Lima area sports calendar


Each week, The Lima News publishes a calendar of events of local interest. Events should be submitted by noon Wednesday of each week to The Lima News.

ARCHERY

Allen County: The Allen County Archers are holding open 3-D shoots the first Saturday and Sunday each month through September. They are open to all archery equipment. The club also holds traditional 3-D shoots on the third Saturday of the month all year long.

Columbus Grove: Columbus Grove Archery Club memberships are available. For info call Tom Frick at 419-384-3033.

BASKETBALL

Lima: The Lima YMCA is registering teams for the 3 on 3 men’s basketball league for individuals 18 and older. Registration runs through Oct. 22 with a fee of $50 per player or $300 per team. The league begins Oct. 22 and will be played every Thursday at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.

CYCLING

Fryburg: The fifth annual 25 mile mock turtle bike ride will be held Saturday, Aug. 31. Registration is at 7 a.m. and the race begins at 8 a.m. For more information contact Diane Davis at DDavis@alandavisinsurance.com or register at cantstoprunningco.com.

FOOTBALL

The Bath Parents Sports Club is accepting registrations for the 2019 flag football season for boys K through second, and third-fourth. Sign-up forms will be available through the elementary the first week of school or on Facebook. Registrations may be mailed or turned in from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept 4, and Thursday, Sept. 5, in the Bath Community Rooms. The deadline to register is Saturday, Sept 7. Wapakoneta: The third annual Wapakoneta Football Alumni Weekend Aug. 29-30. On Thursday, chalk talk with Coach Travis Moyer with guest speaker Kyle Stroh (class of 1987) and a team dinner will be held beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the Wapakoneta High School cafeteria. Cost is $30. Deadline to rsvp was Aug. 23. On Friday, alumni will receive a sideline pass and recognition at the Redskins opener against Bellefontaine. The cost is $7 and includes a ticket to the game.

HORSESHOES

Lima: The Allen County Horseshoe Pitchers, located at 1815 C St., have openings in leagues and doubles. Open doubles begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturdays. Corn hole leagues are forming. KARATE

Lima: The Lima Family YMCA is holding a karate program from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The fee is $30 for members and $60 for nonmembers.

KICKBOXING

Lima: At 7:30 p.m Tuesdays and Thursdays, Apex Sports Zone will have classes for adults and those 14 and older. Go to lima.apexsportszone.com/kickboxing.

PICKLEBALL

Lima: Pickleball is played at Bradfield Center from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. All skill levels are welcome.

Lima: The Lima YMCA is holding open pickleball play from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday (appointment only). Free for YMCA members and $3 per visit for nonmembers or $20 per month for nonmembers (unlimited play). Individuals can register online at limaymca.net.

Bluffton: The Bluffton Family Recreation will be offering pickleball from 8:30-10:30 a.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays and from 8:30-10:30a.m. and 5-7 p.m. Thursdays.

RUN/WALK

Fryburg: The 10th annual 5k mock turtle walk/run will be held Saturday, Aug. 31. Registration is at 7 a.m. and the race begins at 8 a.m. For more information contact Diane Davis at DDavis@alandavisinsurance.com or register at cantstoprunningco.com.

Delphos: The Delphos Canal Days 5K run/walk will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22 Race entry includes placer kiosk at the finish line, chip timing, dri-fit shirt (if pre-registered by Sept. 15) and finisher photos. Run along the historic Miami-Erie Canal on a flat course filled with interesting facts about the waterway. Register on-line at Itsyourrace.com or visit the Delphos Canal Days website for a downloadable registration form. Race day registration is also available starting at 8 a.m. in front of the Rustic on Second Street.

SOCCER

Lima: The Lima YMCA is registering individuals for the Youth Soccer League. Registration runs through Sept. 21 and runs to Oct. 26 for individuals in grades 4-6. The fee is $25 for members and $50 for non members.

SWIMMING

Lima: The Lima YMCA Barracudas Swim Team will be offering swim lessons beginning Sept. 9 and running until April. The fee is $250 and $165 for high school students.

The Lima YMCA Barracudas will hold a swim team parent informational meeting at the Y at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, and at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, Try-out sessions for new swimmers will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 4 and 7 p.m. Sept. 5 where evaluations will be done by the coaches to determine the proper practice group for the season. Swimmers must be able to swim the length of the pool. Per National YMCA rules, swimmers must have a current membership at the Lima Family YMCA throughout the duration of the swim season.

The Lima YMCA Barracuda will be holding “5 Fundamentals of Fast Racing” at 1 p.m. Sept. 21. The fees for members is $100 and $125 for non members. Swim international level swimmer Erik Risolvato has been invited to teach his “5 Fundamentals of Fast Racing” swim clinic. This clinic will cover starts, turns, under waters breakouts and finishes along with some out of water focuses to help maximize swimming performance. TRAPSHOOTING

Lima: The Lima Sabres have various shooting events. Thursday Trap Practice for Adults/Juniors/Beginners is 4 p.m. weekly. Wednesday morning Adult Trap Practice is 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. weekly, weather permitting. All trap sessions are open to the public. WRESTLING

Lima: WAR Wrestling 2 presents Freedom Fight at the Bradfield Community Center on Sept. 7. All first responders get in free. Advance tickets already on sale at www.warwrestling.com or Groamy’s CD’s and Tapes or Alter Ego Comics. $15 VIP or $8 general admission. At the door prices will be $12 general admission & $18 reserved VIP. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for first responders and VIP ticket holders, 6:30 p.m. for general admission with wrestling starting at 7 p.m.
