ADA — A familiar face to Ada fans is taking over the football head coaching duties after Shawn Christopher was approved by the Ada School Board of Education for the position Thursday night.
Christopher, a 2004 Ada graduate, has served as an assistant coach for the Bulldogs the last 10 years.
“I am very excited about this opportunity,” said Christopher who spent the last five seasons as the defensive coordinator.
Even though it is his first head coaching job, Christopher said he is ready for the challenge and added that being an assistant under Mike Fell and Bob Olwin was a tremendous benefit.
“I have been fortunate enough to be an assistant under two tremendous head coaches,” Christopher said. “One thing Mike (Fell) taught me was to create a great culture. Bob made me the defensive coordinator and he also let me do administrative duties so I learned that aspect of the job.”
Christopher said he hopes to continue the winning tradition that Ada has had in the last 15 years.
“I don’t feel any great pressure and I see it as an opportunity to live up to the success we have and look to continue it and hopefully make it better.”
Ada, which made the playoffs last year, finished with a 7-4 mark. Under Olwin, who retired after last season, the Bulldogs went 34-22.
