Roundup: Cory-Rawson wins girls hoops tourney

BLUFFTON — Cory-Rawson knocked off Arlington 53-46 to win the girls basketball championship game in the McDonald’s Holiday Tournament Saturday night at Bluffton.

Karissa Welte led the Hornets with 19 points.

Zoe Chisholm tossed in 17, with three 3-pointers, for Cory-Rawson and was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

According to the Cory-Rawson athletic director and tournament officials, it marked the first time Cory-Rawson has won the girls McDonald’s Holiday Tournament.

Brooklyn Smith paced Arlington with 20 points, with four 3-pointers.

Joining Chisholm and Welte on the all-tournament team were Allen East’s Savana Brooks, Bluffton’s Kyle Stackhouse, Arlington’s Cloe Crist and Kylie Jolliff and Cory-Rawson’s Mackenzie Cascaden.

Arlington led 20-9 after the first quarter and 29-19 at the half. Cory-Rawson pulled ahead 36-34 after three.

Bluffton 62, Allen East 36

BLUFFTON – Bluffton came away with the victory in the consolation game over Allen East in the McDonald’s Holiday Tournament at Bluffton.

Kylie Monday had 16 points for Bluffton.

Kylie Stackhouse added 12 points for the Pirates. Laykin Garmatter scored 11.

Bluffton led 24-23 at halftime. The Pirates outscored Allen East 20-9 in the third quarter to pull out to a 44-32 lead after three.

Allen East was led by Savana Brooks’ 12 points and two 3-pointers.

Bluffton is 1-1. Allen East is 0-2.

The Mustangs’ Soraya Jackson scored 10 and Elle Richardson had eight.

Temple Christian 65, Bowling Green Christian 55

BOWLING GREEN – Temple Christian posted a victory over Bowling Green Christian at Bowling Green.

The Pioneers’ Cecelia Worsham dominated play with 33 points.

Temple’s Jessica Holloway had 10 points, six assists and eight steals.

It was the opener for the Pioneers.

Lincolnview 43 Continental 19

CONTINENTAL – Lincolnview blew the game open in the third quarter to roll past Continental in a non-league game at Continental.

It was the opener for the Lancers. Continental is 0-2.

The Lancers led 18-15 at the half, then outscored the Pirates 16-2 in the third quarter. That gave Lincolnview a 34-17 lead after three.

Kendall Bollenbacher led the Lancers with 18 points, with two 3-pointers. She also had four rebounds and three assists.

Carsyn Looser had nine points for the Lancers.

Bryn Tegenkamp and Maddie Burke both had seven points for the Pirates.

Fort Recovery 64, Franklin Monroe 32

ARCANUM – Fort Recovery posted a victory over Franklin Monroe in the consolation game of the Arcanum Tournament.

Bluffton 66, Manchester 62

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Bluffton University women’s basketball team overcame a slow start to down Manchester at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena. Bluffton has played Manchester four times in the past 10 days, posting a 4-0 mark against the Spartans who fell to 0-5 on the season.

Sammy Shardo had a team-high 18 points, and she dished out four assists. Emma Saltzman was also in double figures with a career-high 14 counters to go along with six rebounds. Maddie Fitzpatrick finished with eight points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists. Taylor Malson picked up four steals for the victors.
