2018 postseason: Sixth at Colonial Golfers Club sectional;

Coach’s analysis: We are a very young team. I like our senior leadership, and I believe our team will work hard and improve through the year. The fact that Spencerville will not be having a team this year means that any team in the NWC has a chance to come out on top. I’m looking forward to a very competitive league this coming year.

Spencerville

2018 NWC finish: First overall, 15-1 in conference matches, first in NWC tournament.

2018 postseason: First at Division III Colonial Golfers Club sectional; fourth at Stone Ridge district; tied for eighth at state held at Northstar Golf Club in Sunbury.

2018 WBL finish: 10th overall, 0-9 in league matches, 10th in WBL tournament.

2018 postseason: Eighth at Colonial Golfers Club sectional (Britton Hall advanced as individual); Hall advanced to state at Red Hawk Run Golf Course district with second-place finish; he finished tied for 53rd at state held at the Ohio State Golf Club’s Scarlet Course.

Coach’s analysis: Our goal is improve on last year. We have a very young team and to be competitive in each match would be huge for us. If we stay focused on ourselves and get better each day with our young team it will set us on a path for future success. Obviously, it’s not secret what Britton Hall accomplished last season as a freshman. As long as he keeps his mind clear and just focuses on this year, not last, there is no reason he shouldn’t be able to accomplish the same if not more and hopefully the guys around him can help out with some good golf and keep us competive this year.

Coach’s analysis: The Bulldogs return a nice nucleus from last year with four returning letterman. The obvious big improvement this year will be the addition of the Harmon brothers. Our program is very excited to have them join us. It puts us in a position to challenge the area at every level. The competition between the returning starters and the Harmons will make everyone better. Former Spencerville head coach Mike Harmon will be part of our coaching staff as well. Mike played for Coach Thompson back in his earlier days.

Marion Local

Division III

Coach: David Koenig (sixth season)

Returning letter winners: Damon Moeller, sr.; Bryce Moeller, sr.; Alex Hemmelgarn, sr.; Logan Fleck, jr.

2018 MAC finish: Tied for seventh overall, 2-7 in conference matches, seventh in MAC tournament.

2018 postseason: 13th at Colonial Golfers Club sectional.

Coach’s analysis: This season could be one for different lineups and hopefully finding the right combination of golfers for the season. Marion’s golf program has grown from my first season of 10 golfers now into 26 golfers. We have four seniors and seven freshmen with a mix of 15 juniors and sophomores. Although numbers are a nice thing to have it does make it hard to get everyone into matches or even out to golf. Many courses have leagues along with regular customers coming out to golf. Also, I know a lot of other programs don’t have as many golfers, so this makes it difficult to schedule JV matches for more playing time. The underclassmen and none varsity players really need to make it out when we are having matches so they can hit the driving range and the course so they can improve their game for now and in the future. I am hopeful that this season will bring good competition amongst our team and will drive Marion Local golf to its highest potential.

Minster

Division III

Coach: Jim Stubbs

Returning letter winners: Grant Voisard, sr.; Grant Koenig, sr.; Ethan Lehmkuhl, sr.; Joseph Magoto, jr.; Jacob Wissman, sr.

2018 MAC finish: First overall, 9-0 in conference matches, first in MAC tournament.

2018 postseason: Second at Colonial Golfers Club sectional; first at Stone Ridge district; eighth at state held at Northstar Golf Club in Sunbury.

Coach’s analysis: We are looking to build on the success from last season, which included a league championship, district championship and a finish in the top 10 in the state in D-III. We are returning five varsity players and a lot of experience this season. We also have a nice influx of younger players, with five new freshmen on a 20 man roster this year. The guys have been working hard all summer and are excited to get started.

New Bremen

Division III

Coach: John Roberts (first season)

Returning letter winners: Preston Hoehn, jr.; Devon Thieman, sr.; Mitchell Moeller, sr.; Jared Bergman, jr.

Other possible varsity performers: Cole Hamberg, soph.; Warren Gregg, soph.; Josh Bensman, soph.; Tyler Paul, soph.; Blake Terpstra, soph.; Blake Suchland, fr.; Alex Homan, fr.

2018 MAC finish: 10th overall, 2-7 in conference matches, 10th in MAC tournament.

2018 postseason: 12th at Colonial Golfers Club sectional.

Coach’s analysis: In my first year as New Bremen’s boys golf coach, I just want to improve every week. At the end of the year I would consider it a success if we had fun and improved not only as individuals but as a team also.

New Knoxville

Division III

2018 MAC finish: Tied for seventh overall, 1-8 in conference matches, sixth in MAC tournament.

2018 postseason: 11th at Colonial Golfers Club sectional.

Coach’s analysis: Losing Sam Anspach was a big blow, but still hoping to compete in the MAC and win as many matches as we can. Always looking to improve each and every day. Hope to be playing our best golf come conference and sectional tournament time.

Parkway

Division III

Coach: Joe Falk (eighth season)

2018 MAC finish: Ninth overall, 1-8 in conference matches, eighth in MAC conference.

2018 postseason: Ninth at Colonial Golfers Club sectional (Mason Baxter advanced as individual).

Coach’s analysis: While we are a fairly young team with only one senior, most of our juniors and sophomores gained valuable varsity experience last year. I have seen a great deal of improvement in some of our golfers who I worked with this summer and am hopeful that we will be competitive in our matches this year and that our scores should improve from last year.

St. Henry

Division III

Coach: John Dorner (seventh season coaching boys team)

Returning letter winners: Reed Koesters, sr.; Andrew Mescher, sr.; Sam Koesters, soph..

2018 postseason: Seventh at Sycamore Springs sectional;

Coach’s analysis: We have all six players back from last year’s team. We have plenty of match experience. Overall, we have much bigger goals than we’ve had in the past. We are going to take one day at a time and just focus on improving each day. With consistent practice habits and effort, the wins will eventually come.
