Liberty-Benton took a 47-28 win over Lima Central Catholic in a non-league match-up of unbeaten football teams at Spartan Stadium on Saturday night.

Brycen Abbott rushed for 245 yards and scored four touchdowns on runs of 48 yards, 45 yards, 35 yards and 16 yards for the Eagles (3-0). Shaun Thomas had 153 yards for LCC (2-1).

The Thunderbirds scored the first two times they had the ball but Liberty-Benton was unfazed by that.

LCC went up 7-0 on a 52-yard touchdown run by Thomas on its fourth offensive play of the game and Nathan Davidson’s extra-point kick.

After recovering a Liberty-Benton fumble at its own 43-yard line, LCC got a 51-yard TD run from Thomas to go up 14-0 with 8:16 left in the first quarter.

Liberty-Benton responded with 27 unanswered points over the next 16 1/2 minutes to take a 27-14 lead with five minutes left in the first half.

L-B rolled up 283 yard of total offense in the first half, 200 of it on the ground.

The Eagles’ touchdowns came on a 3-yard run by Nathaniel DiRe, a 1-yard run by DiRe,a 19-yard run by Dru Baker, and a 45-yard run by Abbott.

LCC narrowed the margin to 27-21 at halftime on a 3-yard run in the final minute of the first half by Thomas at the end of a 68-yard drive.

The Thunderbirds started freshman Carson Parker at quarterback and Thomas also took some snaps.

Parker connected with Traves Hoyle on a 50-yard touchdown pass at 10:24 of the third quarter to give LCC a 28-27 lead.

But Liberty-Benton scored three unanswered touchdowns on a 48-yard run by Abbott, a 16-yard run by Abbott and a 35-yard run by Abbott to go up 47-28.

LCC was without six starters who were reportedly quarantined.
