Allen County Archers

The Allen County Archers, at the corner of state Route 117 and Defiance Trail, have monthly shoots planned. A traditional shoot is held the third Saturday of every month from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. For details, call Neil Wallace at 567-825-7109.

There will also be 30 3-D shoots the first Saturday and Sunday each month through September. These are open to all.

Columbus Grove

Tickets are on sale for a bus trip to the Cincinnati Reds against San Francisco on Aug. 18 to benefit the Flag City Honor. The cost is $75 and must be paid in full by July 18. The Payne (Ohio) Ball Association will be sponsoring a pair of all-star tournaments from July 6-8 in Payne. Each team is guaranteed a minimum of three games (barring weather issues) and may play one pool play game Thursday, July 5, if desired. A coach pitch baseball tournament will be held for boys ages eight and under as of Aug. 31. Also, a coach-pitch softball tournament will be held for girls ages eight and under as of Dec. 31. A youth 3-on-3 outdoor basketball tournament, presented by Citizens Federal Savings and Loan, will be played from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 28, and from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, July 29, to benefit Union Station of Logan County. Divisions will be based upon the grade the boy or girl player entering this fall/ Registration is open and will continue until July 8 unless brackets fill sooner. The Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce will be holding its 50th annual classic at Hidden Creek and Colonial Golf Clubs with registration beginning at 8 a.m. Aug. 1. Cost is $85 for chamber members or $340 for a foursome or $95 for non members and $380 for a foursome.


The 75th annual Lima Area Women’s Match Play Tournament will be contested Aug. 2-5. The starting times will stay the same with start times set for 9 a.m. Thursday and Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. This year’s golf courses include: Springbrook GC, The Oaks GC, Hidden Creek GC, and Shawnee CC. Participants do not need a USGA handicap to compete and officials will endeavor to fulfill pairing requests for the qualifying round. The format has remained the same; one round of qualifying play followed by match play. Entry deadline is July 29. Women ages 55 and older may declare for the Senior Division. Also, any player in the Open flight shooting a score better than a player in the Championship only flight will still be seeded in the Open flight. Players declaring Championship Only flight will be seeded in the Championship flight no matter their qualifying score. The Lima YMCA will be playing host to the Tee Up for Kids golf outing at Hidden Creek Golf Course beginning at noon July 13. The fee for a team of four is $280 and will benefit YMCA Scholarship Program for kids. Individuals must register by July 9.



The Allen County Horseshoe Pitchers, located at 1815 C St., have openings in leagues and doubles. Open doubles begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturdays. Corn Hole leagues are forming. The Lima YMCA is holding open pickleball play from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday (appointment only). The annual Run For The Kids 5K will be held Saturday, July 21, at Huggy Bear Campground. The first Mark Gibson Memorial softball tournament will be held July 21-22 in Cairo. Entry fee will be $200 per team, with 20manrosters. Each team is guaranteed four games.
