Recker named top PCL player

Kalida’s Owen Recker was named the Putnam County League Player of the Year for the second year in a row and Columbus Groves’ Eric Naughton was tabbed Coach of the Year.

Joining Recker on the first team were: Nick Woods, Columbus Grove; Brady Hauenstein, Columbus Grove; Brady Rudesill, Columbus Grove; Blake Elkins, Continental; Trevor Lambert, Kalida; Dylan Schroeder, Leipsic; Cole Rieman, Lepisic; Chase Kuhlman, Miller City; Cole Niese, Miller City.

All-PCL Softball

Columbus Groves’ Danielle Bame was named the PCL Player of the Year and Leipsic’s Shane Hermiller was tabbed as the top PCL coach.

Joining Bame on the first-team were: Joy Stechschulte, Columbus Grove; Madison Zimmerly, Columbus Grove; Autumn Renner, Columbus Grove, Mackenzie Rayle, Continental; Kerri Prowant, Continental; Catelyn Etter, Continental; Hannah Smith, Kalida; Melanie Meyers, Kalida; Makenna Hoyt, Kalida, Hannah Mortimer, Leipsic; Maddie Walther, Leispic.

Baseball

Elida 4, Lima Senior 1

Elida’s Noah Adcock scattered eight hits over seven innings of work while fanning 10 and walking one to record the win. Offensively for the Bulldogs, TJ Whipple went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and a run scored and Brayden Lybarger went 3 for 3 with an RBI. For Lima Senior, Caleb Dugan went 2 for 2 with an RBI.

Van Wert 8, St. Henry 5

ST. HENRY — Van Wert’s Lawson Blackmore wasa 1 for 2 with a home run and Jaxson Amweg, Jake Lautzenheiser and Hayden Maples all scored two runs. For St. Henry, Jay Knapke was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI and Eric Thieman was 3 for 4 with a run scored and Andrew Lange went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.

Defiance 15, Kalida 5

DEFIANCE — Kalida’s Matt Kehres drove in two runs. For Defiance, Blayne Robinson went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Kalida falls to 15-4.

New Bremen 7, Fort Recovery 3

NEW BREMEN — New Bremen’s Zach Bertke went 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored and Justin Tenkman went 1 for 2 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Tyler Overman was 2 for 2 with 2 runs and an RBI. For Fort Recovery, Ryne Post was 2 for 4 with a run.

Ottoville 5, Miller City 3

MILLER CITY — Ottoville’s Brice Schroeder scattered six hits over seven innings while fanning six and walking none. Offensively for the Big Green, Jack Langhals and Jaden Schnipke both went 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI. Carson Miller drove in three runs. For Miller City, Nick Gave went 1 for 3 with a run and an RBI.
