LIMA — The Lima Area Women’s Match Play Tournament has been called off for 2020.
“First, let me say how much I have appreciated all of your support at one time or another by participating/playing in the Lima Area Women’s Match Play Tournament,” Tournament Director Asa Donaldson said to the competitors in a news release Thursday. “I have been part of this event for nearly a decade, and although at times our numbers have been low, its been a great event in which I hope you feel has been organized and ran in a professional manner.
“Secondly, it is with extreme sadness to have to announce that the 77th playing of the Lima Area Women’s Match Play Tournament will not take place this year due to the many uncertainties surrounding COVID-19. We still believe golf is a great sport for exercise and outdoor enjoyment, but with concerns regarding social/physical distancing, gatherings of groups, etc., we feel this is the best decision to make at this current time. Although a tough decision to make, this decision was made with the input of many involved along with guidance from industry leaders.”
This year’s event was scheduled for July 30-August 2 throughout Allen County.
“Our number one priority is the safety of the participants, spectators, tournament staff, and facilities in which we use,” Donaldson said. “To our players and sponsors, we thank you for your continued support of this long-standing event.
It is our full intention to have a great event in 2021. It is my hope to see many of you then. Dates will be secured and an update will be given in the future as to our 2021 event.”
