Roundup: Minster advances to regionals in girls basketball

WAPAKONETA — Minster went from a 20-14 halftime margin to a 38-20 advantage after three quarters in its 45-27 Division IV girls high school basketball victory Saturday night against New Knoxville.

The Wildcats (24-1) will play Tri-Village at 6:15 p.m. Thursday at Butler High School in a regional semifinal. Janae Hoying had 16 points and Courtney Prengers scored eight against New Knoxville (18-8), which had Morgan Jurosic, Morgan Leffel and Avery Henschen each score six.

Division II

Napoleon 40, Wapakoneta 38

PAULDING — The Redskins (14-11) held a 28-27 edge heading into the last quarter, only to be outscored 13-10 in the final stanza. Katie Engle had 10 points and Makenzie Wilson scored nine for Wapak.

Indoor championships

GENEVA — Leipsic’s Carlee Siefker won the Division II-III girls triple jump with a distance of 34 feet, 7.5 inches and the long jump (17-06.75) at the OATCC Indoor State Championships.

Kalida’s Josh Verhoff won the D-II-III boys 200 in a state meet record time of 21.68 seconds. Fort Recovery’s Robby Lefevre (22.21) was third. Verhoff (7.02) and Lefevre (7.04) were second and third respectively behind winner Tre Tucker (6.84) of Cuyahoga Valley in the 60-meter dash.

Elida’s KeShawn Spivey won the D-II-III boys 60-meter hurdles in 8.35 seconds.

The Fort Recovery D-II-III 800-meter relay team of Lefevre, Jacob Acheson, Riley Pearson and Owen Moorman finished first in 1:31.33.

Van Wert’s Austin Clay finished third in the Division II-III boys shot put with a distance of 55-04. Northwestern’s Adam Riedinger won the event (59-07.75) Clay was also third in the weight throw (56-10.5) behind winner Tyler Arbaugh (68-10) of Van Buren.

Shawnee’s Christian Ford finished third in the Division I boys 200-meter dash in 21.66 seconds behind winner Zarik Brown (21.54) from Wayne. Ford was also fifth (6.97) in the 60-meter dash. First place went to LaCarr Trent (6.79) of Gahanna Lincoln.

Van Wert’s Jill Gemmer (37-07.75) and Kirsten Clay (37-07.5) finished third and fourth respectively and Ottawa-Glandorf’s Grace Hoffman (36-07.75) was ninth behind winner Abbie Antram (38-08.75) of Salem in the D-II-III girls shot put.

Gemmer (44.00.25) and Leipsic’s Ella Rigel (42-10) were second and third respectively, Clay (41-07.75) was sixth and Columbus Grove’s Kennedy Flores (41-06.25) was seventh behind first-place Kaila Barr (53-02) of Waverly in the weight throw.

Columbus Grove’s Alyssa Ellerbrock (11:24.98) was third in the girls D-II-III 3,200 behind winner Morgan Hicks (11:12.22) of Jonathan Alder.

Fort Recovery’s Drew Muhlenkamp (50.48) was fourth in the boys 400 behind first-place Zamir Youngblood (49.87).
