Roundup: New Bremen reaches state finals in volleyball

VANDALIA — No. 3 ranked New Bremen advanced to the Division IV state championship match with a 25-18, 25-16, 22-25, 25-13 victory Saturday against Newark Catholic at Butler High School.

Josie Reinhart and Kaylee Freund each had 10 kills, Claire Pape had 32 assists and three aces, Chloe Bornhorst had three aces and Diana Heitkamp had 21 digs for the Cardinals (25-3), who will face Tiffin Calvert (28-0), a 25-22, 25-22, 25-20 winner against Dalton, for the state championship at 4 p.m. today at the same venue.

Shawnee 2,199

CELINA — Keaton Bruns had the high game (215) and two-game series (389) for the Cavaliers at Plaza Lanes. Shawnee’s individual results were not reported by deadline.

Celina 2,448,

St. Henry 2,381

Isaac Garrett had the high game (207) and two-game series (408) for Celina. Evan Bruggeman led St. Henry with a 201 game and 356 series.

Ryleigh Brown had the high game (191) and two-game series (392) for Coldwater. Teammate Grace Obringer rolled a 190. Shawnee’s individual results were not reported by deadline.

BLUFFTON — Bluffton University was back in action, welcoming Manchester University for the second time in three days. Bluffton used a 22-16 spread in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory. Manchester fell to 0-3, while the home team stands 2-0 on the season.

Sydney Cavanaugh and Taylor Malson led the way with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Columbus Grove grad Angel Schneider added seven as the Bluffton bench outscored Manchester 39-12. Nora Hemminger pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Maddie Fitzpatrick dished out four assists and Malson came up with four steals for the victors. Cavanaugh blocked two shots.
