Roundup: Columbus Grove defeats Liberty-Benton in girls basketball

COLUMBUS GROVE — The host Bulldogs outscored No. 8-ranked Division III Liberty-Benton 14-9 in the fourth quarter to earn a 37-33 girls high school basketball victory Saturday.

Erin Downing had 15 points and Jaylen Sautter scored eight for Grove (10-6). Liberty-Benton fell to 13-3.

Coldwater 59, Spencerville 42

COLDWATER — The host Cavaliers (6-7) held a 25-13 halftime lead and then outscored the Bearcats (9-6) 24-11 in the third quarter. Riley Rismiller had 27 points and Paige Siefring scored 10 for Coldwater. Gillian Goecke had 13 points and Emma Leis scored 12 for Spencerville.

Hardin Northern 55,

Mansfield Temple Christian 22

DOLA — Hardin Northern jumped out to a 16-6 lead. Maddie Grappy (15), Eris McCoy (14) and Bella Wilson (10) each scored in double digits for Hardin Northern.

Kalida 42, Miller City 32

MILLER CITY — Kalida (10-4, 2-1 Putnam County League) went from a 12-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter to a 19-9 halftime lead. Miller City (9-6, 3-3 PCL) closed the gap to 28-25 at the end of the third period. Kalida then outscored Miller City 14-7 for the win.

Grace Klausing had 13 points and Camille Hovest scored 10 for Kalida. Natalie Koenig had 10 points and Carley Hermiller scored seven for Miller City.

Lima Central Catholic 77,

Upper Scioto Valley 23

MCGUFFEY — Olivia Stolly (17), Kennedy Parker (13), Kiegh Macklin (10) and Annika Wilker (10) each scored in double digits for the Thunderbirds, who held a 34-16 halftime lead. Stolly and teammate Bridget Mulcahy each had five steals. Graesan Evans had eight points and Allison Moore had eight rebounds for USV.

Waynesfield-Goshen 36

WAYNESFIELD — Peyton Spencer and Jordan Elliott each had eight points for W-G (5-10)


Van Wert Invitational

VAN WERT — Columbus Grove went 5-0, defeating Van Wert 43-33, Coldwater 42-33, Wapakoneta 38-36, Antwerp 73-5 and Parkway 52-27, to win the team title.

Jevin Langhals (106), Landen Schroeder (145), Justin Flanders (170), Tanner Blankemeyer (182) and Jeff Meyer (285) each went 5-0 for Grove. Meyer also won his 150th career match.

Dale Carrell Invitational

CLYDE — Delphos St. John’s finished eighth in the nine-team event with 70.5 points behind champion Oak Harbor (282).

DSJ’s Mason Vonderwell (160 pounds) and Chase Martin (170) won individual titles.

Wapakoneta 2,632, Shawnee 2,260

LIMA — Caige Schnarre had the high game (227) and two-game series (409) for Wapakoneta at 20th Century Lanes. Myles Aldrich had the high game (214) and series (424) for Shawnee.

Girls bowling

Wapakoneta 2,352, Shawnee 2,204

LIMA — Madison Doseck had the high game (204) and two-game series (397) for Wapakoneta at 20th Century Lanes. Olivia Miller had the high game (192) and series (362) for Shawnee.


Men’s basketball

Ohio Northern 62,

Wilmington 61

ADA — CJ Napier’s layup with 39 seconds remaining provided to be the game-winner for ONU (2-0). Napier finished with 16 points and eight rebounds and teammate Brandon Waugh scored 12.

Lourdes 77, UNOH 57

LIMA — Nathan Lessing had 19 points and Cedric Delancy Jr. scored eight for the University of Northwestern Ohio (0-5, 0-3 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference).

Women’s basketball

Bluffton 59, Earlham 38

BLUFFTON — Sammy Shardo had 15 points and Taylor Malson and Columbus Grove graduate Angel Schneider each scored eight for the host Beavers (10-1)

Ohio Northern 53,

Wilmington 52

WILMINGTON — The Polar Bears did not allow any points the final 1:06 of the game to earn the victory. Bath grad Jaidyn Hale had 17 points and Sydney Ward scored 10 for ONU (1-1)

Lourdes 68, UNOH 56

LIMA — Tya Bell had 19 points and Jada Haines scored 10 for UNOH (4-2, 1-2 WHAC).
