Roundup: Lima Senior gets first state tourney win in lacrosse

ADA — The Lima Senior boys lacrosse team won its first tournament game in program history Saturday with a 14-10 win against Johnstown-Monroe at Ohio Northern’s Dial-Robertson Stadium.

Scoring for the Spartans were Cole Mericle with a school record six goals to go with two assists, Deavan Scott (four goals, three assists), Ishmeal Curtis (two goals), Allen Madlock (one goal), and Kyshawn Newell (one goal).

Also picking up assists were Ryan Moore and Aaron Bowsher. Lima Senior will next play Monday night against Columbus St. Francis DeSales in Columbus.

Division I

FINDLAY — Wapakoneta’s Jeffrey Adkins defeated Findlay’s Blake Gray 6-4, 6-1 to win the singles title.

After falling in the semifinals, Wapak’s Doll and Hughes defeated Defiance’s Robert Martinez and Andrew Frederick 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 for third place. Adkins and Doll and Hughes move on to compete in the district which begins Wednesday at Bowling Green State University.

Division II

LIMA — Ada singles player Isaac Spar and the Ottawa-Glandorf doubles team of Carter and Colin Welch won titles.

Spar defeated Ottawa-Glandorf’s Kamron Maag 6-0, 6-2 for the championship and the Welches defeated O-G’s Drew Kuhlman and Parker Schomaeker in the doubles final.

Ada’s Cade Mullins retired in the first set, resulting in teammate Miranda Wills finishing third in singles. Elida’s Jacob Ramirez and Riley Creps topped Van Wert’s Kaden Thomas and Nathan Ruger 6-2, 7-5 in the doubles third-place match.

The top four singles players and doubles teams advance to the district which starts Thursday at Bowling Green State University.

Minster 14, New Knoxville 1

MINSTER — Winning pitcher Logan Tumbusch allowed two hits and two walks while striking out 11 in a five-inning complete game. Jack Heitkamp and Brady Heitkamp each had two hits and two RBI, Jack Olberding, Trent Roetgerman, Jacob Neimeyer and Mike Ketner each had had two hits and an RBI also for the host Wildcats.

Coldwater 0

COLDWATER — Winning pitcher Landon Price and Kemler combined to allow seven hits and a walk while striking out nine in seven innings. Carter had two hits, Youtsey had a triple and three RBI and Jessee had a hit and two RBI also for the visiting Lancers. Austin Riethman and Jake Hemmelgarn each had two hits for the Cavaliers.

Lehman Catholic 7,

Lima Senior 2

SIDNEY — James Gaines had two hits and an RBI and Skyler Williams had a hit and an RBI for Lima Senior.

Ayersville 9,

Allen East 8

AYERSVILLE — Carter Frey had three doubles and an RBI, Travis Wilson had two hits, including a triple, and an RBI, Zach Miller had two hits and an RBI and Dalton Calvert had two hits for Allen East.

Columbus Grove 13,

Continental 0

CONTINENTAL — Winning pitcher Nick Woods allowed five hits and a walk while striking out 10 in five innings. He also had three hits and a walk. Brady Hauenstein had two hits, including a double, and four RBI, Owen Macke and Brady Rudasill each had two hits and an RBI and Alex Schneider had a hit and two RBI also for Grove.

Leipsic 5, Miller City 1

MILLER CITY — Winning pitcher Dylan Schroeder allowed three hits and three walks while striking out five in four innings. Chase Kuhlman had a pair of hits for Miller City.

Softball

O-G drops two

SHERWOOD — Ottawa-Glandorf fell 17-1 and 10-0 to Fairview. Erin Kaufman homered for O-G.

Patrick Henry 5,

Paulding 4

Jalynn Parrett had four hits and two RBI and Asia Arellano had two hits for Paulding.

Track and field

TRAC Championships

TOLEDO — Lima Senior’s Deji’ona Shurelds Simpson won the 200 and 400 and joined Ka’Niyah Stevens, India Benton and Elyse Kelly in winning the 1,600 at Whitmer High School on Friday.
