We need to continue to increase our skill set in all facets of the game and build momentum through each game experience. We expect tight, competitive games this season as a who in the WBL. It is difficult year to project which team will finish on top due to top performers graduating and the competitive nature of our league as a whole. As for Celina, we expect to be able to hold our own each game and have set our minds on being in the top third of the league.

St. Marys

Division: II

2018 record: 4-16

2018 league record: 2-7 (eighth)

Postseason finish: Lost 5-1 in 11 innings to Bath in sectional semifinals.

Coach’s analysis: This year is very different from my last two years. It is a fresh start with a new group of girls. Right now we are focusing on learning each other’s strengths and weaknesses in order to play together and be successful. They may be young but they definitely want to win. This year is definitely focused on the little things. We are aggressive. Hopefully this weather breaks and we can get outside and really see what we can do.

Van Wert

Division: II

Coach: Greg Steinecker (third season)

2018 record: 11-7

2018 league record: 6-3 (tied for fourth)

Postseason finish: Lost 8-5 to Bryan in sectional finals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Alex Metz (sr., shortstop, second base), Olivia Kline (sr., first base, catcher, outfield), Adrianna Grothouse (sr., left field, center field, second base), Drew Kennedy (sr., second base, outfield), Reagan Priest (sr., third base, outfield), Jaden Wagner (sr., first base, outfield), Ashlynn Dicke (sr., third base, outfield), Lauren Moore (jr., center field, shortstop, pitcher), Grace Spoor (jr., catcher, second base, outfield)

Others likely to make varsity roster: Paige Moonshower (jr., pitcher, first base, outfield), Alexandria Parks (jr., catcher, third base, catcher), Hannah Springer (jr., first base, outfield), Jada Buckner (jr., third base, outfield), Olyvia Deam (jr., catcher, second base), Lorynn German (soph., third base, outfield, pitcher), Carlee Young (fr., catcher, utility)

Coach’s analysis: This year’s team will have a mix of experienced players, as well as some new younger players. With several returning letter winners from last season, I feel we have a good foundation to continue to build from. We will have to rely heavily this season on the experience gained from our returning players. Getting quality starts and innings on the mound from our pitchers will be very important. If we can be consistent at the plate with our bats, good things will happen for them. We will need our younger players to step in early and be able to contribute as well. Like every team, if we are able to play solid defense, produce runs, and support our pitchers each day we take the diamond, we will have an opportunity to be successful at the end of the day. The WBL is a solid conference from top to bottom each year, and it will be a challenge each conference game we play.

Wapakoneta

Division: II

Coach: Bill Sammons (15th season)

2018 record: 16-5

2018 league record: 7-2 (tied for second)

Postseason finish: Lost 15-0 to Defiance in district semifinals

Returning 2018 letter winners: Alyssa Camper (sr., outfield); Alex Daum (jr., pitcher); Maddison Doseck (soph., shortstop); Taylor West (soph., first base); Tianna Thompson (soph., catcher).

Others likely to make varsity roster: Allie Wilson (fr., third base, pitcher); Addy Allen (fr., second base, outfield); Katie Lisi (fr., outfield); Kaylie Barnett (soph., outfield)

Coach’s analysis: We are very young. More than half our team does not even have driver licenses. With nine sophomores and freshmen we will have a learning curve but the kids are working hard and improving every day. Our returning pitcher in Alex Daum will be in a leadership role with returning sophomore Taylor West. Maddison Doseck will also be in a leadership role. Our goal this year is like any year. Take every game one pitch at a time and go 100 percent every pitch and let the wins and losses take care of themselves.

Northwest Conference

Ada

Division: IV

Coach: Rebecca Dicke (first season)

2018 record: 16-8

2018 conference record: 5-3 (tied for fourth)

Postseason finish: Lost 3-2 in regional semifinals to Tinora in eight innings.

Coach’s analysis: Ada returns a solid core of girls from last year’s successful team but is looking at underclassmen to fill the holes of the graduated seniors. Leona Dalton will hold the main responsibilities in the circle. We are solid, but inexperienced talent in sophomore and freshman class will need to be developed.

Allen East

Division: III

Coach: Paul Patton (second season)

2018 record: 15-13

2018 conference record: 2-6 (seventh)

Postseason finish: Lost 19-6 to Fairview in sectional finals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Olivia Lawrence (sr., shortstop, pitcher); Lakin Basham (sr., catcher, outfield); Summer McCloskey (sr., third base); Sydney Miller (sr., first base); Gracie Young (sr., outfield); Alivia Craig (soph., outfield); Emma Moritz (soph., pitcher, shortstop); Kristin Whitley (soph., second base, outfield)

Bluffton

Division: IV

Tony Rumer (seventh season)

2018 record: 16-5

2018 conference record: 5-3 (tied for fourth)

Postseason finish: Lost 5-4 to Paulding in sectional finals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Mara Minnig (sr.); Libby Schaadt (jr.), Alivia Koenig (sr.); Brinkley Garmatter (jr.); Katie Prater (sr.); Averey Rumer (sr.); Rebekah Hoff (soph.); Madison Fleece (jr.).

Others likely to make varsity roster: Bailey Edwards (sr.); Riley Busch (fr.); Grace Myers (soph.); Sophie Bricker (fr.); Haelyn Bischoff (fr.); Rebekah HOff (soph.); Kennedi Jordan (soph.); Lauren Swartzlander (fr.); Erin Cunningham (soph.)

Coach’s analysis: with a nice nucleus of returning players, we feel we should be very competitive this year. We will need to count on a double of unexpected girls to step up their game. The bottom line is we are excited to get going.

Columbus Grove

Division: IV

Coach: Travis Gallmeier (sixth season)

2018 record: 18-5

2018 conference record: 4-4 (sixth) in NWC; 6-0 first in Putnam County League

Postseason finish: Lost 8-2 to Ada in district finals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Danielle Bame (sr., catcher); Joy Stechschulte (sr., outfield); Jenna Hardeman (sr., outfield, pitcher); Emily Watt (jr., outfield, third base); Angel Schneider (jr., first base); Autumn Renner (jr., designated hitter, shortstop); Cheyenne Mershman (soph., pitcher).

Promising newcomers: Libby Stringfield (sr.); Lauren Diehl (jr.); Grace Selhorst (soph.); Lyric Dickey (soph.); Emma Renner (fr.); Kam Utendorf (fr.); Kenzie King (fr.); Madison Zimmerly (fr.).

Coach’s analysis: We return six starters from last year’s district runner up team. We will need to have some girls step up into some important positions. We look to defend our PCL title, be competitive in the NWC, and continue our tournament success at the end of the year. Our strengths this season will be at the plate and our defense.

Crestview

Division: IV

Coach: Carl Etzler (four years)

2018 record: 16-11

2018 conference record: 6-2 (tied for second)

Postseason finish: Lost 9-7 to Liberty-Benton in D-III sectional finals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Codi Miller (sr., outfielder); Avery McCoy (sr., pitcher, first base); Caitlin O’Hagan (sr., second base); Ashley Call (sr., catcher, extra hitter); Oliviia Skelton (sr., outfield); Haley Speith (sr., outfielder); Lexi Gregory (jr., shortstop); Hannah Binion (jr., third base, catcher); Kali Small (soph., pitcher, infielder).

Promising newcomer: Aleigh Chesbro (jr., pitcher, outfielder); Bailey Gregory (soph., infielder, outfielder); Olivia Cunningham (soph., first base, outfielder); Breena Grace (soph., catcher).

Coach’s analysis: We will rely on sophomore pitching. We have various girls who are working hard to become better. We will have a balanced experienced hitting lineup. We should have solid hitters in the middle of the lineup to drive in runs if the top of the order can set the table. We must stay free of injuries. Limit both the physical and mental mistakes. We will rely on sophomore pitching. We have various girls who are working hard to become better. We will have a balanced experienced hitting lineup. We should have solid hitters in the middle of the lineup to drive in runs if the top of the order can set the table. We must stay free of injuries. Limit both the physical and mental mistakes. We will be inexperienced on the varsity level in some key defensive positions. We will be moving girls this season into positions that they had not played previously. We will depend on how strong our overall athleticism will be while playing some underclassmen. We must play hard on the defensive end due to lack of experience in key positions. We must not beat ourselves and keep mistakes to a minimum. We will need strong team leadership from our veterans and our pitching will need to rise to the occasion and challenge opposing hitters. We must “dictate the plate,” put the ball in play and force the opponents into mistakes using our team speed and athleticism.

Delphos Jefferson

Division: IV

Coach: Michelle Schuerman (second season)

2018 conference record: 0-8 (ninth)

Postseason finish: Lost 15-9 to Paulding in D-III sectional semifinals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Noel Warnement (soph., first base, shortstop); Audrey North (jr., pitcher, shortstop, third base); Jayla Rostorfer (jr., center field); Anna Fitch (soph., catcher, third base, second base, outfield); Rileigh Rahrig (jr., outfield, second base); Skye Stevenson (sr., outfield, first base); Kylie Gossett (sr., second base, outfield); Michelle Rode (sr., shortstop, first base); Ally Hasting (sr., shortstop, third base, catcher).

Others likely to make varsity roster: Aly Lindeman (fr., pitcher, first base); Jenna Rode (fr., catcher, third base, outfield); Kendal Schrader (fr., pitcher, second base, outfield); Maddie Weitzel (fr., third base, outfield)

Coach’s analysis: We did not lose any of our starters from last year, and we gained some pitchers and some more talent in the freshman class. The returning girls have been working hard to improve their game, mentally and physically. I have the utmost confidence in every one of these girls and their ability to come out with more wins than last. For me, winning isn’t everything. I want the girls to improve everyday and have fun doing it. Softball isn’t just about going to practice and playing games, it’s about so much more. Such as teaching the girls about commitment, responsibility, loyalty, trust and so much more. When I first took this position, my goal was to build from the ground up, each year get a little better and advance the skills here at Delphos Jefferson and teach the girls that the game isn’t about just hit the ball and run. Teach them ways to advance and be able to compete with our competitors. We are coming up and getting better day by day and I can’t wait for a great season.

Lincolnview

Division: IV

Coach: Brad Doidge (12th season)

2018 record: 9-13

2018 conference record: 1-7 (eighth)

Postseason finish: Lost 8-1 to Columbus Grove in district semifinals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Amy Beair (sr.); Morgan Miller (sr.); Lakin Brant (sr.); Carly Wendel (sr.); Tori Boyd (jr.); Destiny Coil (soph.); Winter Boroff (soph.); Annie Mendenhall (soph.)

Coach’s analysis: With experience, we would like to compete for the NWC crown. The team must play consistent to be competitive with Bluffton, Crestview, Ada, Paulding as well as all the other teams in the conference. We want to host a tournament game during the postseason.

Paulding

Division: III

Coach: Matt Carr (seventh season)

2018 record: 14-7

2018 conference record: 6-2 (tied for second)

Postseason finish: Lost 11-5 to Fairview in district semifinals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Haylee Dominique (sr., first base, pitcher); Asia Arellano (sr., outfield); Jen Stahl (sr., catcher); Ashlynn Rice (sr., infield); Mallory Taylor (sr., pitcher, utility); Jalynn Parrett (soph., outfield); Leigha Egnor (soph., infield); Gabbie Stallbaum (soph., infield).

Promising newcomers: Kaeli Bustos (soph., catcher, infield); Morgan Iler (soph., outfield); Kaela Lucas (jr., utility); Sam Wagner (jr., outfield); Jen Trausch (jr., outfield).

Coach’s analysis: We bring back eight players that played varsity for us last season. We hope the experience we have will be a strength for us. Our lineup should be solid one through nine and be able to produce runs this year. We have great senior leadership who lead both vocally and by example. We need to be more consistent on defense and continue to work to get better every day. We have to continue to focus on the small things that can have a big impact in a game. We are hoping that our pitchers will step up as we lose our primary starter from the last three years. We are also hoping to be in the mix for a league title.

Spencerville

Division: III

Coach: Lori Schwartz (first season)

2018 record: 14-9

2018 conference record: 7-1 (first)

Postseason finish: Lost 8-2 to Bluffton in sectional semifinals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Alissa Sawmiller (jr.); Emily Zak (sr., shortstop, third base); Gracie Butorac (soph., catcher); Mackenzie Brown (soph., pitcher); Krista Market (soph.).

Others on varsity roster: Tory Higbie (fr.); Hayley Cobb (sr.); Olivia Reed (fr.); Taylor Hobbs (jr.); Alyssa Mertz (soph.); Mallory Orick (fr., pitcher); Maise Layman (fr.); Victoria Shaw (soph.); Matteson Fair-Sevitz (jr., catcher); Sierra Baumgartner (fr.); Shayna Russell (fr.); Brianna Regedanz (soph.); Evelyn Meyer (fr.); Maddy Layman (fr.).

Coach’s analysis: The Bearcats were the 2018 NWC champs with a 7-1 conference record and 14-9 overall record. This was the first NWC softball championship for Spencerville. Six players, five of them starters since their freshman year, graduated off of that championship team. In 2019, the Bearcats are very young and only five of the 19 players are returning letter winners: Senior Emily Zak – three time letter winner; junior, Alissa Sawmiller – one letter; sophomore, Mackenzie Brown – one letter; sophomore, Gracie Butorac – one letter; and sophomore, Krista Market – one letter. Even though we are very young, we have nice talent coming up to fill in the open spots and look to be competitive this year.

Putnam County League

Continental

Division: IV

Coaches: Jordan Streicher and Leva Aquirre

2018 record: 9-9

Returning 2018 letter winners: Jessia Stauffer (sr., shortstop); Kennedy Hiltner (jr., catcher); Kerri Prowant (jr., infield, outfield); Riley Fenter (sr., infield, pitcher); Mackenzie Rayle (jr., center field); Madison Burke (soph., infield); Madelyn Potts (soph. utility); Catelyn Etter (soph., outfield, infield); Macy Collier (jr., utility); Madi Sharp (sr., infield)

Promising newcomers: Tygre Troyer (soph., pitcher); Gracee Averesch (fr., outfield); Joelynn Averesch (soph., infield); Nakesha Dickerson (soph., utility); Jalesa Adams (fr., infield).

Coach’s analysis: We should be very good defensively and be an extremely fast and athletic team. We lost our four-year starter in the circle. She will be very tough to replace. I feel we should be a very competitive team this year as long as we can get consistent pitching. The PCL should be very even this year with a number of teams fighting for the title.

Kalida

Division: IV

Coach: Randy Buss (second season)

2018 record: 5-14

2018 league record: 2-4 (fifth)

Postseason finish: Lost 8-7 to Continental in sectional semifinals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Hannah Smith (sr., outfield, third base); Makenna Hoyt (sr., second base); Sami Backus (sr., outfield); Ella Kaufman (jr., outfield); Delaney Vorst (jr., outfield, second base); Emily Buss (soph., pitcher, shortstop); Melanie Meyers (soph., catcher); Mya Schmitz (soph., outfield)

Promising Newcomers: Katelyn Kahle (soph., shortstop); Brooke Siefker (soph., first base); Allie Hoyt (fr., outfield, infield); Molly Westrick (pitcher, first base, outfield, catcher)

Coach’s analysis: Team strengths are solid pitching and hitting. Team must overcome inexperience in key positions and lack of roster depth. We are looking forward to improving in each game and hopefully competing for the PCL championship.

Leipsic

Division: IV

Coach: Shane Hermiller (first season)

2018 record: 3-3 (fourth) in PCL; 6-5 (tied for seventh) in Blanchard Valley Conference.

2018 league record: 9-14

Postseason finish: Lost 2-0 to Lincolnview in sectional finals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Bailee Sickmiller (sr., shortstop, pitcher); Jala Hazelton (sr., third base); Kacey Dulle (sr., first base, shortstop); Caitlen Flick (soph., second base, pitcher).

Coach’s analysis: Last year’s team had nine seniors, seven of who started. We return four letter winners, two of them started. We have a great group of seniors to lead an inexperienced but athletic young team. Five seniors, no juniors, five sophomores and five freshmen playing this year. With a first-year coach and seven new starters we need to come together quickly. If we do I think we can compete well in both the BVC and PCL.

Miller City

Division: IV

Coach: Michael Oedy

2018 league record: 5-1 (second)

Postseason finish: Lost 22-1 to Wayne Trace in sectional finals.

Others on varsity roster: Daniella Alvear (jr., infield); Madi Ellerbrock (soph., infield, outfield); Adrienne Kuhlman (soph., infield); Maddie Otto (soph., pitcher, infield); Allison Roth (soph., outfield, infield); Isabelle Vance (soph., catcher, infield); Nicole Ellerbrock (fr., catcher, outfield); Aly Michel (fr., outfield); Tessa Oedy (fr., pitcher, infield, outfield).

Coach’s analysis: The is a not a rebuild. As a team we need to be more aggressive. We need to shrink the field and the game.

Ottoville

Division: IV

Coach: Joseph Modica (20 years)

2018 league record: 1-5 (sixth)

Postseason finish: Lost 17-0 to Columbus Grove in sectional finals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Olivia Gamble, Hunter Boecker, Ashley Landin, Hannah Hoehn, Paige Hoersten, Allie Honigford, Kylee Klenz, Brooke Kortokrax, Peyton Wannemacher, Riley Wannemacher.

Prospects: Madison Averesch, Emma Birr, Claire Knotts, Tara Heitmeyer, Alexis Sanders, Rachel Kemper, Gracie Brinkman.

Coach’s analysis: Strengths are hitting, base running and defense. Pitching is coming along but there is always room for improvement. Looking forward to a new season of returning lettermen and ambitious new freshmen.

Pandora-Gilboa

Division: IV

Coach: Rodney Hermiller

2018 league record: 0-6 (seventh) in PCL; 1-10 (11th) in BVC.

Northwest Central Conference

Hardin Northern

Division: IV

Coach: Jessica Mast (fifth season)

2018 record: 10-14

2018 conference record: 4-3 (tied for third)

Postseason finish: Lost 5-1 to Carey in sectional finals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Ashton Dye (sr., infield, outfield); Zoey Curtis (sr., shortstop, second base); Haylie Spearman (soph., infield, pitcher); Maddie Grappy (soph., infield, outfield); Alex Jackson (jr., pitcher, infield, outfield).

Others on varsity roster: Brenna Flowers (fr., pitcher, infield); Eris McCoy (fr., infield, outfield); Paytin Pore (fr., catcher, infield); Gabbi Hackworth (jr., outfield); Hannah Souder (jr., outfield); Cierra Simon (soph., infield, outfield); Audrey Grindell (soph., outfield); Rose McCoy (sr., shortstop, second base);

Coach’s analysis: We are young this season after graduating six seniors, five starters from last year. We are hoping to see leadership from several of our returning letter winners. We feel we can be solid on the mound with returning Haylie Spearman and in addition we add freshman Brenna Flowers. We lost junior Quinn Stewart-Evans to shoulder surgery. When they are not on the mound they add to our infield. We do return one of our top offensive threats from last season in Zoey Curtis. Overall I feel we can be very successful if we maintain a team philosophy and are team centered instead of a group of individuals. Defense and offense could also be a concern this season. We need to focus on producing runs and being aggressive on the bases. We lost our leadoff batter for the second season in a row and true leader on the field in Cass Deckling. We also lost our experience in the infield and on the mound with graduating Shelby Alloway (shortstop and pitcher), Haylei Pees (first base) and Madison Robson behind the plate to graduation. We have returning senior, Zoey Curtis who will see time behind the plate and at third base. To be successful we need boost our team batting average (.376) and fielding percentage (.868). We have a lot of holes to fill to be successful this year and will have to rely on everyone coming together and doing their role to continue the success we are known for. We have a strong group of individual athletes that have really shown a lot in the early practices. We can be very competitive if we can come together as a group and play as a team. With six returning letter winners, five who started on a regular basis for us, we have high hopes. Our infield is returning Zoey Curtis, Maddie Grappy and Haylie Spearman. We return Alex Jackson, who played outfield for us last year. With this experience we are expecting these starters to step up and lead the way. We are adding sophomores Audrey Grindell and Rosie McCoy and freshmen Brenna Flowers, Eris McCoy and Paytin Pore as promising, strong players.

Perry

Division: IV

Coach: Bruce Wilhelm (sixth season)

2018 record: 10-12

2018 conference record: 2-5 (tied for sixth)

Postseason finish: Lost 10-2 to Fort Recovery in sectional finals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Kelsey Wells (sr., pitcher, first base); Arie Munez (sr., first base); Madison Amstutz (sr., outfield); Pierson Lauck (jr., second base, outfield); Alyssa Klett (soph., pitcher, third base, outfield); Anabell Plaugher (soph., pitcher, utility); Lilly Floyd (soph., catcher, shortstop, utility); Ryann Wise (soph., third base, shortstop)

Others likely to make varsity roster: Emma Richards (fr., third base, pitcher, outfield); Jadelyn Ardner (fr., outfield, third base); Makenzie Nichols (fr., catcher, outfield); Jamie Gipson (fr., outfield, first base).

Coach’s analysis: The Commodores will be lacking numbers but should be competitive overall and to be successful must stay healthy because of small roster and lack of depth.

Ridgemont

Division: IV

Coach: Kim Bailey (third season)

2018 record: 10-12

2018 conference record: 2-5 (tied for sixth)

Postseason finish: Lost 14-4 to Parkway in sectional finals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Cassidy Knapp (sr., pitcher); Jackie Ramsey (sr., catcher); Kylie Turner (sr., center field); Nicole Freshcorn (soph., utility)

Others likely to make varsity roster: Every girl has talent on this team and therefore most, if not all, of the girls will at least see playing time in a game on varsity.

Coach’s analysis: As every year, our goal is to beat last year’s record which we have accomplished each year thus far. We have a lot of freshmen that came up this year which has given us a lot of options because everyone on the team is a utility player and can be put in anywhere at any given time. We are looking forward to the pitching this year as freshman Whitney Bailey and senior Cassidy Knapp are the key players on the mound this year. Our hitting has definitely improved compared to last year.

Upper Scioto Valley

Others likely to make varsity roster: Emma Hunsicker (fr., shortstop, pitcher); Avery Sanders (sr., outfield).

Coach’s analysis: Looking to change the culture and build a winning program at USV. We return a lot of experience in some key positions. All but two of our starters are returning from last year and we are looking to gain off of their experience. We have made it a priority to improve every day and better our focus during practice. We want to be competitive in our league and change the outlook of our program.

Coach’s analysis: With two seniors, three sophomores and 11 freshmen, I am using this season to develop these young ladies and create a winning and fundamentally sound softball program. Many of these young ladies have shown great promise, and I am looking forward to seeing them grow this season.

Fort Recovery

Division: IV

Coach: EJ Stephen (second season)

2018 record: 9-13

2018 conference record: 1-6 (seventh)

Postseason finish: Lost 13-0 to Parkway in district semifinals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Hannah Knapke (sr., shortstop); Aleigha Jenkins (sr., first base, outfield); Rachel Thien (jr., third base); Macy Day (jr., outfield, infield); Baile Tebbe (jr., infield, outfield); Brenna Homan (soph., catcher).

Coach’s analysis: I look for us to come out strong this year. We have a few injuries that get us back, but with a strong freshman class we look to win quite a few ballgames. The weather has really played games with us leading up to the season, so our starting lineup could be way different at the end of the season, just depends on how we look on the field.

Minster

Division: IV

Coach: Robb Hemmelgarn (third season)

2018 record: 21-7

2018 conference record: 7-0 (first)

Postseason finish: Lost 5-2 to Parkway in district finals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Taylor Homan (sr.); Karly Richard (sr.); Jenna Poeppelman (sr.); Lindsey Albers (sr.); Danielle Barhorst (sr.); Mara Schmiesing (jr.); Laney Hemmelgarn (jr.); Emily Stubbs (jr.)

Promising newcomers: Kaitlyn Wolf (jr., catcher, utility); Royce Glass (jr., outfield, utility); Alexis Bishop (soph., outfield); Savannah Bergman (fr., catcher)

Coach’s analysis: We are fortunate to return many letter winners from the past two to three seasons and also look to add depth with promising newcomers. Although we return experience, that alone won’t equal success. Our offseason and preseason work and the results of such will go a long way to determine any success in the coming months. The MAC will be strong once again this year and the standard of needing to be ready to play every night. Each MAC team won at least a game last season and all are well-coached with outstanding athletes across the conference.

Coach’s analysis: We have talented players returning, but most will be in different roles than in the past. We expect our players to step up to the opportunities in front of them. Our depth is very good with most of our players capable of playing multiple positions. We should be in the running for the MAC title and hope for another long tournament run.

We have back three seniors (Olivia Winner, Carleigh Deitsch and Taylor Rammel) and one junior (Alexxes Phillips). Otherwide, we have some players who will be moving to new positions this season. We have four pitching options to go to this senior with Deitsch likely to be our starter and Alan Siefring, Sydney Schwieterman and Dana Rindler, who will all get some time in the circle as well. Grace will be sing a lot of playing time at catcher. Rammel, Phillips, Deitsch and Schwieterman will be seeing playing time in our infield. 2018 record: 3-17

2018 conference record: 3-8 (ninth) in BVC

Postseason finish: Lost 13-1 to Arlington in sectional semifinals.

Coach’s analysis: We have a strong junior class that I expect to lead the tea. Captain Taylor Born hold three school records and was Blanchard Valley Conference honorable mention. She is on track to add more record to her name this season. Captain Sami Roth is returning after an injury last season. Her pitching is stronger than I’ve ever seen her. Captain Riley Garmatter is an overall leader that brings so much to the field everytime. Lauren Clifford is a transfer from Liberty-Benton that has found her way to a starting position. With one one senior and nine underclassmen we are a very young team with lots of talen and potential to grow so much this season.

Lima Central Catholic

Division: IV

Coach: Jeff Smith (fifth season)

2018 record: 6-11

Postseason finish: Lost 6-3 to Perry in sectional semifinals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Josie Mohler (sr., catcher); Victoria Lauck (jr., shortstop, second base); Hannah Riepenhoff (jr., first base, outfield); Sophia Santaguida (jr., second base, outfield); Kennedy Parker (soph., third base); Abby Watkins (soph., pitcher, outfield); Sophia Luchini (soph., outfield).

Lima Senior

Division: I

Coach: Robb Nelson (second season)

2018 record: 4-24

2018 conference record: 0-14 (eighth) in Three Rivers Athletic Conference

Postseason finish: Lost 14-0 to Perrysburg in sectional finals.

Returning 2018 letter winners: Riley Davenport (sr., pitcher, infield); Morgan Twining (sr., catcher); Lauren Zell (sr., infield); Cheyenne Bean (soph., utility); Alivea Buchanan (soph., utility, pitcher); Kiara Daniel (sr., outfield); Jenna Wentling (jr., infield).

Others likely to make varsity roster: Els Nelson (fr., outfield, pitcher); Kenzi Showalter (jr., utility, pitcher); Taylor Talbert (soph., utility)

Coach’s analysis: Lima Senior is moving in the right direction and you can see that throughout the entire organization down through T-ball, where a number of the young softball players cut their teeth. After winning more games last year than in the previous four years combined, the Spartans are working hard, learning how to win and how to manage high expectations for themselves on and off the field. The squad is optimistic that it will be more competitive in a very difficult TRAC conference. The Lady Spartans mantra this year: #makeyourfate is indicative of a group of urban student-athletes that wish to break the sentiment of what a softball player from LSH is and stands for in this community. This team is lucky to have three seniors willing to do the little things to help the team and our goal is to give them a fun and enjoyable spring.
