Derryberry named

NWC commissioner

The administrators of the Northwest Conference have announced Jon Derryberry as the league’s next commissioner.

Derryberry will be replacing Jim Raabe, who is resigning the position at the end of the 2019-20 school year.

The owner and president of Derryberry & Davis Insurance Agency in Wapakoneta, Derryberry has 40 years of officiating experience in basketball, 38 years in football and 22 years in softball. The 1973 Wapakoneta High School graduate will begin working with Raabe immediately and will transition into the commissioner position in the fall of the 2020-21 school year.

WAPAKONETA — Nate Roa (120 pounds), Daniel Prieto (132), Jacob Schlesselman (152), Andrew Mosler (160), Ean Kramer (182) and Keith Houser (285) each recorded pins for the host Redskins.

Trent Fairborn (145) and Howie Perkins (170) recorded pins, Joey Hale (195) earned a major decision and Cory Beach (126) was victorious for the Indians.

Spartan Invitational

LIMA — The 31st annual Spartan Wrestling Invitational will be Saturday at Lima Senior High School.

The team list includes: Ada, Antwerp, Bath, Tiffin Calvert, Cory-Rawson, Edgerton Elida, Delphos Jefferson, Liberty-Benton, Lima Senior, Lima Central Catholic, Mechanicsburg, Monroe, Paulding, Lima Shawnee, Spencerville, Delphos St. Johns, St. Marys and Tippecanoe. More than 174 wrestlers are entered.

The format will be an individual pool tournament. Based on criteria, pool winners will advance to placement matches. Competition will begin at 10 a.m. on four mats and continue to the finals around 5 p.m.

Bluffton’s Renner

surpasses 1,000 points

DEFIANCE — Bath graduate Andrew Renner surpassed 1,000 career points in Bluffton’s 68-64 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Wednesday night against Defiance.

Renner had a 22-point effort, giving him 1,007 for his career.
