Roundup: Place has 7 TDs in Van Wert victory against Elida

VAN WERT — Nate Place rushed for five touchdowns and threw a pair of TD passes as Van Wert defeated Elida 52-14 Friday night in a Western Buckeye League encounter.

Place rushed 12 times for 192 yards and completed 17 of 24 pass attempts for 272 yards. His touchdown throws went to Dru Johnson, who had seven catches for 88 yards, and Tanner Barnhart. The Cougars’ Jake Hilleary finished with 192 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. Elida’s Evan Unruh threw TD passes to Arzaiah Little and Devon Barnett.

The Cougars improved to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the WBL while the Bulldogs dropped to 2-5 on the season and 2-4 in the league.

Bluffton 7, Delphos Jefferson 0

DELPHOS – Bluffton held Jefferson to 133 yards of total offense in pacing the Pirates to a Northwest Conference triumph.

Leading Bluffton (2-5, 1-3 NWC) was Nate Schaadt with 19 rushes for 10 yards and Logan Rhodes added five carries for 39 yards and a 5-yard score with 4:48 left in the first period, the game’s only tally. Schaadt was 1-of-3 passing for 14 yards – the completion to Mason Ault. Rhodes also led the defense with eight tackles.

For Jefferson (1-6, 0-4 NWC), Collin Bailey was 13-of-21 passing for 80 yards and also led the running game with 11 carries for 30 yards. Conner Anspach was the leading pass-catcher with eight receptions for 36 yards.

St. Francis 46, Lima Senior 23

TOLEDO – St. Francis took a victory in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference matchup.

Scores by the Spartans (1-6, 0-4 TRAC) were on three touchdown passes from De’san Clair to Rashad Wallace (30 yards), 28 yards to Cecil Benton Jr. and a 24 yards to Amihr Curtis. Cameron completed 23 of 35 pass attempts for 299 yards. Lima Senior’s Jaleel King had 11 receptions for 143 yards.

St. Marys 60, Bath 7

BATH TOWNSHIP — St. Marys, ranked No. 1 in Division IV, outgained Bath 464-107 in a WBL matchup.

Braden Dunlap led the Roughriders (7-0, 6-0 WB) with 5-of-6 passing for 98 yards and four scores: 14 yards to Sean Perry, 41 yards to Ty Howell, 6 yards to Carson Fischbach, and 5 yards to Christian Triplett. He also had nine rushes for 164 yards and two scores: 13 and 10 yards. Triplett added a 10-yard scoring run, Perry a 6-yarder, Howell a 4-yarder and Dylan Trogdlon a 25-yarder. Lukas Walker led the defense with 11 tackles.

For the Wildcats (0-7, 0-6 WBL), Micah Cox scored the only touchdown, from 2 yards out, as he led the running game with 45 yards on five carries. Cyrus Burden went 11-of-17 passing for 62 yards and Ian Armentrout caught seven passes for 26 yards. Carter Pariapiano led the defense with eight tackles.

Kenton 38, Shawnee 35

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP – Kenton held off Shawnee in a WBL shootout.

After falling behind 14-0, Kenton’s Jaron Sharp led a comeback by going 24-of-40 passing for 211 yards and three scores: all three to Jayden Cornell – for two yards, 19 yards and 14 yards. He also carried 30 times for 177 yards and a pair of scores: both for a yard. Bryce Ellis added a 21-yard field goal as the Wildcats improved to 4-3, 4-2 in the WBL.

Leading Shawnee (2-5, 1-5 WBL), Johnny Caprella went 14-of-23 passing for 287 yards and five touchdowns: 10 yards (Will Roberson), 62 yards to Christian Ford and 13 yards to Ford, 30 yards and 36 yards to Matthew Sargent. Caprella totaled 16 rushes for 46 yards.

Allen East 50, Paulding 20

HARROD — Allen East outgained Paulding 483-186 in a NWC triumph.

Leading the way for the Mustangs (4-3, 3-1 NWC) were Tyler Clum, who went 19-of-24 passing for 263 yards and four scores: a 6-yard to Bryce Belcher, a 14-yarder to Belcherm and two 6-yarders to Cole Fletcher. Belcher added a 5-yard touchdown run as did Jacob Treglia (12 yards) and Hunter Paxson (38 yards). In all, Allen East ran for 187 yards. Paxson caught eight passes for 115 yards.

For the Panthers (2-5, 2-2 NWC), Jacob King ran in a pair of touchdowns for 1 and 3 yards. Peyton Beckman threw a 69-yard scoring pass to Hunter Kesler. Beckman was 13-of-22 passing for 145 yards.

Perry 62, Ridgemont 6

MOUNT VICTORY – Nylan Cannon’s three scoring runs paced Perry to a Northwest Central Conference victory.

Cannon led the Commodore (6-1, 4-0 NWCC) running game with 87 yards on eight carries, along with Shane Overly’s two carries for 16 yards and a score, Ryan Yingst’s two rushes for 52 yards and a score, Kevin Miller’s 2-yard scoring run; Devares Glenn’s four carries for 32 yards and a score and Camren Dalton’s 26-yard scoring. Louis Hoersten was 1-of-2 passing for 50 yards and added a 50-yard scoring run as the Commodores ran for 267 yards.

Ridgemont fell to 1-6, 0-4 NWCC.

LCC 42, Columbus East 6

COLUMBUS — Lima Central Catholic, ranked No. 5 in Division VI, improved to 7-0 on the season while Columbus East fell to 2-5. No other information was reported about this game at deadline.

Ottawa-Glandorf 9, Defiance 7

DEFIANCE — Josh Rosengarten kicked a 33-yard field goal with 56 seconds remaining to give Ottawa-Glandorf the WBL win.

Danny Rosales gave the Titans (3-4, 2-4 WBL) the lead in the second period with a 4-yard touchdown run. He ran 17 times for 68 yards. Jacob Balbaugh went 6-of-14 passing for 55 yards and Clayton Recker added 15 carries for 64 yards. William Kaufman caught four passes for 48 yards and Dylan Tippie four for 26 yards.

The Bulldogs’ (4-3, 3-3 WBL) lone score came from Aaron Cruz, who ran it in from 14 yards out in the third period.

Leipsic 56, Arcadia 13

ARCADIA — Leipsic’s Dylan Schroeder threw for four touchdown passes in pacing Leipsic past Arcadia in BVC encounter.

Schroeder was an efficient 6-of-7 passing for 175 yards and threw TD tosses to Hunter Casteel (47 yards), Tyler Hiegel (28 yards), Jaun Pena (15 yards) and Kaiden Rader (54 yards). Gavin Lomeli led a 472-yard rushing attack with nine carries for 104 yards and a score (18 yards), along with Pena’s 61-yard score, Cole Williamson’s 45-yard run and Gabe Jiminez’s 83-yard score (7 carries, 100 yards) for the Vikings (6-1, 4-1 BVC).

Hayden Rader caught a 55-yard pass from Tristain Martinez and Martinez added a 17-yard run for Arcadia (1-6, 1-4 BVC).

Crestview 51, Ada 14

ADA — Drew Kline accounted for four touchdowns – one passing and three rushing – in leading Crestview past Ada.

Kline was 10-of-15 passing for 160 yards and the score to Javin Etzler from two yards out. Kline’s TD runs were 9, 15 and 6 yards. Adding rushing scores were Jordan Perrott (19 yards), Brody Brecht (3 yards) and Caylib Pruett (5 yards) as Crestview improved to 6-1, 3-1 NWC.

For the Bulldogs (2-5, 1-3 NWC), Philip Coulson was 8-of-21 passing for 156 yards and a score: a 24-yarder to Brad Clum. Brandon Hull added a 3-yard scoring run.

Marion Local 49, Versailles 14

MARIA STEIN – Nate Bruns threw for three touchdown passes in Marion Local’s Midwest Athletic Conference win over Versailles.

The Flyers (7-0, 5-0 MAC), ranked No. 2 in D-VI, were led by Bruns’ 10-of-15 passing for 246 yards and those scores, all to Nick Tangeman for 60 yards, 67 yards and 13 yards. Nolan Habodasz ran 15 times for 148 yards and two scores: for 2 yards and 95 yards. As well, Bruns ran in from eight yards out and Isaac Eifert added a 2-yard scoring run.

For the Tigers (2-5, 1-4 MWC), Ryan Martin went 11-of-21 passing for 143 yards and a score from 29 yards to Andrew Demange. Martin also ran in a 31-yarder and Demange caught eight passes for 89 yards.

New Bremen 33, Parkway 13

NEW BREMEN — Nolan Bornhorst threw two touchdown passes to lead New Bremen over Parkway.

Bornhorst was 10-of-12 passing for the Cardinals(4-3, 2-3 MAC) for 155 yards and two scores: 61 yards to Grant Selby and 40 yards to Patrick Wells. Nicholas Wells threw a touchdown pass – 29 yards to Mitchell Hays and Bornhorst added 15 carries for 92 yards and a 38-yard score. Zach Bertke added a 14-yard scoring run.

For the Panthers (1-6, 1-4 MAC), Eli Rich tallied a 3-yard run and Nick Hawk added a 57-yarder. Hawk led the running game with 80 yards on eight carries and Rich was 4-of-13 passing for 46 yards.

Riverside 40, Upper Scioto Valley 0

MCGUFFEY — Riverside’s defense held Upper Scioto Valley to 129 yards of offense in a Northwest Central Conference shutout.

Quinn Sanders led the Rams (2-5, 1-3 NWCC) with an 11-of-24 passing night for 88 yards, as well as topped the ground game with 23 yards on 11 carries. Wyatt Daniels caught six passes for 60 yards.

Riverside improved to 4-3, 3-1 NWCC.

Elgin 54, Hardin Northern 43

DOLA – Elgin won a wild one over Hardin Northern in a NWCC clash.

Scoring for the Polar Bears (2-5, 1-3 NWCC) were Daylin Pees, a 6-yard pass from Owen Wetherell, a Pees 4-yard pass from Wetherell, a Wetherell 28-yard pass to Cody Wilmoth, a Brock Hipsher 3-yard run, a 12-yard Nick Adams run and a 17-yard pass from Wetherell to Frank McCoy.

Elgin moved to 3-4, 2-2 NWCC.

Anna 39, Fort Recovery 34

ANNA — Fort Recovery’s Clay Schmitz ran for a touchdown and threw TD passes to Robert LeFevre, who had five receptions for 93 yards, and Gavin Thobe. Derek Jutte had 94 yards rushing and a TD run on 16 carries and Riley Pearson returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown also for the Indians (4-3, 2-3 MAC). Anna improved to 5-2 on the season and 4-1 in the conference.

St. Henry 34, Minster 14

ST. HENRY — Zach Niekamp rushed 21 times for 192 yards and three touchdowns as the Redskins improved to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the MAC. Teammate K.J. Jacobs ran six times for 98 yards and a pair of TDs.

Alex Schmitmeyer ran for a score and Brendan Bornhorst had a TD on an 89-yard kickoff return for third-ranked D-VII Minster (5-2, 3-2 MAC).
