AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Lincolnview graduate Chayten Overholt recorded a walk-off, two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Ohio Northern a 2-1 Russ Matt Invitational victory Saturday against Albion.
Northern returns home with a 5-5 overall record, having gone 5-2 in Florida.
ONU’s Jack Schaller pitched 8 2/3 innings, allowing one run, six hits and striking out eight. Reliever, Scott Beaton, who pitched 1/3 of an inning, got his first win of the season.
Rockford 4, Bluffton 2
FORT MYERS, Fla. — Bluffton finished off its spring break trip, slipping to 4-6 on the season, winning four of its final six contests in Florida.
The Beaver offense was led by Luke Hanson who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Picking up the only other hit for Bluffton was Jeff Strayer, who had a pinch hit single in the ninth.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Ohio Northern wrapped up its spring break trip against Nazareth (N.Y.) at NLPA Field.

Track & field
ADA — Men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams competed at the Polar Bear Final Qualifier Saturday inside the ONU Sports Center.
Megan Wright paced Ohio Northern won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18 minutes, 40.87 seconds. Bluffton’s Alexis Cash (19:26.85) and Bailie Barrington (19:40.62), a Waynesfield-Goshen graduate, were second and third respectively.
Also for ONU, Chyanne Retcher took third in the 800-meter run (2:24.15) and Stella DeWitt was runner-up in the long jump (17-01.50) followed by Bluffton’s Caitlyn Renner (16-05.75), a Bath grad.
For the the men, ONU’s Kyle Neff won the 3,000-meter run (9:06.57) and Andrew Shelton was third (9:14.64). Bluffton’s Connor Gulick won the 800 (1:59.03)
Northern’s Luke Shellhaas was second in the pole vault (14-09.5).

Second team All-Ohio player Lexi Gregory of Crestview has committed to play for the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Gregory also has received first team All-Northwest Conference honors in volleyball, basketball and softball. She plans to major in business administration.
