PERRY TOWNSHIP – Perry’s Bubby Knight tossed in 23 points and Terry Riley scored 21 to power the Commodores to a 79-51 victory over Hardin Northern in a boys basketball game Friday night at Perry.
The victory was Perry coach Matt Tabler’s 200th career victory.
Perry is 9-2, 5-0 in the Northwest Central Conference. Hardin Northern is 5-6, 1-3 in the NWCC.
The third quarter was the key for Perry.
Perry led 35-34 at the half.
Perry then outscored Hardin Northern 27-4 in the third quarter to grab a 62-38 lead after three quarters.
Will Knight had 10 points for Perry. Ryan Yingst scored seven.
Knight had three 3-pointers.
Nevin Robson scored 26 with three 3-pointers for Hardin Northern. Owen Wetherwill had 17 points with five 3-pointers.
Upper Scioto Valley 66, Temple Christian 30
LIMA — USV ran out to a big lead and cruised home to a victory over Temple Christian at Temple.
The Rams led 20-4 after the first quarter and 43-9 at the half.
USV is 5-4, 2-2 in the Northwest Central Conference. Temple is 1-10, 1-3 in the NWCC.
Connor Sanders paced the Rams with 19 points. Jackson Rohrs scored 15. Drew Stephens scored 11.
Preston Patrick led the Pioneers with 16 points and four rebounds. Landon Callahan had seven points and three assists.
USV won the boards, 27-16. USV had eight turnovers, while Temple had 17.
Celina 55, Bath 50 (OT)
BATH TOWNSHIP — Celina pulled out an overtime victory over Bath at Bath.
Celina outscored Bath 15-10 in overtime for the win.
Celina is 4-7, 2-2 in the Western Buckeye League. Bath is 6-5, 2-2 in the WBL.
Brayden Fleharty led Bath with 16 points. Andrew Stahr and Jonah Wauben both scored 12.
Josh Rasawehr led Celina with 17 points. Dylan Feister scored 12. Reeves Black had 10.
The game was tied at 40 at the end of regulation.
The game was tied at 20 at the half. Celina led 30-28 after three quarters.
Columbus Grove 67, Spencerville 35
COLUMBUS GROVE – Columbus Grove broke in 2021 by running past Spencerville in a Northwest Conference game at Columbus Grove.
It was Columbus Grove’s first game since Dec. 28.
The Bulldogs are 6-1, 3-0 in the NWC. Spencerville is 2-10, 0-3 in the NWC.
Columbus Grove led 36-19 at the half.
Cory-Rawson 55, North Baltimore 48
NORTH BALTIMORE – Cory-Rawson knocked off North Baltimore at North Baltimore.
Cory-Rawson is 5-3, 3-1 in the Blanchard Valley Conference. North Baltimore is 1-11, 0-4 in the BVC.
The Hornets’ Grant Bacon scored 15 points. Leo Miracle had 13. Miracle hit 7 of 8 at the foul line to help clinch the victory.
The Hornets led 18-12 after the first quarter.
Minster 61, New Knoxville 27
MINSTER – Minster steamrolled New Knoxville at Minster.
Minster is 10-3, 5-0 in the Midwest Athletic Conference. The Rangers are 3-9, 0-4 in the MAC.
Justin Nixon led Minster with 21 points and eight rebounds. Bryan Falk led 13 points and seven rebounds.
Minster’s Johnny Nixon had six points and five assists.
New Knoxville’s Max Henschen scored 10 points.
Minster also forced the Rangers into 19 turnovers.
Minster dominated the boards, 30-12.
Minster led 27-19 at the half.
Marion Local 42, Fort Recovery 41
FORT RECOVERY – Marion Local edged Fort Recovery at Fort Recovery.
Marion Local is 8-5, 3-1 in the Midwest Athletic Conference. Fort Recovery is 6-6, 3-1 in the MAC.
Lehman Catholic 45, Ridgemont 40
SIDNEY – Lehman Catholic posted a Northwest Central Conference win over Ridgemont at Sidney.
Lehman Catholic is 8-1, 3-0 in the NWCC. Ridgemont is 8-5, 2-2 in the NWCC.
Leipsic 62, McComb 34
LEIPSIC – Leipsic pushed its record to 9-1, 5-1 in the Blanchard Valley Conference, with a win over McComb at Leipsic.
The Vikings tied a school record with 25 steals.
Jaden Siefker had 15 points and eight steals for the Vikings. Paul Maag had 12 points. Mason Brandt had 10.
The Vikings’ Kaleb Gillespie had six points and seven rebounds.
McComb is 4-8, 2-3 in the BVC.
Lincolnview 66, Bluffton 58
BLUFFTON – Lincolnview improved to 8-1 with a victory over Bluffton at Bluffton.
The Lancers are 2-0 in the Northwest Conference. Bluffton is 4-7, 1-3 in the NWC.
Clayton Leeth tossed in 26 points for the Lancers. Creed Jessee added 14 points and Collin Overholt had 11. Jake Bowersock scored 10.
Carson Soper led Bluffton with 16 points. Nic Essinger had 14 points for the Pirates. Kyler Kinn had 10.
The Lancers led 31-25 at the half.
St. Henry 48, Versailles 36
VERSAILLES – St. Henry knocked off Versailles in a Midwest Athletic Conference game at Versailles.
St. Henry is 10-3, 4-0 in the MAC. Versailles is 4-9, 1-4 in the MAC.
St. Henry’s Bennett Gels had 14 points and five rebounds. Carter Ontrop had 13 points. Logan Lefeld had nine points and six rebounds.
Jayden Litten scored 14 for Versailles.
St. Henry won the boards, 24-22.
St. Henry led 21-19 at the half.
Fort Jennings 46, Continental 34
FORT JENNINGS – Fort Jennings notched a Putnam County League win over Continental at Fort Jennings.
Fort Jennings is 3-5, 1-1 in the PCL. Continental is 4-9, 1-2 in the PCL.
Evan Hoersten paced the Musketeers with 18 points. Jon Grote added 14 points. Jared Liebrecht scored 11.
Mitchell Coleman led the Pirates with 21 points.
The Musketeers led 21-17 at the half and 30-28 after three.
Pandora-Gilboa 76, Van Buren 45
PANDORA – Pandora-Gilboa pulled away from Van Buren at Pandora.
P-G is 5-6, 4-0 in the Blanchard Valley Conference. Van Buren is 1-10, 0-5 in the BVC.
Aidan Harris had 16 points for P-G. Blake Steiner and Bryce Basinger both scored 10.
Ethan Luginbill had nine points for the Rockets.
Peter Harringon led Van Buren with 17 points.
The Rockets led 40-24 at the half.
Ottoville 60, Miller City 35
MILLER CITY – Ottoville cruised past Miller City in a Putnam County League game at Miller City.
Ottoville is 10-2, 3-0 in the PCL. Miller City is 3-10, 1-3 in the PCL.
Ottoville led 38-13 at the half and 48-24 after three.
Allen East 67, Paulding 58
HARROD – Allen East picked up a Northwest Conference win over Paulding at Allen East.
Allen East is 8-4, 1-2 in the NWC. Paulding is 6-5, 2-2 in the NWC.
Garrett Newland led the Mustangs with 18 points and six rebounds. Gabe Criblez had 14 points.
Tyler Clum had 11 points, four rebounds and eight assists also for Allen East.
Andrew Adams had 16 points and Hunter Kauser scored 12 for Paulding.
Defiance 61, Elida 38
ELIDA – Defiance ran past Elida at the Elida Fieldhouse.
Defiance is 6-5, 3-1 in the Western Buckeye League. Elida is 1-9, 1-3 in the WBL.
New Bremen 44, Coldwater 42
COLDWATER – New Bremen held off Coldwater in a Midwest Athletic Conference game at Coldwater.
Carson Muhlenkamp led the Cavaliers with 13 points. Zack McKibben scored seven.
New Bremen is 7-4, 2-2 in the MAC. Coldwater is 6-6, 1-3 in the MAC.
New Bremen went out to an 11-0 first-quarter lead and led 27-8 at the half.
But Coldwater came back got within 36-27 after three.
Parkway 53, Delphos St. John’s 51 (OT)
ROCKFORD – Parkway went overtime to post a victory over Delphos St. John’s at Parkway.
Parkway is 5-6, 2-2 in the MAC. St. John’s is 2-7, 0-4 in the MAC.
Riverside 55, Waynesfield-Goshen 30
WAYNESFIELD – Riverside knocked off Waynesfield-Goshen at Waynesfield.
Riverside is 4-8, 2-2 in the NWCC. Waynesfield is 2-8, 1-3 in the NWCC.
Women’s college basketball
Bluffton 80, Defiance 67
DEFIANCE – Bluffton University responded to a month-long layoff by knocking off Defiance College in a women’s basketball game at Defiance.
It was the first game for Bluffton since Dec. 12. Bluffton is 7-1.
It marked the opener for Defiance.
Brianna Gillig scored 28 for Bluffton and was 4 of 5 on 3-pointers. Freshman Maddie Fitzpatrick scored 12. Emma Saltzman and Taylor Malson both scored 10.
Gillig had a game-high seven rebounds. Sammy Shardo and Kyle Brock both had four assists.
Bluffton led 44-24 at the half and stayed in control in the second half.
Bluffton shot 44 percent from the field and was 13 of 30 (43 percent) on 3-pointers.
Bluffton won the boards, 43-28.
The same two teams will meet at 2 p.m. today at Bluffton.
Men’s college basketball
Bluffton 71, Defiance 64
DEFIANCE – Bluffton’s men’s basketball team moved to 4-0 by holding off Defiance at Defiance.
Bluffton built up a 25-point lead, then coasted in with the victory.
Bluffton was led by Jameel Cosby’s 20 points. He hit 7 of 14 from the field.
Dezman Brown had 11 points. Marcus Bruns scored nine.
Aaron Rich had 11 rebounds.
Bluffton shot 48 percent from the field and was 9 of 12 at the foul line.
Bluffton easily won the boards, 43-25. Bluffton had 18 turnovers, while Defiance had 12.
The same two teams will meet at 4 p.m. today at Bluffton.
