Allen County Archers
The Allen County Archers, at the corner of state Route 117 and Defiance Trail, have monthly shoots planned. A traditional shoot is held the third Saturday of every month from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. For details, call Neil Wallace at 567-825-7109.
There will also be 30 3-D shoots the first Saturday and Sunday each month through September. These are open to all.

A youth 3-on-3 outdoor basketball tournament, presented by Citizens Federal Savings and Loan, will be played from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 28, and from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, July 29, to benefit Union Station of Logan County. Divisions will be based upon the grade the boy or girl player entering this fall/ Registration is open and will continue until July 8 unless brackets fill sooner. NFL Flag Football will be held for youth ages 5-7. There’s one practice each week plus one game on Saturdays. Players received reversible NFL flag jerseys. Deadline to register is Aug. 26. Cost is $35 for members and $70 for others.
The Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce will be holding its 50th annual classic at Hidden Creek and Colonial Golf Clubs with registration beginning at 8 a.m. Aug. 1. Cost is $85 for chamber members or $340 for a foursome or $95 for non members and $380 for a foursome.
The 75th annual Lima Area Women’s Match Play Tournament will be contested Aug. 2-5. The starting times will stay the same with start times set for 9 a.m. Thursday and Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. This year’s golf courses include: Springbrook GC, The Oaks GC, Hidden Creek GC, and Shawnee CC. Participants do not need a USGA handicap to compete and officials will endeavor to fulfill pairing requests for the qualifying round. The format has remained the same; one round of qualifying play followed by match play. Entry deadline is July 29. Women ages 55 and older may declare for the Senior Division. Also, any player in the Open flight shooting a score better than a player in the Championship only flight will still be seeded in the Open flight. Players declaring Championship Only flight will be seeded in the Championship flight no matter their qualifying score. The Allen County Horseshoe Pitchers, located at 1815 C St., have openings in leagues and doubles. Open doubles begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturdays. Corn Hole leagues are forming. The Lima YMCA is holding open pickleball play from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday (appointment only). The Summerfest 1-K will be held at noon, Saturday, July 21, and the route is a beeline from Parkview on South Main Street all the way out to Southgate Lanes bowling alley. There’s a $20 registration fee and all proceeds go to Bluffton Family Recreation.
The annual Run For The Kids 5K will be held Saturday, July 21, at Huggy Bear Campground. Cost is only $15 which includes a dri-fit shirt and finisher medal (if pre-registered by July 16th) or $10 with no shirt. Race day registration begins at 9 a.m. with no shirt guarantee. A fundraiser 5K for the Allen County D.A.R.E. program will be ran during the National Night Out event at 7 p.m. Aug. 7. The 5K is being jointly hosted by our office and Anytime Fitness of Lima. The Kenton High School Boys and Girls Tennis teams are hosting a tennis tournament July 28-29 at the Kenton High School tennis courts. This is a fundraiser for new equipment. Matches begin at 9 a.m. both days, with a guarantee to play at least two matches in each event. On Saturday July 28, middle school singles, high school singles, and Adult singles will be played. On Sunday July 29: playing will be elementary singles, high school doubles, and adult doubles. Fee is $10 per person, per event. Awards will be given. Registrations are due by July 25th.
