Roundup: Two from Lima Striders earn All-American honors

DES MOINES, Iowa — Tayma Jmiai and Briana Wright of the C2K Lima Striders earned All-American honors by finishing in the top eight in events at the AAU Junior Olympic Games.

Jmiai finished second in the 11-year-old girls 3,000 meters Tuesday in 11 minutes, 18.4 seconds. Wright finished seventh in the 17-18 women’s discus with a throw of 38.73 meters.

Lima-Allen County Golf Hall of Fame accepting nominations

Forms to nominate someone for the Lima-Allen County Golf Hall of Fame are available at all area golf courses.

The deadline for nominations is Sept. 9. Forms should be turned in at an area golf course. This year’s honorees will be recognized at a banquet on Oct. 6 at the Shawnee Country Club.

Locos’ game postponed

LIMA — The Locos’ Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League postseason play-in game against Saginaw was postponed Tuesday to 7:05 tonight at Simmons Field.

The game’s winner will travel to St. Clair for the first game of a best-of-three series.

Women’s match play golf begins Thursday

LIMA — Qualifying for the 75th annual Lima Area Women’s Match Play Tournament will be held Thursday beginning at 9 a.m. at Springbrook Golf Club.

The field this year consists of four players in the championship flight, 12 in the Open Flight (eight in the First Flight, four in the Second Flight) and four in the Senior Flight. Tee times can be found on 2C.

Qualifying scores will be used for seedings. The Championship, Senior and Second flight matches begin Saturday afternoon at Hidden Creek Golf Club. For those who qualify in the First Flight, those matches will begin Friday morning at The Oaks Golf Club. Championship matches are scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Shawnee Country Club.

Bowen receives D-III recognition

BLUFFTON — Bluffton University’s Tori Bowen, an Elida graduate, has been named by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) an All-Academic and Scholar of the Year.

The Bluffton women were also recognized as a team for their outstanding work in the classroom by achieving a 3.28 GPA.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.3 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

• Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship

• Finished the regular season ranked in the national top 50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 35 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.

Zickafoose receives All-America selection

BLUFFTON — Bluffton University senior Isaac Zickafoose has been named a preseason Second Team All-America selection by A two-time All-Region selection, Zickafoose was the HCAC Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2016.

Zickafoose earned a third straight First Team All-Heartland Conference honor last season. The defensive end was second on the team with 51 tackles, 12.0 yards TFL’s and 5.0 sacks. His six quarterback hurries tied Ryan Aelker for first on Bluffton’s single-season list.

Delphos St. John’s fall ticket sales

DELPHOS — St. John’s football, volleyball and soccer season tickets will be sold in the High School office only at the following times:

From 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7 and Wednesday Aug. 8.

Prices are:

$35 for football reserve seat season ticket (five home games). Those interested should contact the office at 419-692-5371, ext. 1137.

$28 for football general admission season ticket.

$18 for football student season ticket.

$45 for adult varsity volleyball pass (10 home games).

$15 for junior high volleyball pass (eight home games).

$25 for soccer family pass (six home games).

Meet the Team night at Crestview

CONVOY — The Crestview Athletic Department will conduct its annual Meet the Team night at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6 in the high school gym. All seventh through 12 grade fall student-athletes and parents are to attend.

Meet the Team night will give the community the first opportunity to get a look at the 2018 edition of the fall sports’ squads and the high school marching band. A general information session will begin the evening for all student-athletes, parents, and community members. During this session, the players and coaches of each team will be introduced.

After the general session, individual meetings with each teams’ fall coaches will occur.

Knight Pride Booster Club memberships will be available during this event and the club’s monthly meeting will occur after individual team meetings in the study hall at approximately 7:30 p.m. Each team is required to have a minimum of two parent representatives attend KPC meetings. The Knight Pride Club supports Crestview athletics through the purchase of team uniforms, facility upgrades, and needed equipment.

All-Sports Passes will be on sale following the general session and are good for all home-sporting events (excluding invitational and tournament action) during the fall and winter sports seasons. The cost is $100 for adults and $50 per student with family pricing available. Football reserved seats will be on sale for $30 per seat. Gate prices will be $6 for varsity football games; $5 adults, $4 students for high school soccer and volleyball matches and $4 adults and $3 students for entry into all middle school athletic events. Student varsity football season tickets will be $15.

Golden Buckeye card passes will also be available for $10 and are good for use at all athletic events with the exception of varsity football and varsity boys’ basketball.

Individual presale football tickets ($5 adult, $4 students) can be purchased from 7:45 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. Fridays in the athletic office. All season tickets will continue to be on sale in the athletic office.
