PAULDING - Paulding head football coach Tyler Arend has 12 lettermen back from the 2017 gridiron season.
This crew of Panthers will be led by fourth-year senior Ethan Matty (6-2, 195) who will anchor the offensive line and the linebacking corps and fourth-year senior tailback and linebacker Jacob Eblin (6-3, 200).
Veteran quarterback Jacob Deisler (5-9, 182, junior) is back under center and he has some experienced weapons around him, such as running back Alex Riethman (5-11, 170, senior), Hunter Kesler (6-2, 170, senior wide receiver), wide receiver Drew Lumpkins (5-9, 147, senior), tight end Riley Coil (6-2, 180, junior) and fullback Jacob King (5-10, 225, junior).
Brock Schooley (6-3, 217, senior) will be a key returnee up front, as is junior Cole Mabis (6-0, 196) and Adrian Simonin (6-2, 200, senior).
With only 33 players on the roster - including a mere nine seniors - depth will be a major factor for Coach Arend and his coaching staff of six assistants.
Many of the same names will be featured on the defensive side of the ball including Riethman, King, Simonin and Schooley up front; Kesler, Lumpkins and Deisler in the secondary; and linebackers Coil, Mabis, Eblin and Matty.
As well, sophomore veteran Fernando Garcia (5-7, 170) will also be called upon as a running back and linebacker.
Other starting possibilities include junior Braeden Pease (6-6, 255) on both lines, senior Cory Adams (6-4, 230) up front, senior Juwan Skiffer (5-9, 255), also up front and sophomore Will Bulka (6-1, 244).
Arend will depend on other newcomers in 2018, such as kicker and punter Evan Edwards (5-8, 155, junior), Owen Carnahan (6-4, 142, junior) at wide receiver, Brandon Jackson (5-8, 138, junior) outside, lineman Nolan Johanns (6-3, 243, sophomore), sophomore Adrian Manz (5-8, 130) at wide receiver, sophomore receiver/defensive back Caleb Manz (6-2, 150), defensive back Payton Beckman (6-3, 173, sophomore) and sophomore Quintin Gonzalez (6-1, 191) at offensive line and linebacker.
