Roundup: Wapakoneta, Shawnee advance as teams in boys D-I golf


TIFFIN — Wapakoneta and Shawnee advanced as teams to districts with top five finishes Tuesday in the Division I boys golf sectional played at the par 72 Mohawk Golf & Country Club.

Team champ Lexington (324), Ashland (327), Wapakoneta (330), Shawnee (338) and Norwalk (349) all advanced.

Celina’s Lance Mawer and Elida’s Rley Creps shot 87 and 89 respectively to advance as individuals.

Drew Zwiebel (78), who tied for the third lowest score, Tim Bruns (82), who tied for seventh along with Shawnee’s Jake Hutchins and John Barker, Dylan Timmerman (83) and Jon Hefner (87) contributed to Wapak’s score.

Isaiah Johns (86) and Justin Altenbach (88) joined Hutchins and Barker in Shawnee’s team total.

Latrell Moore led Lima Senior with a 111.

The D-I district is scheduled to be played Thursday, Oct. 11, at Red Hawk Run in Findlay.

Cross Country

PCL meet

KALIDA — Columbus Grove’s Johnny Schmiedebusch, Jordan Bellman, Caleb Stechschulte and Breece Pingle finished first through fourth respectively at the Putnam County League Championship.

Ethan Chambers joined the four Grove runners in earning all-PCL honors by coming in fifth.

Earning second team all-PCL by finishing sixth through 10th respectively were Nolan German (Ottoville), Carson Closson (CG), Ryan Lucke (Kalida), Tanner Smith (CG) and Will Zeller (Kalida).

In the girls race, Alyssa Ellerbrock was first followed by Paige Hoersten (Ottoville), Peyton Henry (Leipsic) and Zoe Stechschulte, Emily Schumacher and Addison Schafer of Grove. All earned first team all-PCL honors.

Henry and teammate Claire Rigel and Kalida’s Trevor Vorst and Jack Zeller were recognized as scholar athletes.

No team championships were awarded due to a lack of complete teams.

Among those with enough runners to post team scores, in the boys competition Grove was first (17 points) with Kalida and Ottoville finishing tied for second (72 points each) and Leipsic (79) fourth. Grove only had enough runners for a team total in the girls event.

State rankings

Midwest Athletic Conference members St. Henry, New Bremen, Marion Local and Fort Recovery are ranked first through fourth respectively in the latest OHSVCA Division IV Coaches Poll. The Redskins received 39 first-place votes and 410 total points. The Cardinals (338) and Flyers (262) each received a first-place vote and Fort Recovery had 234 points. Leipsic (215) is fifth, Jackson Center (149) is sixth and New Knoxville (27), also from the MAC, is 15th.

Ottawa-Glandorf (526) is ranked second behind Huron (558) in D-III. The Titans received 18 first-place votes. MAC member Coldwater (87) is 12th.

Ottawa-Glandorf 3, Defiance 0

OTTAWA — The Titans won 25-22, 25-16, 25-15 to move to 17-1 overall and 6-0 in the Western Buckeye League.

Taylor Alt had 16 kills and 11 digs, Erica Annesser had nine kills, 11 digs and five aces, Claire Eiden had 11 digs and Kendra Ellerbrock had 19 assists for O-G.

St. Marys 3, Bath 0

The Roughriders won 25-18, 25-14, 25-17. Paige Williams had seven kills and Caitlyn Renner had 19 assists for Bath.

Allen East 3, Bluffton 1

BLUFFTON — The Mustangs won 25-14, 24-26, 25-23, 25-16.

Grace Howard had 12 kills, Kristin Whitley had eight kills, Summer McCloskey had 33 assists and three aces and Anamya Truex had eight blocks for Allen East.

Katie Prater had 12 kills and 12 digs, Kylie Stackhouse had 12 kills, Skyler Scoles had 13 assists, Ameri Siferd had 15 assists, 13 digs and three aces and Kylie Monday had 14 digs for Bluffton.

Celina 3, Wapakoneta 0

WAPAKONETA — The Bulldogs won 25-14, 25-18, 25-13.

Maddy Leubke had 10 kills, four blocks, Brooke Robbins had eight kills, Samantha Carlin had 23 assists and 10 digs and Zoe McNeilan had eight digs for Celina.

Emma Rex had eight digs, Renae Schulze had nine assists and Makenzie Wilson had nine kills for Wapak.

Shawnee 3, Kenton 1

KENTON — The Indians won 25-12, 25-9, 20-25, 25-14

Kelsey Fischbach had 42 assists and four aces, Kelly Armentrout had 15 kills and three aces, Amber Greeley had 17 kills and 12 blocks and Dayle Aldrich had 32 digs for Shawnee.

Van Wert 3, Elida 0

ELIDA — The Cougars won 25-11, 25-19, 25-21

Cheyenne Welch had seven7 kills, Evelyn Frueh had 12 assists and 13 digs, Kylie Vorhees had six kills, McKenzie Miller had 18 digs and Nevaeh Vorhees had 12 assists for the Bulldogs.

Temple Christian 1

FORT JENNINGS — Adam Noriega had two goals. Teammates Ian Rucker and Nolan Grote each had one and Temple Christian’s Dakota Clay had a tally. Fort Jennings moved to 2-10-2 while Temple Christian fell to 5-5-3.

St. Francis 16, Lima Senior 1

LIMA — Noah Phillips had the Spartans’ goal.

Van Buren 4, Bluffton 2

BLUFFTON — Jonathan Schriner and Asher Antrim each had a goal for the host Pirates on assists by Luke Young.

Elida 4, Kenton 1

Jency Jenkins had three goals and teammate Cienna Kuhn had one tally.

Miller City 4, Fort Jennings 0

MILLER CITY — Madison Ellerbrock had three goals and Kayleen Maas scored one. Natalie Koenig made seven saves in goal to get the shutout.

Shawnee 1, Bath 1

BATH TOWNSHIP Bath’s Abbie Dackin and Shawnee’s Tessa Jordan each had a goal.

Girls tennis

LCC 3, Van Wert 2

VAN WERT — Singles players Olivia Kesner and Morgan Chaney and the doubles team of Anna Janowski and Madie Brinkman won for Lima Central Catholic.

Singles player Jada Buckner and the doubles team of Emma Rutkowski and Lizzie Rutkowski won for Van Wert.
