DELPHOS — The Delphos School Board accepted the resignation of head varsity football coach Luke Taviano without discussion Monday night.

The Wildcats went 1-9 overall and 0-7 in the Northwest Conference in Taviano’s only season at the helm. Taviano came to Jefferson from Perry where in 2017 the Commodores went 6-5 (6-4 Northwest Central Conference), their first winning season in 11 years, and made the playoffs.

He was named Northwest Central Conference coach of the year and northwest district coach of the year.

The season before heading to Perry, Taviano had been an assistant at Jefferson.

Taviano, a 1997 Perry grad, played football at Perry and went to Tiffin to play football before knee surgery ended his career.

He was a student coach at Tiffin and went on to Bluffton University, where he was a student coach for the Beavers.

He also served as an assistant at Beavercreek, Spencerville and Perry.

Taviano could not be reached for comment.
