Boys basketball: Perry starts off season with win

MCCOMB — Perry ran past McComb to post an opening-night 83-26 boys basketball victory Friday at McComb.

Bubby Knight paced the Commodores with 20 points and three 3-point goals. Terry Riley tossed in 17.

Will Knight and Aidan Simpson both had nine points for Perry.

Perry led 27-3 after the first quarter and wasn’t challenged after that.

Camden Glaser scored seven points to lead McComb.

Columbus Grove 52, Wayne Trace 49

HAVILAND – Columbus Grove got up early, but held off Wayne Trace at Wayne Trace.

The Bulldogs led 16-5 after the first quarter and 31-23 at the half. But Wayne Trace took a 38-37 lead after three.

Blake Reynolds had 22 points with 13 rebounds for Columbus Grove. Reynolds made 8 of 12 at the foul line.

The Bulldogs’ Tayt Birnesser added 20 points with four 3-pointers. He hit 4 of 9 on threes. Birnesser had five rebounds.

Trevor Sim led Wayne Trace with 14 points. Kyle Stoller scored 12 points with 10 rebounds.

Columbus Grove won the boards, 20-19.

St. Henry 64, Spencerville 41

SPENCERVILLE – St. Henry used a balanced offense to knock off Spencerville at Spencerville.

Carter Ontrop led the Redskins with 15 points and three 3-pointers. Bennett Gels and Logan Lefeld both scored 13.

Seth Heitkamp added 11 for St. Henry.

Josh Henline had 15 points with three 3-pointers for the Bearcats. Keegan Goecke scored nine.

St. Henry led 23-14 at the half and 44-29 after three.

Wapakoneta 58, Delphos Jefferson 54

DELPHOS – Wapakoneta notched a victory over Delphos Jefferson at Delphos.

Kaden Siefring led Wapak with 16 points. Zach Rogers scored 11.

Colin Bailey paced Delphos Jefferson with 17 points. Ian Wannemacher scored 13.

Trent Teman had 10 points for the Wildcats.

Leipsic 74, Bluffton 69

LEIPSIC – Leipsic’s Mason Brandt tossed in 25 points to power the Vikings to a victory over Bluffton at Leipsic.

Leipsic led 41-28 at the half and 60-41 after three.

But Bluffton charged back, as it outscored the Vikings 28-14 in the final quarter.

Kyler Kinn led Bluffton with 25 points, including 18 in the final quarter. He hit three 3-pointers.

Carson Soper had 16 points for Bluffton. Nate Schaadt scored 10.

Lorenzo Walter had 11 points for Leipsic. Tyler Sickmiller and Jaden Siefker both scored 10.

Bluffton had 10 turnovers, while Leipsic had 21.

Arlington 62, Fort Jennings 41

FORT JENNINGS – Arlington pulled away in the second half to post a victory over Fort Jennings at Fort Jennings.

Brandon Hull led Arlington with 20 points. Bryce Gast had 18 points, while Zavier Thornton had 17 with five 3-pointers.

Arlington led 20-18 at the half, then outscored Fort Jennings 23-11 in the third quarter. That gave Arlington a 43-29 lead after three.

Evan Hoersten had 14 points for Fort Jennings. Nick Trentman scored 10.

Antwerp 60, Delphos St. John’s 46

DELPHOS – Antwerp controlled the boards in a victory at Robert Arnzen Gymnasium.

Antwerp outrebounded St. John’s, 29-14.

Antwerp shot 49 percent from the field, while the Blue Jays hit 45 percent.

Landon Elwer led the Blue Jays with 14 points. Nolan Schwinnen had 12.

Luke Krause led Antwerp with 15 points.

Antwerp led 29-19 at the half and 44-34 after three.

Anna 83 New Knoxville 41

NEW KNOXVILLE – Anna blitzed past New Knoxville at New Knoxville.

Anna got off to a 20-4 first quarter lead and built the margin to 45-10 at the half.

Anna forced New Knoxville into 22 turnovers.

Patrick Covert led the Rangers with 13 points. Sammy Anspach had nine points on three 3-pointers.

Paulding 66, Continental 35

CONTINENTAL – Paulding went out to a big lead and ran away from Continental on Continental.

Payton Beckman, a 6-foot-4 center, led the Panthers with 28 points. Blake McGarvey had 15 points with three 3-pointers.

Gavin Huff had 12 points for the Pirates.

Allen East 75, Vanlue 19

HARROD – Allen East kicked off its season with a convincing victory over Vanlue at Allen East.

Ottoville 69, Cory-Rawson 33

RAWSON – Ottoville had little trouble notching a victory over Cory-Rawson at Rawson.

Ridgemont 59, Ada 58 (OT)

MT. VICTORY – Ridgemont knocked off Ada in overtime.

St. Marys 53, Fort Recovery 45

ST. MARYS – St. Marys knocked off Fort Recovery at St. Marys.

Defiance 51, Findlay 41

DEFIANCE – Defiance held off Findlay for a victory at Defiance.
