Roundup: St. Marys moves on with OT football playoff victory

ST. MARYS – St. Marys’ Ross Henschen ran for a 14-yard TD in overtime to lift the Roughriders to a 6-0 overtime victory over Franklin in the second round of the Division III, region 12 football playoffs Friday at St. Marys.

St. Marys (6-2) advances to the third round against No.-1 seed Bellbrook at 7 p.m. Friday at Bellbrook.

Henschen finished with 11 carries for 59 yards and the game-winning TD.

St. Marys’ Aiden Hinkle had 11 carries for 39 yards.

Franklin’s Tressel Gibson had 23 carries for 71 yards. In the air, Gibson completed 6 of 14 for 73 yards.

St. Marys had 195 total yards and only eight first downs. The Roughriders ran for 156 yards.

Franklin had 16 first downs and 232 total yards. Franklin had 159 yard rushing

The game was scoreless at the end of regulation.

Region 12

Hamilton Badin def. Wapakoneta, forfeit

Hamilton Badin won a no-contest victory when Wapakoneta was forced to forfeit because of COVID concerns.

Region 10

Bowling Green 56, Defiance 13

BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green knocked off Defiance at Bowling Green.

Defiance is 1-7.

Region 26

Leipsic 41, Antwerp 14

LEIPSIC – Leipsic’s Lorenzo Walther ran past Antwerp in the second round of the playoffs at Leipsic.

Walther had 17 carries for 221 yards with two TDs. He had TD runs of 4 and 49 yards.

Leipsic advances to the third around against No. 2-seed Arlington at 7 p.m. Friday at Arlington.

The Vikings’ Dillan Niese had 10 carries for 69 yards with one TD. In the air, Niese completed 7 of 17 for 104 yards. He threw two TDs.

Caleb Ellerbrock added 14 carries for 53 yards with one TD.

Leipsic led 14-7 after the first quarter and built up a 28-13 lead at the half. The Vikings led 41-13 after three quarters.

The Vikings had 458 total yards, with 354 coming on the ground.

Antwerp had 205 total yards, but was held to 10 yards rushing.

Antwerp quarterback Carson Altimus completed 11 of 19 for 176 yards. He threw one TD.

Lima Central Catholic def. Delphos St. John’s, forfeit

LIMA – Lima Central Catholic advanced when Delphos St. John’s was forced to forfeit because of COVID concerns.

LCC, the No. 1-seed, advances to the third round against Sycamore Mohawk at 7 p.m. Friday at Spartan Stadium.

Perry def. Edgerton, forfeit

PERRY TOWNSHIP – Perry advanced when Edgerton was forced to forfeit because of COVID concerns.

Perry advances to the third round to face Hopewell-Loudon at 7 p.m. Friday at No. 3-seed Perry.

Region 28

Marion Local 56, Cedarville 0

MARIA STEIN – Marion Local romped past Cedarville in the second round of the playoffs at Marion Local.

Marion Local (7-0) advances to the third round to face New Miami at 7 p.m. Friday at No.-1 seed Marion Local.

The Flyers led 20-0 after the first quarter and 48-0 at the half, which kicked in the second-half running clock.

Marion Local’s Kyle Otte had five carries for 67 yards. He ran for a 37-yard TD.

Flyers quarterback Carson Griesdorn completed 4 of 4 for 85 yards. He threw two TDs.

Marion Local’s Charles Huelsman had five receptions for 110 yards. He had TD catches of 25 and 25 yards.

Marion Local had 397 total yards, with 257 on the ground.

Cedarville was held to 122 total yards, with 58 on the ground.

Cedarville had only seven first downs.

New Bremen 52, Southeastern Local 7

NEW BREMEN – New Bremen steamrolled Southeastern Local in the second round of the playoffs at New Bremen.

New Bremen (5-2) advances to the third around against St. Henry at 7 p.m. Friday at New Bremen.

St. Henry 47, Grove City Christian 7

ST. HENRY – St. Henry rolled past Grove City Christian in the second round of the playoffs at St. Henry.

The Redskins led 41-0 at the half and weren’t challenged in the second half.

St. Henry (5-2) advances to the next round against New Bremen at 7 p.m. Friday at New Bremen.

St. Henry’s K.J. Jacobs had nine carries for 75 yards. He ran for a 7-yard TD and caught a 33-yard TD.

St. Henry’s Owen Lefeld had eight carries for 60 yards with one TD.

St. Henry quarterback Bryce Brookhart completed 7 of 8 for 140 yards. He threw three TDs, for 33, 32 and 41 yards.

St. Henry held Grove City Christian to four first downs and 25 total yards, including -64 rushing.

St. Henry had 324 total yards, with 177 on the ground.

Regular season

Greenville 21, Celina 20

GREENVILLE – Greenville edged Celina with a fourth-quarter TD in a regular-season matchup at Greenville.

Celina (3-5) led 20-14 entering the fourth quarter.

Celina’s Cooper Jones completed 10 of 25 for 143 yards. He threw TDs.

Celina’s Jayden King had seven carries for 86 yards and one TD.

Paulding 31, Hardin Northern 21

DOLA – Paulding knocked off Hardin Northern in a regular-season game at Hardin Northern.

Paulding is 2-6. Hardin Northern is 3-5.

Hardin Northern’s Owen Wetherill had 15 carries for 136 yards. He had TD runs of 60 and 12 yards. Wetherill had five receptions for 89 yards and caught a TD for 49 yards.

Lehman Catholic 24, Upper Scioto Valley 6

MCGUFFEY – Lehman Catholic knocked off Upper Scioto Valley at McGuffey.

USV is 3-5.

Lehman Catholic led 21-0 at the half and 24-0 after three quarters.

The Rams’ Jackson Rohrs had 15 carries for 93 yards and one TD.

USV’s Kadyn Hurley completed 10 of 28 for 134 yards.

USV had 226 total yards with 92 rushing.

Lehman Catholic had 225 total yards, with 174 rushing.

Arcadia 36, Waynesfield-Goshen 32

WAYNESFIELD – Arcadia defeated Waynesfield-Goshen in a regular-season game at Waynesfield.

Waynesfield-Goshen is 4-3.

Ridgemont 54, Cory-Rawson 27

RAWSON – Ridgemont went out to a 26-7 halftime lead and cruised past Cory-Rawson in a regular-season game at Rawson.

Ridgemont is 3-5.

Cory-Rawson’s Hunter Stauffer had 10 carries for 147 yards. He had two TDs.

Cory-Rawson’s Nick Thompson had 15 carries for 55 yards with one TD.

Ridgemont had 475 total yards, with 190 on the ground.

Cory-Rawson had 238 total yards, with 231 rushing.

Girls tennis

D-II district

PORT CLINTON — Two area doubles teams qualified for state by reaching the semifinals at the Division II district.

Bath’s Ruby Bolon and Esther Bolon and Shawnee’s Aria Patel and Alora Patel advanced in doubles. Bath’s Elena Oliver and Anne Oliver fell in the quarterfinals after winning their opening round doubles match. LCC doubles team Libby Simmons and Morgan Chaney fell in the opening round.

Van Wert’s Grace Lott fell in the quarterfinals after winning her first-round singles match.

Van Wert’s Allie Etter and Lima Central Catholic’s Paige Brinkman dropped their opening round singles matches and Shawnee’s Kunmi Ojo had to default her first match.
