Due to the Wayne Trace girls basketball team taking part in the Division IV regional tournament at Elida on Thursday, the Wayne Trace boys basketball game at the Division III district tournament in Lima Senior has been moved to 6:15 p.m.

Therefore, the adjusted schedule for the Division III district tournament at Lima Senior is as follows: 6:15 p.m. – Wayne Trace vs. Lima Central Catholic; 8 p.m. – Ottawa Glandorf vs. Coldwater

The schedule for the Division IV girls at Elida remains as originally scheduled: 6:15 p.m. – Toledo Christian vs. Minster; 8 p.m. – Wayne Trace vs. Kalida

ONU baseball collects win

AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Junior Andy Mills (Cincinnati/St. Xavier) had a 2-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Ohio Northern to a 9-7 baseball victory over No. 19-ranked St. John Fisher (N.Y.) on Monday morning in the RussMatt Invitational at Lake Myrtle Main field.

The Polar Bears improve to 2-4 on the season, while the Cardinals fall to 5-1.

Junior Michael Rocco (Orlando, Fla./Zionsville (Ind.)) went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI to join Mills, junior Will Davis (Upper Arlington/Bishop Watterson), junior Krue Thwaits (Greenville/Milton-Union) and sophomore Chayten Overholt (Delphos/Lincolnview) with multi-hit games for ONU.

Northern built a 6-0 lead by scoring twice in the bottom of the first and four more times in the bottom of the second inning.

SJFU rallied for seven unearned runs in the top of the fourth to grab a 7-6 lead.

That lead stood until the seventh when Mills plated Overholt and freshman Nate Webb (Liberty, Ind./Union County) with a two-out single to left to make it 8-7.

Rocco followed with a single to center to score Mills with an insurance run to extend the lead to 9-7.

Senior Devin Johnson (Wooster) then threw two hitless innings to pick up his first save of the season.

Junior James Fisher (Castalia/Margaretta) got the win with 3.1 innings of shutout relief to improve to 1-1 on the season.

ONU softball splits a pair

KISSIMMEE, FLA. — The Ohio Northern softball team moved to 2-2 on the season with a split of games against a pair of Eagles on Day 2 of The Spring Games at Legends Way Field #2 on Monday.

The Polar Bears began play with an 11-3 victory over Eastern (Pa.) on Monday morning before falling to Bridgewater (Va.) 10-5 on Monday afternoon.

Senior Jordan Cloonan (Kirtland/Cornerstone Christian) went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and two runs scored to lead a 13-hit ONU offensive attack against the Eastern Eagles (0-1) in the opener.

Northern plated four runs in the second frame, three more in the fourth and three more in the sixth to grab the win.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Hagarty (Akron/Revere) picked up the win with a complete-game 5-hitter to improve to 1-1 on the season.

Senior Brady Guest (Convoy/Crestview) capped a 5-hit day by going 3-for-3 with an RBI as ONU fell in the nightcap to the Bridgewater Eagles (6-2).

ONU tennis pick up two wins

ORLANDO/KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Ohio Northern women’s tennis team improved to 3-1 on its annual Spring Break trip with a 5-2 win over Midway (Ky.) and a 6-3 win over Concordia (Minn.) on Monday.

The Polar Bears (8-3 overall) began the day with the 5-2 win over the Eagles (4-6) at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando on Monday morning.

ONU then topped the Cobbers (2-7) at Oak Street Park in Kissimmee on Tuesday evening.

Senior Mackenzie Wills (Ada) and freshman Jeorgia Templin (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) each went 4-0 on the day to lead Ohio Northern.

Wills won at Nos. 3 and 4 singles and Templin won at Nos. 5 and 6 singles. The duo then went 2-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Senior Katie Curry (Oxford/Talawanda) was 3-0 on the day with wins at Nos. 4 and 5 singles and No. 3 doubles with freshman Regan Landis (Elkhart, Ind./Concord).
