Track & field: Columbus Grove’s Ellerbrock, Leipsic’s Rigel win state titles

GENEVA — Columbus Grove’s Alyssa Ellerbrock and Leipsic’s Ella Rigel won titles during the OATCCC Indoor State Championships last weekend at the Spire Institute.

Ellerbrock won the Division II/III girls 3,200 in 11 minutes, 2.30 seconds. Rigel won the weight throw (15.45 meters) with Grove’s Kennedy Flores finishing fourth (14.36 meters) and Van Wert’s Kirsten Clay coming in ninth (13.19 meters). Clay was also eighth in the shot put (11.27 meters)

Other area top 10 finishers in the girls D II/III included: New Bremen’s Macy Puthoff in the long jump (second, 4.99 meters), Coldwater’s Jessica Break in the pole vault (third, 3.58 meters), Leipsic’s Peyton Heitmeyer in the long jump (seventh, 4.85 meters), Kalida’s Hannah Berheide in the 200 (eighth, 26.16) and Hardin Northern’s Renee Newton in the high jump (tied for ninth, 1.52 meters).

In Division I, Lima Senior’s Deji’Ona Simpson (fifth, 57.92 in 400), India Benton (eighth, 58.96 in 400) and Jae’Anna Hughes (ninth, 7.84 in 60 final, 7.8 in qualifying) each had top 10 individual efforts.

Lynnae Wheeler, Simpson, Benton and Hughes were fifth in the 800 relay (1:43.92) and Coryasia Owens, Benton, Simpson and Hughes were eighth in the 1,600 relay (4:04.50).

In the boys D II/III competition, Indian Lake’s Dustin Franks (third, 12.31 meters in triple jump), Grove’s Zeke Halker (fifth, 1.87 meters in high jump), Hardin Northern’s Frank McCoy (fourth, 6.33 meters in long jump), Lincolnview’s Daegan Hatfield (seventh, 1.77 meters in high jump) and Pandora-Gilboa’s Bryce Basinger (10th, 6.03 meters in long jump) all had top 10 individual finishes.

Fort Recovery’s Jacob Acheson, Riley Pearson, Owen Moorman and Drew Muhlenkamp were third in the 800 relay (1:31.98) and Columbus Grove’s Caleb Stechschulte, Trent Koch, Derek Birkemeier and Carson Closson were seventh in the 3,200 relay (8:30.27).
