester is 2-5.

Aaron Rich paced the Beavers with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Mike Ketner (Minster) scored 13. Dezman Brown had 12.

Bluffton hit 42 percent from the field and was 6 of 18 on 3-pointers.

Manchester won the boards, 36-34.

Volleyball

Transylvania 3, Bluffton 2

Transylvania 3, Bluffton 0

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Transylvania went five sets to knock off Bluffton in the Heartland Conference at Transylvania.

Transylvania then went straight sets, 25-19, 25-15, 25-19, to defeat Bluffton in the league matchup.

Bluffton is 9-2, 2-1 in the Heartland.

Bluffton’s Remi Bower had 22 kills. She had 13 digs and two blocks.

Alysha Like had eight kills. Kaylie Campbell and Noel Ufferman had six kills.

Elle Price had 36 assists, 10 digs and five blocks.
