HARROD — Athletic director Jacklyn Smith has announced that assistant Joel Billings has been recommended to be the new Allen East varsity head coach, pending school board approval.
Billings would replace Wes Schroeder, who resigned in January after his wife accepted a new position in Columbus.
LIMA — Two Lima Senior students will sign their national letters of intent to continue their athletic and academic careers at the next level at 3:30 p.m. today in the Lima Senior teachers’ lounge.
India Benton will sign with Indiana University-East to compete in track. She was a member of the 2018 TRAC championship team and the 2019 4 x 400 and 4 x 200 conference championship teams. Benton is a three-year varsity letter winner and TRAC All-Academic.
Larry Ragland will sign with Independence Community College to play football. The varsity letter winner was a starting wide receiver for the Spartans.
Bluffton 47, Anderson 41
ANDERSON, Ind. — Bluffton stifled Anderson in the first round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament. Not only did the victory avenge a pair of regular-season losses to the Ravens, it propelled the Beavers into the semifinals at Transylvania on Saturday. Bluffton improved to 14-12, while Anderson’s season came to an end with an 11-15 mark.
Bluffton’s Brianna Gillig had 21 points and 12 rebounds for her 10th career double-double. Teammate TJ Mills scored 12.
Bluffton is slated to take on the No. 1 seed and tournament host Pioneers at 1 p.m. with the winner to face either Hanover or Franklin on Sunday for the HCAC tournament championship at 11:30 a.m.

ADA — Abby Weeks netted a career-high 18 points to lead ONU. The Polar Bears propelled themselves into the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals.
ONU (20-6 overall) will travel to University Heights to face No. 25-ranked John Carroll at 7 p.m. Thursday.

ADA — Seth Transue, Cash Thompson and Jordan Hardrick were named All-Ohio Athletic Conference in voting conducted by the league’s eight head coaches.
Transue earned First Team All-OAC accolades at the 133-pound weight class, where he is currently ranked No. 9 nationally.
Thompson (at 197) and Hardrick (at 165) were each named Second Team All-OAC.
