Roundup: Allen East wins wrestling invitational

VAN BUREN — Allen East (247.5 points) won Saturday’s 29-team Van Buren Invitational wrestling competition with Bluffton (117.5) finishing sixth, Columbus Grove (74) 11th, Kenton (46) 18th, Cory-Rawson (37.5) 20th, Lincolnview (19) 23rd and Ottawa-Glandorf (7) 28th.

Allen East’s Garrett Neth (195) and Kade Wireman (128) won their weight classes.

Catholic Invitational

CINCINNATI — Lima Central Catholic’s Gavin Caprella (106) and Chase Caprella (132) reached the championship round of their respective weight classes Elder High School. Teammate SeVaughn Carter (138) reached the quarterfinals before losing.

Chase Martin (170) of Delphos St. John’s made it to the semifinals before losing.

Nathan Ditto (132), Mason Vonderwell (152) and Mark Wrasman (160) of DSJ reached the quarterfinals before losing.

The competition is scheduled to conclude Sunday.

COLDWATER — The host Cavaliers and St. Marys finished fourth and fifth respectively in the eight-team event won by Cathedral Preparatory School from Pennsyvania.

St. Marys’ Tommy Mabry went 5-0 on the day.

ELIDA — Biggz Johnson had 19 points and Jay Riepenhoff scored 10 for Lima Central Catholic. Dylan Buetner had 16 ponits and Riley Fricke scored 12 for the host Bulldogs.

ST. HENRY — Josh Thorbahn had 15 points for Ottoville and Ben Evers scored 10 for St. Henry.

LIMA — Jacob Koenig (20), Nick Gable (17) and Ross Niese (12) all scored in double digits for Miller City. Preston Patrick had 24 points for Temple Christian.

ST. MARYS — Tyler Schwieterman had 14 points and five rebounds, Will Broering had 10 points and seven rebounds and

Ethan Post had 10 points and seven rebounds for the visiting Cavaliers. St. Marys’ individual stats were not reported by deadline.

ADA — Brandon Hull had 27 points and Phil Coulson scored 18 for the host Bulldogs. Ewan Martin had 13 points and Nevin Robson scored 12 for Hardin Northern.

ANTWERP — Creed Jessee had 12 points and Landon Price scored 10 for the visiting Lancers.

RUSSIA — Nolan Bornhorst (24), Reece Busse (14) and Patrick Wells (11) each scored in double digits for the visiting Cardinals.

Jared Timmerman had the high game (235) and high series (425) for Fort Recovery. Trent Berkenstock had the high game (212) and tied Hayden Beougher for the high series (405) for Coldwater.

CELINA — Jamie Coats had the high game (187) and Brianna Henning had the high series (344) for the host Bulldogs (11-1) at Plaza Lanes. Shiann Kraft had the high game (170) and series (327) for the Lancers.

Emily Sudhoff had the high game (236) and series (439) for Coldwater. Ashlyn Dilworth had the high game (185) and series (355) for Fort Recovery.


Quad meet

Coldwater (192 points) won the girls team title followed by Celina (178), St. Marys (107) and Fort Loramie (15). St. Marys (196) was the boys team champ followed by Celina (43), Coldwater (25) and Fort Loramie (12).



ADA — Ohio Northern coach Dean Paul announced via Twitter that former Lima Senior coach Andre Griffin has been added to the ONU staff as an assistant who will work with the wide receivers.
