FAIRBORN — Jenny Nagle’s goal in the second overtime gave Cardinal Stritch a 2-1 victory against UNOH in the opening round of the NAIA women’s soccer tournament Saturday at Wright State’s Alumni Field.

Kate Agyemang’s goal off an assist by Iris Rabot gave the University of Northwestern Ohio a 1-0 first-half. Nicole Hawley tied it for Cardinal Stritch (16-3) in the second half. The Racers finish their season at 13-5-3.

5th at nationals

WINNECONNE, Wis. — Ian McVey earned All-America honors for the second consecutive season by finishing fifth out of 280 runners in 24:37 at the NCAA Division III Championships at Lake Breeze Golf Course.

McVey posted his second consecutive top-10 finish at the championships, as he was 10th in 24:37 as a junior in 2017.

The top 40 runners earn All-America honors. Dhruvil Patel of team champion North Central College (Illinois) was the race winner in 24:24.5.

Men’s basketball

Bluffton 80,

Pitt-Greensburg 77

MEADVILLE, Pa. — Bluffton (1-1) had four players score in double digits in the Greg Richards Tournament encounter.

Andrew Renner (Bath) led the Beavers with 21 points He also had seven assists, six rebounds, two steals and a block. Jamel Cosby and Dezman Brown (dropped in 16 points apiece for the victors. Brown also had four steals and Cosby contributed eight rebounds and dished out three assists. Isaah Taylor added 10 points, eight rebounds and two steals.

Ohio Northern 86,

Denison 66

ADA — All-American senior Ryan Bruns (Marion Local) finished with 33 points and eight rebounds for the Polar Bears , guiding at the ONU Sports Center.

With the win, the Polar Bears move to 2-0 overall while Denison falls to 0-2.

Austin Allemeier (Elida) and Ty Staten joined Bruns in double-digits with 12 and 10 points, respectively. The duo also racked up seven rebounds each.

Women’s basketball

Ohio Northern 74,

Allegheny 56

MEADVILLE. Pa. — Ohio Northern capped off an undefeated opening weekend with a victory against the host in the Allegheny Tip-Off Tournament, giving head women’s basketball coach Michele Durand her 300th victory in her 18-year tenure at ONU.

Durand now stands at 300-163 in her coaching career at Northern, which equates to a .648 winning percentage, making her the winningest coach in program history. She owns 421 career victories overall, which includes her time at ONU and an 11-year stint at nearby Division III Bluffton.

Ohio Northern had four players in double-figures, including 17 from Jaclyn Yankle off the bench. She also tied Emily Mescher (Marion Local) for the team lead in rebounds, grabbing a career-high eight.

Jenna Dirksen had 14 points and Abby Weeks and Emily Brock scored 11 each.

Rhodes College 56,

Bluffton 43

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Bluffton was outscored 19-7 in third quarter in a Rhodes Classic contest. Bluffton fell to 0-2 on the season, while the hosts moved to 2-0.

The leading scorer for Bluffton was Lj Olverson with eight. Brianna Gillig contributed seven points and nine rebounds. Tj Mills led the team with four steals.

Lawrence Tech 56, UNOH 53

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Fataya Larry had 11 points to lead the University of Northwestern Ohio.

Wrestling

Findlay Open

FINDLAY — Seth Transue (125 pounds) and Cash Thompson (184) each posted 3-2 records to lead Ohio Northern at the Findlay Open.

The Polar Bears were one of two NCAA Division III schools in the 21-team tournament, which consisted primarily of NCAA Division II schools. The tournament was not scored.
