Area boys basketball teams secured district spots in sectional finals Friday night.

Division II

Van Wert 57,

Wauseon 53

FINDLAY — The Cougars (15-9) advanced to play Defiance at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ohio Northern University.

Defiance 42,

Wapakoneta 35

FINDLAY — Senior Adam Scott had 14 points for Wapak (14-10), finishing one point shy of tying Austin McCormick’s boys varsity career scoring mark of 975. Teammate Aaron Good scored 11. The Bulldogs improved to 14-10 on the season while Wapakoneta finished its season 14-10.

Division III

Coldwater 58,

Van Buren 44

ELIDA — The Cavaliers (15-9) will play Archbold, a 74-59 winner against Liberty Center, at 6:15 p.m. Thursday at Lima Senior. Cole Frilling had 25 points and 11 rebounds, Marcus Bruns scored 11 and Ben Wenning contributed nine oints and six rebounds for Coldwater.

Ottawa-Glandorf 80,

Spencerville 20

MILLER CITY — Senior Owen Hiegel went over the 1,000-point mark for his varsity career in Ottawa-Glandorf’s victory.

Hiegel topped the Titans (20-3) with 22 points and was backed by 17 from Ethan White and 10 from Nolan Unterbrink. They will tangle with Bluffton at 8 p.m. Thursday at Lima Senior.

Tyler Koenig’s five points guided the Bearcats (4-19).

Bluffton 58, Fairview 49

MILLER CITY — Bluffton used balanced scoring to upend Fairview in a Division III sectional-final win.

The Pirates (16-7) placed four players in double figures in the win: Luke Denecker with 17 points, 12 points each from Mason Soper and Jared Piercefield and 11 by Baylor Garmatter. The Pirates move on to play Ottawa-Glandorf at 8 p.m. Thursday at Lima Senior.

The Apaches end the season at 13-11.

Division IV

Crestview 57,

Temple Christian 22

VAN WERT — Crestview’s defense was the story as the Knights (22-1) held the Pioneers (9-15) to eight points in the opening period en route to a 16-8 lead after one quarter. They were paced bv 13 points from Carson Kreischer and 11 each by Javin Etzler and Derick Dealey. They will tangle with Delphos St. John’s at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Elida Fieldhouse.

Lima Central Catholic 29

VAN WERT — The Blue Jays (16-7) outscored the Thunderbirds (12-12) 13-6 in the fourth quarter. Jared Wurst had nine points and Isaac Fairchild scored seven for DSJ. Rossy Moore had eight points and Shaun Thomas and Jay Riepenhoff scored six each for LCC.

Riverdale 50, Leipsic 28

BLUFFTON — Riverdale (14-9) took a 16-3 edge after the first eight minutes and advanced to play Arlington, a 54-41 double overtime winner against Patrick Henry, at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at Findlay High School.

Dylan Schroeder was the high scorer for the Vikings (12-12) with 18 points and added 12 rebounds and three blocked shots.

St. Henry 64, Ada 47

COLDWATER — St. Henry opened up a 20-8 after one quarter.

The top-seeded Redskins (20-3) shot 25-of-49 from the floor for 51 percent in the win and were led by 27 points from Zach Niekamp, 17 by Ethan Thieman and 11 points and 15 rebounds by Caden Niekamp. The Redskins also outrebounded Ada 37-15. They will play Minster at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at Wapakoneta High School.

Leading the Bulldogs (6-17) were Phillip Coulson with 14 points and Connor Frazier with 11. Ada finished 18-of-43 from the floor for 41 percent.

Minster 64,

Fort Recovery 60

COLDWATER — Minster squeezed out a victory over Fort Recovery in a Division IV sectional final.

The Wildcats (16-7) were paced by 17 points from Jack Heitbrink and 16 by Mike Ketner. The Wildcats advance to take on St. Henry at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at Wapakoneta High School.

Leading the Indians (11-12) in scoring were Payton Jutte with 17 points, 16 from Clay Schmitz and 11 by Grant Knapke.

Kalida 41, Parkway 32

PAULDING — Kalida overcame a slow start and rallied with a 16-2 fourth period.

The Wildcats (18-5) fell behind 18-11 after eight minutes of action and were led by Trevor Lambert with 19 points. The Wildcats move on to tangle with Wayne Trace at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Elida Fieldhouse.

Guiding the Panthers (12-12) was Preston Sober with 10 points.

Wayne Trace 74, Ottoville 44

PAULDING — Wayne Trace used a strong 23-9 start in the first period.

The Raiders (19-5) move on to battle Kalida at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Elida Fieldhouse.

William Miller and Josh Thorbahn led the Big Green (17-6) with 12 points each.
