Roundup: Ohio Northern tennis duo receive all-academic honors

ADA — Ohio Northern’s Jordan Dodson and Mackenzie Wills, an Ada graduate, were named ITA Scholar Athletes by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the 2019-20 season.

As a team, the Polar Bears also received All-Academic Team honors from the ITA.

The award was given to 1,058 Division III women’s student/athletes with a GPA of 3.5 or greater for the 2019-20 academic year. The team award is based on a 3.20 or greater team GPA.

Richards returns as assistant

ADA — Ohio Northern national champion Emily Richards is returning to her alma mater as an assistant coach for the cross country and track and field teams.

Richards will assist with cross country and coach the middle distance runners in the track and field program.

Richards is beginning her third season under contract with Hoka One One. She will continue her primary responsibility of being a professional athlete and to pursue her goals of competing at the Olympic Trials and beyond.

Richards was a 9-time NCAA Division III national champion and a 13-time All-American during her four seasons at ONU.

Lima Family Y programs

LIMA — Sign ups for Family YMCA gymnastics, karate and swim lessons are available through next week. Some swim lessons are scheduled to start Monday. A new session of group exercise classes are scheduled to begin the week of Aug. 10 with signups now available. Register at or stop by the Y at 345 S. Softball tryouts

The Lake Erie Waves 10U travel softball team will be holding tryouts for the 2021 season at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 6 and 11:30 a.m. Aug. 8th at at Lions Park, 305 S. Washington Street, Castalia.

Participants should arrive 30 minutes early to register.
