Two Lima area varsity football games scheduled for Friday night have been canceled.
Lima Senior was scheduled to play at Toledo St. John’s but, according to a posting on the Lima City Schools Facebook page, St. John’s has to quarantine after playing Findlay, which has positive COVID-19 cases, last Friday. The Saturday JV game is also canceled.
The Ada at Spencerville Northwest Conference tournament has been canceled with Ada deciding to end its season.
Ada head coach Shawn Christopher said that a group of players had left the program and that a decision was made that it would not be safe for the remaining athletes to complete the season. He added that Athletic Director Eric Perkins, Superintendent Meri Skilliter and high school principal Dan Lee were involved in the decision.
Spencerville will play next Friday, Sept. 25, against the winner of the Paulding at Allen East game. Ada will not be playing any more games this season.
With its season concluded, Christopher said he is stepping down as the head coach.
He said the main reasons for his departure are to spend more time with his family, focus more on improving his health and hopefully provide an opportunity for someone to come in and bring more excitement to the program. He plans to remain a teacher at Ada.
