Cross country: Lima area teams with district championships

COLUMBUS GROVE — Area boys and girls cross country teams claimed Division III district titles Saturday.

Columbus Grove was the District 1 boys champ with 31 points with Bluffton (75) and Marion Local (98) also advancing to the Tiffin regional with top three finishes. Parkway (115) and Waynefield-Goshen (146) also finished in the top five.

Grove’s Caleb Stechschulte was the race winner with teammates Trent Koch (third), Carson Closson (sixth) and Derek Birkemeier (10th) also finishing in the top 10. Eric Nygaard led Bluftton with a fourth-place finish and Marion Local’s Noah Budde was eighth.

Upper Scioto Valley’s Zach Britton (second) and Joe Parker (seventh), Parkway’s Blake Strickler (fifth) and Fort Recovery’s Trevor Heitkamp (ninth) qualified individually for the regional with top 12 finishes.

Minster was the District 2 team winner with 29 points. Kalida (84) and New Bremen (113) also qualified for the regional. Coldwater (122) and Delphos St. John’s (147) were fourth and fifth respectively.

Perry’s Brayden Yingst was the race winner. Minster’s Alex Albers (second), Joseph Slonkosky (fourth), Jack Grieshop (fifth) and Jim Trzaska (10th) all finished in the top 10. Kalida’s Will Zeller and Ryan Lucke were seventh and ninth respectively. Zach Ashman (19th) was the top New Bremen finisher. Coldwater’s Isaac Schoen (third) and Jace Wood (11th), Allen East’s Hunter Sidle (sixth), Hardin Northern’s Aiden Gatchel (eighth) and Ottoville’s Michael Steffan (12th) advanced individually.

Minster’s Ella Boate, Taylor Roth, Mason Pohl, Maggie Hemmelgarn, Chaney Cedarleaf and Cameo Cedarleaf finished first through sixth respectively and teammate Morgan Ketner was eighth as the Wildcats won the girls District 1 championship with 15 points. New Bremen (57) and Delphos St. John’s (73) also advanced to the regional. New Bremen’s Chloe Homan was seventh and DSJ’s Ava Milligan was 10th. Kalida’s Andrea Burgei (ninth) advanced individually.

Fort Recovery (35 points), led by race winner Ellie Will, was the District 2 winner with St. Henry (51) and Columbus Grove (84) also qualifying for regionals. fort Recovery’s Jenna hart (fifth), Brynn Stammen (eighth) and Anna Wendel (10th) also finished in the top 10. Grove’s Erin Downing was fourth and St. Henry’s Leah Heitkamp (sixth), Katie Kunkler (seventh) and Ally Heath (ninth) finished among the top 10. Waynesfield-Goshen’s Taylor Spencer (second) and Spencerville’s Lillee Stewart (third) qualified for regionals individually.

Ottawa D-III district

OTTAWA — The Lincolnview boys (93 points) finished third to qualify for the Tiffin Regional. Team champ Holgate (32), Tinora (63), Archbold (129) and Sherwood Fairview (147) also advanced to the regional with top-five finishes.

Daegan Hatfield led Lincolnview with a fifth-place finish. Tinora’s Jacob Cramer was the race winner. Crestview’s Dayton Schuerman (21st) and Hayden tomlinson (24th) advanced individually by finishing among the top 24.

The Crestview girls (133) were third to qualify for the regionals along with team champ Archbold (91), Holgate (116), Tinora (151) and Fayette (156). Emily Greulach led Crestiview with a 16th place finish. Lincolnview’s Madison Langdon (third) and Julia Stetler (18th) and Leipsic’s Lola Wensink (sixth) qualified for the regional individually.

Owens D-II district

FINDLAY — Celina won the girls title with 37 points with Eastwood (46) finishing second. Celina’s Kaylie Dameron (19 minutes, 3.83 seconds) and Joscelyn Dameron (19:51.11) were first and second respectively. Teammate Rose Kraner was seventh (21:32.45) as the Bulldogs advanced to the Tiffin regional.

Owens D-I district

FINDLAY — Wapakoneta’s Nate Metzger advanced to the Tiffin regional with an eighth-place finish in 17:11.72 at Owens Community College in the District 2 boys race. Wapak (177 points) was sixth in the team standings with Toledo St. Francis (40) winning the team title. Ashland’s Joshua Hawley was the race winner (16:19.5).

Celina (247) was ninth and Lima Senior (319) was 11th in the District 1 boys event. Bowling Green (65) was the team champ. No area runners in the race advanced to the regional.

The Wapakoneta girls were eighth in District 1 and Lima Senior was 1oth in District 2 competition. No area runners advanced in either race.
