BLUFFTON — Crosby Thomas and Madelyn Sterrett of the Bluffton Sardines Swim Team set new records on the first day of the WOAL championships Friday.

Thomas won the boys 6 and younger 25-meter freestyle in 23.37, and Madelyn Sterrett triumphed in the girls 7-8 25 freestyle in 18.05.

Westside Swim and Racket leads in the girls, boys and combined standings.

Other 25 freestyle winners included Shawnee’s Olivia Trueblood (Girls 6 and younger) and Bluffton’s Levin Essinger (boys 7-8).

First-place 50 freestyle winners included Shawnee’s Cece Schaaf (girls 9-10), Ada’s Eli Esguerra (boys 9-10) and Girls 11-12: Lily Baumgartner (girls 11-12) and Carlie Oldfield (girls 13-14), Wapakoneta’s Caleb Wachauf (boys 11-12), Alex Honigford (boys 13-14) and Nathaniel Miller (boys 15 and older) and Westside’s and Grace Beck (girls 15 and older)

Winners in the 100 IM included Ada’s Chloe Kemmere (girls 9-10), Lily Baumgartner (girls 11-12) and Carlie Oldfield (girls 13-14), Bluffton’s Mason Shank (boys 9-10), Wapak’s Caleb Wachauf (boys 11-12) and Alex Honigford (boys 13-14) and Westside’s Payton Meffley (girls 15 and older) and John Briggs (boys 15 and older).

Westside’s Addilynn Baldauf (girls 8 and under) and Bluffton’s Camden Verb (boys 8 and younger) were 25 butterfly champs.

Earning top honors in the 50 butterfly were Shawnee’s Cece Schaaf (girls 9-10) and Paige Brinkman (girls 13-14), Westside’s Andrew Baldauf (boys 9-10) and John Briggs (boys 15 and older), Ada’s Lily Baumgartner (girls 11-12), Wapak’s Caleb Wachauf (boys 11-12) and Paige Schneider (girls 15 and older) and Van Wert’s Jayden Welker.

Bluffton won the girls 8 and younger (Lainey Grandey, Madelyn Sterrett, Lydia Hasting, Evie Boyles) and boys 8 and younger (Ethan Roby, Levin Essinger, Camden Verb, Brayden Warren) 100 medley relays.

In the 200 medley relay, Bluffton won the girls 9-10 (Kari Diller, Klaira Hohenbrink, Joana Candido, Lyla Schneck), boys 9-10 (KJ Hohenbrink, Mason Shank, Kenyan Remy, Owen Armstrong), girls 11-12 (Taylor Hudson, Rory Youngpeter, June Essinger, Jenna Downey), boys 11-12 (Jackson Bowlus, Xavier Diller, Charles Wright, Ethan Hoffman), girls 13-14 (Haley Miller, Allison Diller, Izzy Stechschulte, Ella Armstrong) and boys 13-14 (Riley Verb, Landon Armstrong, CJ McCall, Nolan Hoffman) races and Westside triumphed in the girls 15 and older (Kelsey Fischbach, Kayana Cook, Kaitie Phillips, Grace Beck) and boys 15 and older (Kyle McGuire, Evan Patterson, John Briggs, Benjamin Curl) competition.

Seniors being honored this year include Ada’s Ethan Daniels, Bluffton’s Tanner Pinks. Andrew Bertka, Amanda Speicher and Jordan Siefer, Kenton’s Haley Hunt and Mason Manns, Shawnee’s Madi Gendreau and Lauren Mayers, Sherwood’s Khloe Kaskocsak, Cayla Butler and Jacob Michael, Van Wert’s Noah Arend, Wapak’s Tristan Gesler and Danica Zink and Westside’s Joshua Kuhlman, Madyson Reed, Rachel Russ, Cooper Conley, Brianna Snider, Lily Lewis, Madison Behnke, Grace Zickafoose and Kayana Cook.
