Elida’s Jency Jenkins and Kalida’s Grant Laudick are The Lima News/OSU-Lima Scholar Athletes of the Year for 2019.
Jenkins, with a 3.97 grade point average, is salutatorian at Elida this year. She was the Western Buckeye League’s soccer Player of the Year and first-team All-Ohio this season. She was district Player of the Year and was All-WBL for the second year in a row.
In track she was part of 400-meter relay and 800-meter relay teams which won WBL championships this season and has qualified for regionals in track three years.
She has been a class officer two years, received the Junior Optimist of the Year award and has been academic all-league among her other activities.
Laudick, with a 4.0 grade point average, is a valedictorian at Kalida. He has been first-team and second-team All-Putnam County League in soccer. He was the PCL champion in the 400-meter dash and was on 400-meter and 800-meter relay teams that won at the league meet this year.
He has been a state qualifier in track, was a starter on Kalida’s district runner-up boys basketball team this year and has 11 varsity letters in four sports (soccer, track, basketball, baseball).
Laudick has been class president for four years, participated in the school musical and choir four years, has been in the Cats Who Care service organization and has been a teacher’s aide among his non-sports activities.

Clare Caywood (St. Marys), Tori Dackin (Bath), Adrianna Grothause (Van Wert), Hayley Heitmeyer (Leipsic), Kasey Knippen (Ottoville), Lauren Langhals (Kalida), Meghan Mulcahy (Lima Central Catholic), Katie Prater (Bluffton), Caitlyn Renner (Bath), Averey Rumer (Bluffton), Quinley Schlagbaum (Ottoville), Carlee Siefker (Leipsic), Rylee Sybert (Columbus Grove), Morgan Twining (Lima Senior).
This is the 25th year of The Lima News Scholar Athlete Team, which began in the 1994-95 school year. Ohio State-Lima became a partner in this effort to honor area scholar athletes in 2002.
OSU-Lima offers scholarship money, which can be used on the Lima campus, to the top 30 students selected to the team.
Twenty-two area high schools have had students recognized as Scholar Athlete of the Year by The Lima since 1995.
