Roundup: Shawnee’s Jensen has three goals in victory

TOLEDO — Carter Jensen had three goals and Alex McGuire had a trio of assists as Shawnee opened its boys soccer season with a 7-2 victory Friday night against Toledo Central Catholic.

Anthony Best had two assists and Jake Miller had a goal and two assists also for Shawnee.

MIDDLE POINT — Kellen Schlagbaum had two goals and Brice Schroeder, Kyle Manns, and Will Miller had one tally each.

FINDLAY — Chandler Clark had an assist and a goal and Rachel Clark scored the game-winner as the Bath girls soccer team open its season with a victory against Liberty-Benton. Madelyn Renner had 11 saves in goal.

Kira Dirksen and Mia Rolfes each had a goal for Celina.

VAN WERT — Lincolnview (170) had the low team total against Northwest Conference opponents Paulding (180), Delphos Jefferson (185) and Crestview (215).

Landon Price (40), Grant Glossett (41), Evan Miller (43) and Dane Ebel (46) combined for the winning score at the par 36 Hickory Sticks.

Delphos Jefferson’s Logan Gallmeier was medalist with a 37. Paulding’s Hailey Hartzell (44) and Crestview’s Will Sharpe (48) had the low rounds for their respective schools.

38 - Carson Muhlenkamp (38), Nick Kline (43) and Keaton Bruns (47) contributed to the Cavaliers’ winning score at the par 36 Mercer County Elks. Coldwater’s Keegan Bruggeman and Ben Giere each shot 49. Marion Local’s individual scores were not reported by deadline.

MINSTER — Sam Anspach led New Knoxville with a 45 at the par 36 Arrowhead Golf Course.

Ottoville’s Thorbahn

to play for Findlay

OTTOVILLE — Josh Thorbahn, a 6-5 senior from Ottoville High School, announced his commitment to the University of Findlay’s men’s basketball team on Twitter on Thursday night.

Thorbahn has started for the Big Green since he was a freshman. He was the Putnam County League Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2019 when he averaged 18.3 points a game. He was first-team All-PCL as a junior when he averaged 13.5 points a game when he played with a shoulder injury.

Thorbahn was third-team Division IV All-Ohio as a sophomore and special mention All-Ohio last season.

Penn State hires

Bath graduate

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Stephanie Sanders, a Bath High School graduate, has been hired as an assistant softball coach at Penn State.

Sanders had been an assistant coach at Miami University the last two years. Before that she was an assistant at Villanova and Saginaw Valley State. She was an all-state player at Bath and a four-year letter winner at Michigan State.

Miami head coach Clarisa Crowell was hired as Penn State’s head coach on Aug. 3.
