Boys basketball roundup: Whiteside scores 33 in Perry NWCC win

Merricle connects on 8 3-pointers in Wapakoneta victory

MARION — Jamal Whiteside erupted for 33 points to lead the way for Perry in a 69-37 Northwest Central Conference rout of Elgin in area boys basketball action Friday night.

Ryan Yingst added 14 for the Commodores (6-2, 3-0 NWCC). Perry took control with a 22-2 spread in the second period to secure a 41-13 halftime spread.

Cam Miller and Stormy Goddard each netted eight points for Elgin (2-5, 1-2 NWCC).

Lima Senior 60,

Toledo Central Catholic 57

TOLEDO — Lima Senior built a 42-32 lead after three quarters and held off a spirited rally by Toledo Central Catholic to secure a Three Rivers Athletic Conference victory.

Jaleel King’s 16 points led three Spartans (7-1, 4-0 TRAC) in double digits, with help from Josiah Fulcher’s 15 and Jamir Simpson’s 13.

Johnathan Burks led Toledo (3-2) with 14 points and Kendal Marshal and Fred Overtomn added nine.

Wapakoneta 69, Fort Recovery 43

WAPAKONETA — Wapakoneta started slow but picked up steam to down Fort Recovery in a non-league basketball contest.

Reed Merricle connected on 8 3-pointers, finishing with 24 points to lead the Redskins (5-1), along with 19 by Adam Scott and 13 from Aaron Good. Wapak led 11-10 after eight minutes of action.

Payton Jutte’s 17 points led the Indians, along with 13 from Clay Schmitz.

Temple Christian 55,

Waynesfield-Goshen 44

WAYNESFIELD — Temple Christian led 28-18 after the first half and finished up with a Northwest Central Conference triumph over Waynesfield-Goshen.

Leading the Pioneers were Brody Bowman with 19 points, Dakota Clay with 15 and Dawson Draper 11. Clay also had 11 rebounds.

For the Tigers, Layton Campbell was the high scorer with 19 points and Britton Elliott added 15.

Ayersville 51, Fort Jennings 37

AYERSVILLE — Ayersville grabbed a 13-10 lead after the first period and spent the rest of the way adding to its lead in a non-conference victory over Fort Jennings.

For the Musketeers, Eric Hoersten was the leading scorer with 12 points and Carson Kazee tacked on 10.

Wayne Trace 59, Miller City 49

MILLER CITY — The duo of Jace Vining and Nate Gerber totaled 39 points to lead Wayne Trace to a non-league triumph over Miller City.

Vining led all scorers for the Raiders (5-1) with 22 points and Gerber tacked on 17. Gerber led the rebounding effort with seven and Reid Miller assisted on six baskets.

Nick Gable’s 12 points led the Wildcats (3-3) and Austin Ruhe chipped in 10. Gable grabbed seven rebounds to lead that department.

Leipsic 55, Arcadia 38

LEIPSIC — Leipsic used a strong third-period effort – 18-7 – to secure a Blanchard Valley Conference triumph over Arcadia.

For the Vikings (3-3, 2-1 BVC), Dylan Schroeder led the way with 15 points, while Tyler Hiegel added 13 and Drew Liffick 10. Schroeder and Hiegel led on the boards with six each, while Schroeder chipped in four assists and Hiegel three steals.

The Redskins are 1-6, 0-3 BVC.

Pandora-Gilboa 43,

Arlington 39

ARLINGTON — Pandora-Gilboa took home a Blanchard Valley Conference victory over Arlington.

Leading the Rockets (5-2) were Jared Breece with 14 points and Riley Larcom with 11. Breece led the rebounding effort with seven and Larcom and Travis Maag added four each. Breece had four assists.

The Red Devils drop to 6-1.

Coldwater 61, St. Marys 45

COLDWATER — Coldwater used strong scoring balance to defeat St. Marys in non-league action.

The Cavaliers were paced by 17 points, 10 rebounds and five steals from Marcus Bruns, 15 points by Noah Miller and 12 points and seven boards from Cole Frilling.

For the Roughriders, Braeden Dunlap was top scorer with 15 points and Ethan Steger and Carter Ballweg added points each. Steger was the top rebounder with eight and Steger added seven.

St. Joseph Central Catholic 68,

Hardin Northern 47

FREMONT — Leading the Hardin Northern scoring effort with 10 points each by Hunter Joliff and Owen Wetherill. Joliff also led on the boards with four, while Wetherill grabbed three steals.

Upper Scioto Valley 64,

Ridgemont 44

MCGUFFEY — Upper Scioto Valley placed three players in double digits in grabbing a Northwest Central Conference victory over Ridgemont.

Wayne Lowery led the Rams with 19 points, along with 14 each by Wyatt Daniels and Brady Hipsher.

Landon Newland and Mason Stuck scored 14 points each for the Golden Gophers.

St. Henry 39, Fort Loramie 36

FORT LORAMIE — In a nip-and-tuck affair, St, Henry subdued Fort Loramie in a non-league encounter.

Pacing the visiting Redskins were Caden Niekamp’s 17 points and Zach Niekamp’s 12.

Leading the Pioneers were Brody Bowman with 19 points, Dakota Clay with 15 and Dawson Draper 11.

Kenton 54, Marion Harding 45

KENTON — Kenton outscored Marion Harding 24-18 to open up a tight game and grab a non-league triumph.

Jaron Sharp led the Wildcats with 15 points and Jacob Eversole added 12.
