BOWLING GREEN — A big crowd may have been nice, but Ottawa-Glandorf brought its own energy with its defensive wave across the court.
After the first few minutes, it was clear O-G had way too much quickness and speed for Colonel Crawford.
O-G pressed and ran past Colonel Crawford 66-34 in the Division III boys basketball regional semifinals Wednesday at the Bowling Green Stroh Center.
The game was played in front of close to 200 fans because of the “limited attendance” decision by Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio High School Athletic Association with the coronavirus (COVID-19).
O-G (25-1) advances to the regional finals against Evergreen (25-1) at 7 p.m. Saturday at Bowling Green.
Colonel Crawford ends its season 23-4.
Brennen Blevins led the Titans with 23 points with five 3-point goals. He had 18 points in the second half.
Owen Nichols tossed in 13 points (all in the first half).
Ben Westrick had seven points and seven rebounds.
Ethan Alt had five points and eight rebounds.
O-G won the boards 25-22.
In the first regional semifinal game of the night, Evergreen knocked off Johnstown-Monroe 64-54.
The Titans’ press-and-run game continually did damage against Crawford, forcing them into 14 turnovers after three quarters.
And most of the turnovers were converted into O-G transition baskets at the other.
O-G cranked up its running game and sprinted out to a 15-2 lead.
The Titans led 20-9 after the first quarter and 25-14 at the half.
Nichols started the game off with a 3-pointer.
Then, Parker Schomaeker nailed a 3-pointer.
Nichols went inside for a layup to make it 8-0.
Nichols then got loose on the break and slammed down a breakaway dunk to make it 10-2.
Blevins had a fastbreak layup and a 3-pointer.
Just like that, the Titans had a 15-2 lead.
On the defensive side, the Titans used a man in the halfcourt, along with a man press and a 1-2-2 press.
O-G forced Colonel Crawford into five turnovers in the first quarter.
By halftime, Nichols had 13 points.
O-G’s defense also held Colonel Crawford to 4 of 14 shooting from the field in the first half.
The Titans opened up the second half on a 10-1 run, including getting a spark from two Blevins’ 3-pointers.
That gave O-G a 35-15 lead with 4:09 left in the third quarter.
O-G outscored Colonel Crawford 22-7 in the third to take a 47-21 lead after three.
For the game, O-G shot 54 percent from the field and was 10 of 20 on 3-pointers.
Colonel Crawford shot 32 percent from the field and was 3 of 11 on threes.
Mason Loeffler scored 29 points and Nate Brighton added 18 to power Evergreen past Johnston-Monroe.
Loeffler hit 10 of 19 from the field and was 9 of 10 on free throws.
Gavin Foe led Johnstown-Monroe with 21 points.
Evergreen won the boards, 27-20. Brighton had nine rebounds.
