DEFIANCE — St. Marys and Spencerville were crowned Western Buckeye League and Northwest Conference champions respectively in boys high school golf following tournaments held Thursday.
The Roughriders followed their 9-0 dual recorded with the tournament title at the par 71 Eagle Rock Golf Club.
St. Marys finished with a 343 tournament total followed by Shawnee (347), Defiance (354), Ottawa-Glandorf (356), Wapakoneta (363), Kenton (366), Van Wert (378), Elida (380), Celina (392) and Bath (396).
St. Marys’ Austin Boley defeated Bath’s Britton Hall in a three-hole playoff to determine the medalist after each shot 79. Kenton’s Rocco Longbrake was third with an 82.
Reese Sweigart (85), Clay Quellhorst (89) and Nathan Kuffner (90) also contributed to St. Marys’ winning team total.
Celina’s Lance Mawer (86), Defiance’s Will Lammers (84), Elida’s Hunter Jolliff (93), O-G’s Austin Radcliff (85), Shawnee’s Jake Hutchins and John Barker (84 each), Van Wert’s Gavin Flickinger (90) and Wapak’s Drew Zwiebel (83) had the low rounds for their respective schools.
Following St. Marys in the overall season team standings were Shawnee (17 points), Ottawa-Glandorf (15), Wapakoneta and Defiance (14 each), Kenton (10), Elida and Van Wert (7 each), Celina (4) and Bath (2).
Zwiebel earned player of the year honors by accumulating the most points during the season.
Also earning all-league honors were Hall, Boley, Lammers, Radcliff, Longbrake, Mawer, Hutchins, Sweigart, Quellhorst, Shawnee’s Justin Altenbach, O-G’s Alex Elleerbrock and Defiance’s Anthony Keehn.
Spencerville won the Northwest Conference championship played at the par 72 Auglaize Golf Club with a team total score of 315. The first-place tournament finish also clinched the overall 2018 conference golf championship for the Bearcats.
Paulding (343) edged out Lincolnview (344) by one shot for the runner-up finish in the tournament. Other tournament team totals were Bluffton (353), Delphos Jefferson (356), Columbus Grove (357), Allen East (373), Crestview (409) and Ada (409).
Spencerville’s Ethan Harmon was the tournament medalist with a 74. Runner-up medalist honors went to Gavin Harmon (Spencerville), Logan Gallmeier, (Delphos Jefferson), and Reece Farmer (Lincolnview), who each shot 78.
The tournament finish for each school was combined with their regular season finish to determine the final conference standings. Spencerville, which also won the regular season title, took first place with 18 points. Paulding and Lincolnview tied for second with 15 points each. The other schools’ order of conference finish were Bluffton (12), Columbus Grove (9), Delphos Jefferson (8), Allen East (7) and Crestview and Ada (3) (3 each).
The NWC also presented its All-Conference Awards.
The coaches voted Spencerville’s Mike Harmon as Coach of the Year. Gavin Harmon oearned Golfer of the Year honors by virtue of points earned during each regular season match and the season-ending tournament. Harmon was joined on the NWC First Team by Ethan Harmon, Gallmeier, Ryan Moody (Lincolnview), Farmer, Jacob Oglesbee (Columbus Grove) and Braxton Scalf (Delphos Jefferson).
Making the second team were, Alex Gallman (Spencerville), Carter Frey (Allen East), Cole Koenig (Bluffton), Kolson Egnor (Paulding), Fletcher Cook (Paulding) and Drake Mertz (Spencerville)
Earning honorable mention were Drew Wilson (Bluffton), Kenny Lovett (Bluffton), Hunter Kauser (Paulding), Colton Lautzenheiser (Crestview), Braden Evans (Lincolnview), Jaden Youtsey (Lincolnview), Owen Macke (Columbus Grove), Nick Phillips (Allen East), Zach Miller (Allen East), Cole Heller (Paulding), Chad Carper (Paulding) and Ethan Hull (Ada).

OTTAWA — Medalist Luke Lammers (40), Boyd Vance III (43), Stevan Stechschulte (46) and TJ Michel (48) combined for the winning score at par 36 Pike Run Golf Club. Carter Schnipke led Ottoville with a 43.

SIDNEY — Co-medalist Joseph Magoto (38), Logan Lazier (41), Grant Koenig (42) and Grant Voisar (43) combined for the winning score at Shelby Oaks Golf Club. Botkins’ Nick Fischio shared co-medalist honors with a 38.
