Columbus Grove defeats McComb in district semis

FINDLAY — Columbus Grove advanced to the Division IV district finals in boys basketball with a 73-46 victory Tuesday night against McComb.

Grove held a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter that grew to 36-15 by halftime. CG connected on 26 of 55 shots from the field and was 11 of 26 on 3-point shots. Grove outrebounded McComb 24-16 and committed 10 turnovers to the Panthers’ eight.

Tayt Birnesser had 22 opints and Blake Reynolds (13), Grayson Flores (12) and Alex Schneider (11) also each scored in double digits for Columbus Grove.

The Bulldogs (18-5) will play Arlington, a 58-35 winner against Riverdale, at 7 p.m. Saturday at Findlay High School.

Special Olympics

The Allen County Sharks have made the Final Four in Division II of the State Special Olympics tournament.

The tournament is March 22 and 23 in Hilliard.



Bluffton drops

two in Florida

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Bluffton (2-4) fell 8-0 and 9-2 to St. John’s (4-0) from Minnesota. Jacob Latkofsky doubled for Bluffton in the 8-0 loss. Teammate Colin Gregory had two hits, including a two-run home run in the 9-2 defeat.

Beavers’ Reynolds

Bluffton — Bluffton’s Parker Reynolds received the first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week award for 2019.

Reynolds hit a homer and drove in four runs in Bluffton’s 10-3 win against Rivier on Sunday as the Beavers kicked off the season with a 2-0 mark. The junior slugged 1.125 with seven RBI and two runs in the first two games.
