HARRISONBURG, Va. — The Bluffton High School graduates have been named to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Academic Team while playing for Eastern Mennonite University.
Soccer players David and Douglas Nester and cross country athlete Elizabeth Nisly met the requirement of at least a 3.25 grade point average for the year to receive considertation.
UNOH wins invitational
The University of Northwestern Ohiohad four players finish in the top seven as the Racers won the UNOH Fall Invitational at Hidden Creek Golf Club in Lima.
Caitriona Griffin ( shot a 71 in Tuesday’s final round to finish second overall with a 149 while Natalia Quintero was fourth at 155, Devaki Ganesh finished sixth at 159 and Hastha Rajendran tied for seventh at 161.
“Caitriona had a great tournament,” UNOH head coach Dawn West said. “We’re looking forward to her leadership on the course for them to follow and she did that today by carding five birdies in her round, staying calm and steady. She really kept us in the round today.”
“I’m very proud of how both teams played in our first tournament and host event of the season,” added West. “We are a very young team with one senior, one junior, one sophomore and two freshmen rounding out our top five. So for them to play good competitive golf early on is very exciting for us.”
UNOH finished with a team total of 624, five shot better than runner-up Indiana Tech in the seven-team event. Indiana Tech’s Ceclilia Heck was medalist with a 147.
Northwestern Ohio returns to action September 4-5 at the SCAD Atlanta Fall Invitational.
