Roundup: All-NWC honors announced in soccer, volleyball

The Northwest Conference has announced all-conference selections in boys and girls soccer and volleyball.

In boys soccer, Bluffton’s Matt Daws (player of the year) and Steve Smucker (coach of the year) received top honors.

Joining Daws on the first team were Jon Schriner (Bluffton), Malachi Blackman (Allen East), Dylan Schimmoeller (Lincolnview), Isaac Spar (Ada), Simon Derstine (Bluffton), Jacob Poling (Ada), Jack Williams (Allen East), Kolya Pacshall (Paulding), Luke Falke (Spencerville), Skylar Williams (Ada) and Braelin Houston (Allen East).

Second team selections were Jude Spallinger (Bluffton), Clayton Leeth (Lincolnview), Evan Edwards (Paulding), Asher Antrim (Bluffton), Bryce Wilcox (Allen East), Eneko Irabarren (Alle East), Seth Clark (Spencerville), Nic Essinger (Bluffton), Tayton Kleman (Bluffton), Landon Moody (Lincolnview) and Nicholas Kamatali (Ada).

In girls soccer, Bluffton’s Kayla White (player of the year) and Jared Byers (coach of the year) received top recognition.

Joining White on the first team were Kelsey Shaffer (Spencerville), Laykin Garmatter (Bluffton), Julia Meyer (Allen East), Raygen Martinez (Spencerville), Reagan Mittendorf (Bluffton), Ella Poling (Ada), Katie Butterfield (Ada), Katelyn Castle (Crestview), Olivia Silone (Allen East), Emily Dientsberger (Delphos Jefferson) and Brenna Hissong (Ada).

Second team honors went to Tori Newland (Allen East), Olivia Setzer (Bluffton), Brinkley Garmatter (Bluffton), Chelsey Bullinger (Paulding), Jenna Litsey (Spencerville), Emma Leis (Spencerville), Noel Warnement (Delphos Jefferson), Macy Kulwicki (Crestview), Madalyn Ward (Crestview), Sophia Smucker (Bluffton) and Morgan Iler (Paulding).

Lincolnview’s Madison Williams (player of the year) and JaNahn Evans (coach of the year) received top volleyball honors.

Joining Williams on the first team were Lexi Gregory (Crestview), Kendall Bollenbacher (Lincolnview), Kylie Stackhouse (Bluffton), Megan Light (Ada), Anamya Truex (Allen East), Bailey Gregory (Crestview) and Becca Choi (Columbus Grove).

Second team selections were Brianna Ebel (Lincolnview), Sadie Estle (Paulding), Taylor Schwab (Bluffton), Kristin Whitley (Allen East), Nelaya Burden (Spencerville), Delaney Deuel (Delphos Jefferon) and Courtney Teman (Delphos Jefferson).

SPENCERVILLE — Spencerville will play at noon Saturday against Kalida after winning in sudden death overtime. Clayton Leeth had Lincolnview’s goal on an assist by Landon Moody. Spencerville’s goal scorers were not reported by deadline.

LCC 4, New Knoxville 1

LIMA — Lima Central Catholic will play at 3 p.m. Saturday against Temple Christian at Spartan Stadium. LCC’s Josiah Simpson, Colin Guagenti, Brayden Truex and Michael Taflinger and New Knoxville’s Patrick Covert each had a goal.

Miller City 5, Paulding 0

MILLER CITY — Brent Verhoff had two goals, Nick Gable, Mason Rieman and Daniel Siebeneck each had one tally and Ezra Deitering had three assists. Joseph Deitering made two saves to get the shutout in goal. Miller City will play at 3 p.m. Saturday against Ottoville.

Allen East 2, Fort Jennings 0

CONTINENTAL — Allen East will play at 3 p.m. Saturday against Continental. Braelin Houston and Aiden Robey each had a goal and Bryce Wilcox and Malachi Blackma each had an assists. Fort Jennings goalie Chase Neidert made 15 saves.

Division I

Bowling Green 3, Lima Senior 0

BOWLING GREEN — The Spartans fell 25-12, 25-18, 29-27. Lexi Williams had five kills, Sophie Jolliff, Cheyanne Bean and Mya Redd each had five kills, Lauren Zell had 21 assists and eight digs and Mya Redd had eight digs for Lima Senior.

Division III

Coldwater 3, Elmwood 0

COLDWATER — The Cavaliers won 25-9, 25-5, 25-3 and will play Riverdale at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Lauren Gilliland had 12 aces, five bock assists and 15 kills, Jenna Leugers had six kills, Katie Alig had 12 digs and Annelise Harlamert had 24 assists for Coldwater.

Ottawa-Glandorf 3, Delta 0

OTTAWA — The Titans won 25-5, 25-9, 25-20. Taylor Alt had 12 kills and four aces, Lexi Fortman had four aces, Claire Eiden had 14 digs and four aces, Erica Annesser had six kills, Brianna Schimoeller had 26 assists and Erin Kaufman had nine kills for Ottawa-Glandorf, which will play at 5:30 p.m. Saturday against Paulding.

Men’s soccer

Earlham College 1, Bluffton 0

RICHMOND, Ind. — The Beavers dropped to 5-9 (0-4 HCAC) on the season, while Earlham improved to 2-9-2 (1-3 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference).

Tanner Newport had four saves in goal for Bluffton.

Ohio Northern 1

WILMINGTON — Levi King had the goal for ONU (11-2-2, 3-0-1 Ohio Athletic Conference)

Women’s soccer

Bluffton 2, Earlham College 1

BLUFFTON — The Beavers improved to 5-8 (2-2 HCAC) on the season, while Earlham dropped to 7-6 (0-4 HCAC).

Maddie Huffman and Lima Senior grad Tajah Upshaw each had a goal for Bluffton. Teammate Jules Frazier made 16 saves in goal.

Ohio Northern 2,

Wilmington 0

ADA — Rose Nienaber and Siena Ward each had a goal for ONU (10-2-2, 4-0 Ohio Athletic Conference). Meagan Grierson got the shutout in goal.

Volleyball

Bluffton 3, Mt. St. Joseph 1

BLUFFTON — The Beavers (5-18, 1-3 HCAC) won 30-28, 25-23, 21-25, 25-14. Remi Bower had 24 kills and 16 digs, Sarah Heydinger had 14 kills, Carley Lester had 11 kills, Ottawa-Glandorf grad Brooke Kleman had 27 digs and Maddie White had 53 assists and 16 digs for Bluffton.
