Lima Central Catholic has updated its football schedule after initially adopting one with the Blanchard Valley Conference earlier this month.
On Wednesday, Lima Central Catholic athletic director John Schnieders released a statement and stated: “The Blanchard Valley Conference responded and informed LCC that one of the proposals being considered by their athletic directors involved the T-Birds filling open dates in the schedules of six of their schools. On Wednesday, Aug. 12, the BVC AD’s met, voted to adopt that proposal, communicated that to LCC, and the schedule was released to the media that evening.
The next morning LCC was contacted by McComb and it was relayed that their superintendent stated that they would not be playing LCC on Week 2 as scheduled, and later that day Pandora-Gilboa indicated the same for week 4. Specific reasons for these decisions were not given.”
Schnieders said he confirmed with the administrators of Van Buren (Week 1), Liberty-Benton (Week 3), and Leipsic (Week 5) their intent to honor the agreement and play. After internal discussions, Arlington (Week 6) has confirmed today its intent to play. LCC has spent the last week securing games for the newly opened weeks, first contacting schools in the region with open weeks and then other regions of the state. The Thunderbirds will visit Licking Valley on Friday, Sept. 4, and Cambridge on Saturday, Sept. 19.
“Lima Central Catholic has been committed to providing a full football schedule to our student-athletes and coaches who signed up for a 10 game season plus hopes of a playoff opportunity,” Schneiders said. “Taking bye weeks or refusing to play certain opponents does not reflect the spirit of competition we teach and is not something we think serves the interest of our student-athletes who have been incredibly resilient through the adverse conditions caused by COVID-19.”
LCC schedule (all games but Cambridge scheduled to start at 7 p.m.): at Van Buren, Aug. 28; at Licking Valley, Sept. 4; Liberty-Benton at Spartan Stadium, Sept. 12; at Cambridge, 4 p.m., Sept. 19; Leipsic at Spartan Stadium, Sept. 26; Arlington at Spartan Stadium, Oct. 2.
