Roundup: More than 2,000 compete in Wapakoneta races

WAPAKONETA — Daniel Noonan from Worthington won the 10k race and Columbus Grove’s Carson Closson was the 5k winner in Saturday’s Run to the Moon which drew more than 2,000 participants.

Abraham Kiplagat from Richlands, Va., Carey’s Trevor Cook, Nicholas Sheridan from The Plains and Maumee’s Matt Lucas finished second through fifth in the 10k event, according to results posted online. New Knoxville’s Krissy Knerr was the top women’s finisher in the 10k. She was sixth overall.

Lima’s Kaleb Egri, Copley’s Michele Hyland, who was the first woman across to finish, Wapakoneta’s Dan Reichenbach and Lima’s Trevor Bowers were second through fifth in the 5k race.

Bassitt qualifies

for championships

Ashland University’s Trevor Bassitt, a Bluffton High School graduate, will compete at the USATF Outdoor Championships at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, scheduled for July 25 through 28.

Bassitt, a junior, qualified for the event in the 110- and 400-meter hurdles. Bassitt’s best time in the 110 hurdles is 13.98 seconds. His personal best in the 400 hurdles is 51.39 seconds.

Soap box derby

Results from the All-American event held Saturday in Akron had not been posted by deadline. Katelyn Braun and Audrey Crites had qualified for the competition from the races held last month in Lima.
