Elida wins 18-team boys golf invitational

CELINA — Elida won the 18-team Celina Invitational on Thursday.

The Bulldogs finished with a 318 total at the par-72 Celina Lynx Golf Club. Findlay was second with a 335 score. Delphos St. John’s won a fifth-score tiebreaker for third place against Coldwater and St. Marys after the trio tied at 338.

Elida’s Carson Harmon was medalist with a 75, one stroke ahead of teammate Ethan Harmon. Coldwater’s Nathan Kaiser (77) and St. Marys’ Austin Boley (78) were third and fourth respectively. Jared Lucas won the scorecard tiebreaker after shooting a 79 along with Kalida’s Ryan Klausing and Ottawa-Glandorf’s Carter Schimmoeller.

NWC tri match

DEFIANCE — Paulding (177) had the low score against Columbus Grove and Lincolnview, which each shot 180, in a Northwest Conference matchup at par-36 Auglaize Golf Club.

Kolson Egnor, who tied CG’s Owen Macke for medalist honors with a 39, Noah Pessefall (45), Kyle Dominique (46) and Kyle Harris (47) combined for the winning total. Evan Miller (41) had the low round for Lincolnview, which lost the fifth-score tiebreaker to Grove.

Minster 149, Parkway 169

MINSTER — Medalist Joseph Magoto (35), Ethan Lehmkuhl (37), Grant Voisard (37) and Grant Koenig (40) combined for the winning total. Adam Ballas (38) had Parkway’s low score.

Girls tennis

Greenville 4, St. Marys 1

GREENVILLE — Allie Vanderhorst won 6-4, 6-3 in first singles for St. Marys.


Recker steps down

as Kalida head coach

KALIDA — Coach Joe Recker has announced his resignation after six years as the head varsity baseball coach at Kalida High School.

During his run, Kalida amassed a record of 99-47 that included the last four Putnam County League titles, two district championships and a pair of regional runner-up appearances in 2016 and 2019.

“When I took this job my number one goal was to win ballgames, but I tried to teach a few life lessons,” Recker posted on @JoeRecker2 on Twitter. “I hope that I have accomplished that. I have been truly blessed to coach in a community where core values are still being taught every day. The friendships that I have developed in baseball with coaches, umpires and the media are very special to me and will always be treasured.”

Tigers call up

DETROIT — The Tigers have called up former University of Northwestern Ohio pitcher John Schreiber.

The 15th round MLB Draft pick in 2016 had been playing for Triple-A Toledo, where he had a 2.83 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 47 2/3 innings.

After transferring in from Henry Ford Community College,Schreiber compiled a record of 11-4 with an ERA of 2.30 in 97.2 innings of work in his three seasons at UNOH. In more than 62 appearances, Schreiber had 24 saves, racked up 116 strikeouts and issued 36 walks. As a junior in 2015, Schreiber set a UNOH single season record with 14 saves, and he followed that up with nine more as a senior in 2016. During those two seasons, Schreiber held opponents to a batting average of .140.

season tickets

LIMA — Lima Senior season tickets are on sale now in the athletic department.

Reserved seating is $40 per pass, general admission is $35 per pass. All passes sold will include entry to all six varsity home games, including the Aug. 29 varsity encounter against Lima Central Catholic at Spartan Stadium.

Presale tickets for the Spartans vs. LCC game will go on sale Aug. 19. Ticket prices are $9 reserved, $8 adults and $6 students.

Ticket sales will be from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. except for Saturday, Aug. 24, Sunday, Aug. 25, and Thursday, Aug. 29.

The sales schedule is as follows:

Aug. 19: Season tickets holders, players/parents, cheerleaders/parents, LCS staff, & coaches
